Can you believe that I have had this boy in my life for five years?
Lucky me.
-
I told him he got to plan out the day with some of his favorites.
Of course swimming was at the top of his list.
(But I have to write down his initial comment — it was, “I think we are going to go to Denny’s for breakfast, and Sushilicious for lunch and that place we got my cast off for dinner…oh yeah Riptide.” He is definitely my son! A good new restaurant for every meal!)
So, in honor of the swimming part, I got these two in their suits (as they both show me that Scout is now 5), and we headed over to the cool new water park in San Clemente.
We had it all to ourselves.
No wonder, because it was pretty chilly out.
But in the semi-warmed water, Scout was having a blast.
It took Icka a little longer to get into it, but she finally got there when she saw how much fun Scout was having.
And then they were having a little too much fun.
Whoops!
I finally yanked my kids when I saw this nasty snot rocket.
The cold finally set in, noses were running, and Navy was starting to complain — so we headed out after about 45 minutes.
Just when everyone wanted to be carried — Bella was there to save the day.
As soon as we got home, the kids jumped into the hot tub — where there was some real warm water!
And Dash looked on from his swing.
-
After swimming, we did hit up one of his eating destinations.
His favorite — Sushilicious!
And we met some hot babes for the celebration.
But Micah met up with the hottest babe of all.
These two are pretty funny together.
I love that after Icka saw Nonnie hugging Micah for a picture, she posed for one of her own!
We opened presents at the table, and Scout got the best present from Nonnie — a bow and arrow called the “Scout”.
So of course we had to stop on our way home to try it out.
Look at his audience!
Then Katniss from the Hunger Games had to get up to try it out.
Looks like this is just the poser “Fatniss”!
-
Happy Birthday to one of the loves of my life.
Bree finally has her baby, and my kids just got another cousin.
Navy was so excited to be near her — maybe a little too excited at times!
Alexa is still really little (3 weeks) and Navy is used to Dash who is 6 months, so there were a lot of protecting hands around the baby when Icka was near.
Understandably.
Great Grandma for a fourth time!
She is sweet, teeny, healthy and darling!
We are SO excited this day finally arrived.
Scout was hyped to have a Star Wars party. So in an effort to keep it simple, we did a “drive-in theater” and showed the movie.
Simple, right?
More like chaotic!
First off — Nonnie got Scout this sweet Star Wars get up.
Scout was so stoked on it, and didn’t take it off the entire night.
Then, in honor of movie theaters everywhere — we stocked the snack bar with movie candy and popcorn.
When the kids all arrived, they all got their own car.
And with a bunch of varieties of duct tape, they decorated it any way they wanted.
Then it was pizza time.
unless you are the birthday boy who has an aversion to kid food.
So then you have bread sticks!
Once everyone was settled, Scout opened some gifts.
Once that part of the party was over, I realized that it was much too light for us to project a movie.
Thank goodness Micah is handy, because he just moved the whole set up into the garage.
But while he was in the process (for about 20 minutes) I had to kill a bit of time.
So Scout handed out his gifts to everyone — blow up light sabers and galaxy wraps (black and white blankets for when it got cold).
Both were a total hit!
But as the party got completely out of control because everyone was attacking each other, I made them get back in their cars and watch the two person Jedi fight-offs.
There were two rules.
1. No hitting each other — only sword to sword.
2. No hitting me!
The kids were loving this stuff, as I tried to buy time.
When Scout was called up, I called his opponent out to be Caden.
I announced to the crowd that Scout probably didn’t have a shot because Cade has a real six pack!
I just wanted everyone to know that Cade was a very fierce competitor that Scout was taking on!
See for yourself!
But Scout took the win.
(Doesn’t every birthday boy?)
In the meantime, teething Dash took a ride on Grandma’s hip.
When the party was finally moved into the garage, we got the movie up and running.
The popcorn was popping….
and the candy was the favorite of everyone. Especially these darling light sabers that Missy brought.
She made me look good, because they were definitely the favorite candy of the night.
-
I’ll admit that I had visions of this party going much smoother. It isn’t like it wasn’t successful. In fact, I think it was a huge success. But the success came from 13 renegade running around and attacking each other with their light sabers. I had to herd them back to their cars to watch the movie about four times. Not that I cared that they weren’t watching the movie, but with all of that sugar and no parents around — they were WILD! So after about 10 minutes of fighting, I would send them back. And it happened over and over again. Oh well. All I know is that Scout thought it was the greatest time ever. And quite honestly, wasn’t that what I wanted?!
You bet.
-
At the very end of the night, I think Chloe was the culprit of getting into the duct tape and decorating Icka.
It was all fun and games until that pretty little outfit had to be ripped off!
-
Although the party was a little humiliating when it comes to my original idea — I had three boys come up to me the next day at church and say it was the funnest party they have been to. So on that note — maybe I will keep my party planning up.
