Costco Help

Scout has become quite the awesome helper lately.  Mom 2 has really helped him understand what I do every day, and he has been contributing so much more.  Like today at Costco, I ran to get one last thing, and when I came back, he had unloaded all of the groceries onto the belt.  I didn’t ask him to, he just saw where something needed to be done, and did it.  I’m loving my boy who is turning into a man!

Toys R Us

This picture might help explain why I sometimes try to run errands by myself.  Somehow kids slow down everything.  And when it’s Toys R Us, we are moving at a snail’s pace.

Holes

Dash has informed me that out of all four of his exact same DayDays, he likes the one with the holes in it the best.  Because he likes to put his fingers in the holes to keep them warm.

Mom 2

Scout has gotten himself in a bit of trouble lately.  His disrespect towards me, has been off the charts lately.  So in an effort teach him what I do for him every day, and for him to appreciate me…Micah has been making him be “Mom 2″.  Basically, he gets all mom responsibilities without any of my authority.  To say it has been an uphill battle is an understatement.
Tonight, he had the entire kitchen after Sunday dinner.

Micah patiently outlined everything for him to do.  So after he first cleared all of the plates, then Micah told him it was time to rinse them.  I kid you not, it took Scout (with Micah’s instructions) 2 1/2 hours to clean the kitchen.  A lot of the time, Scout had a really bad attitude and complained the whole time.  And then after calm instructions from Micah (his patience was amazing — and well beyond what I would have been able to muster up), Scout turned a corner. His attitude changed, and I heard everything out of the kitchen change — the water was on, the garbage disposal ran, and I could hear things being put away.
Scout got the kitchen totally clean, after a steak dinner was eaten by 9 people.
And the kicker…..
Scout came to me afterwards, and said, “Mom, I finally realize what you do every single day for us.  Thank you.”
Then Micah chimed in with, “She does that for you many times every day.  And you don’t realize yet, but after the next three weeks of being grounded…you’ll know.”
Mom 2….thank you.
Sweet husband…..thank you even more!

Waiting

When I put Pips down for her nap after church, her “night night” wasn’t in her bed.
I knew we had a problem!
So I told her to wait there, while I scoured the house for it.

When I returned, I found her waiting patiently like this!
When I told her I never found her blanket, she said, “Then I not go to sleep.”
I zipped her up and told her, “try”.
(Update: blanket was found later that afternoon in Daddy’s closet.)

Groupie

img_1874-2016-05-22-at-10-34-13.jpg
BYU’s Vocal Point came to our ward today to sing.  It was amazing.  I think they thought it was equally amazing.  Because when they started, Pippi stood on the pew, and started singing with them.  But since she didn’t know the words, she sang “Let it Go”.  everyone was cracking up.  But the real comedy came when she was flirting with them all throughout Sacrament Meeting.  She would look over and make eyes at them.  then she would walk slowly over to them.  They were classic, and were totally buying into her advances, and were waving at her, and blowing her kisses.  Everyone was cracking up.  But afterwards, when I took their groupie over to them for a group picture, she instantly started playing “hard to get”.
I’m not sure how this girl knows how to flirt like a pro at this young age, but I am sure that she was flirting.

“I’m Sorry…”

img_1881-2016-05-22-at-19-22-37.jpg
This girl is priceless.
Every time she gets in trouble, and has to apologize, she adds her own little flare.
And it goes like this, “I’m sorry…poo poo”.
Most of the time, she says it loud and proud.
But then there are those times when she really knows she is in big trouble.  Those times, she says “I’m sorry” loud, and then walks away with a whispering “poo poo”.
This girl is way beyond her years in teasing and naughtiness.
And you can only imagine what the other kids think — they crack up at her, thus adding fuel to the fire!

The Fair ‘16

We saw the Ferris Wheel go up, and we knew it was going to be a good weekend!

We invited the Nichols, Seastrands, and Thackers over to hang in the cul-de-sac, then head to the fair, and finish up the night with swimming.
It was a really fun day with only one hiccup.
But that hiccup was major.
Scout watched every minute of the festivities from his window.  He got in major trouble last night, and got grounded.  Good thing I have Micah to back me, because I may have had him miss part of the day, but get to come out later.  But Micah said this is how they learn, and told Scout his punishment stands.  It killed me, but I agreed with Micah completely.
Micah and I were both amazed at what a good attitude Scout had during his punishment.  He didn’t complain, or whine.  He just watched from his window and yelled things out every once in a while, like “good job on that jump Dash” or “Pippi is in the street”.

Micah finally allowed him to come down for dinner, but it was only adults inside while the kids swam.  He watched, ate really slowly, and then happily went right back to his room.

Navy’s First Grade Book

This morning, Navy woke me up so we could go through her first grade memory book together.  It was a far cry from Scout’s first grade chicken scratch and scribbling.  She colored in the lines, wrote creative things, and did me proud!  It was like a little adventure thumbing through her pages.  My favorite parts were her tributes to everyone in her family, and these little gems that were tucked away in her book:

Jesus and the Golden Plates!
Can’t be bummed when she writes “That’s why we try to be our best” about Jesus.
Navy — you are as rad as they come!

Quiet Morning With Navy

Navy and I had an hour or two by ourselves this morning.  It was like a slice of Heaven.  We went through her memory book, we talked and laughed, and we discussed our day.
And then she fluttered all around the room doing her thing.

She finished up an art project she started the night before.

And climbed the bookshelf to find her next read.