These two have been at it lately. Tattling, fighting and teasing are the personalities du jour — every single day!
Good thing I get little moments of calm — like when they are both in the bath chilaxing as they watch PBS.
Because if it wasn’t for these times — who knows what I would do!
It blows my mind that this boy is already half a year old. It seems like yesterday I had him. I am literally in shock. That being said, this boy grows more perfect with age. Talk about a baby who only cries if he is hungry! I am one lucky Mom to have #3 be such an angel.
His latest stuff is pretty exciting.
-
He currently has his first tooth breaking through, and I feel a bump for his second one. His first tooth is his front, bottom left tooth, and he has been a little trooper. Not much crying — especially after a little squirt of Tylenol.
-
This boy is a little copy cat. If I cough, it might takes him a second, but he then spends the next hour coughing for everyone. I have given him about 100 mini parties with a lot of “hip hip hooray”s for each time he does it. My favorite is when I was nursing him at four in the morning and after he was done, I hear him muster up a little cough. I was exhausted, but I still had a little celebration with a decently loud hip hip hooray. I wonder if Micah found the charm in that, or the annoyance?
-
Speaking of copying, this boy will sing with me when my mom or I sing to him. My mom has been rocking him lately and singing the nursery rhymes to him, and he just lays back and stares into her eyes and is completely mesmerized. And then when he snaps out of it, he sings with her. It is absolutely the sweetest thing you’ll ever see.
-
This boy is a champion eater. From the first time he ate baby food, he takes it in and doesn’t really spit it out. He is pretty easy to feed. He also likes everything. Every type of baby food combo, my homemade baby food, my in-a-pinch concoctions and even sushi rice — which happens to be his favorite.
-
This boy doesn’t sit up, roll or crawl at all. He can turn over, but I don’t like to let him down enough to practice any of the other stuff. And if I could, I would pause his growth for a few years, because I am so in love with him.
-
This boy loves to lay on his back and play with his feet. And Navy helps me out with always ripping off his socks and cleaning out any sock residue that might be between his toes. (Honestly, it drives me nuts that she does this whenever she has the opportunity, but she really thinks she is doing his a great service, so I go with it.)
-
This boy is a mama’s boy.
-
This boy was a bit constipated when he started having more formula, but everything has been worked out now.
Thank you baby suppositories.
-
This boy smiles from ear to ear all day long, and especially loves when I kiss his neck and my chin bone tickles him. That’s when I get the gut laughs.
-
This boy might cry, but the second he sees his mom, he doesn’t have a worry in the world.
-
This boy lays on his tummy and with his arms and legs lifted off the ground, kicks and waves frantically fpr about 25 seconds straight. I think he has a really good core.
-
This boy still loves the bath, and especially loves when I have him in there by himself on his back in about 2 inches of water. He splashes for as long as I will let him be in there.
-
This boy looks like he has a touch of eczema. Mostly behind his knees. But nothing Bag Balm doesn’t wipe away in a day.
-
I could go on and on about how perfect this boy of mine is, but I’m keeping some of it secret. I don’t want anyone reading this to get jealous.
San Clemente put in a darling park, so as soon as I got a chance, I took the kids and RoRo.
Dash LOVED the swing. He cried when I took him off, so we headed back. It was slightly cute. Navy — although her expression shows otherwise, loved the swing as well.
But Navy’s real passion lies in her “collections”. No matter where we are, she starts gathering things for her collection. Sometimes it is sticks, other times it is flowers, but no matter what, she is usually in the middle of one. This day, she was collecting the unfinished bathroom floor specks of plastic. She spent almost an hour getting it all beefed up to show Scout.
And once her collection finally bored her, she went on to her next passion. Bugs. She is always getting her “friends” off of leaves or the ground and hanging out with them. This day, she found a roly poly that caught her fancy.
Scout, RoRo and Navy had a good time as a threesome on the handicapped swing.
Meanwhile, the happiest baby on earth was smiling from ear to ear as he was back on the swing.
Between smiles, he sucked away. Do you die over him the way I do?
Or is this the personality that speaks to you?
It was a really fun afternoon that ended up with some jumping from a dare devil.
I might be hard to believe that this girl ended up with a fat lip from the swing in front of our house just ten minutes after we got home from the park. She fell off and hit a birdhouse that was on the ground.
It was bound to happen at some point.
Good thing this fall didn’t end in any sort of cast!
Scout, Navy, Dash, neighbor Vince and I all headed up to the gardens to till in some manure. While I was working on the fourth garden bed, Scout, Navy and Vince decided to play in the maze. (AKA cruise around the gardens and play chase.) Upon their arrival, they announced to me they found some cool stuff. (One of the reasons I love the garden is because they explore and discover.)
Scout had found an apple that had fallen to the ground.
Vince had found a Hot Wheels car.
Navy had found a baby bird in the rigamortis state.
Of course she did.
5 1/2 months old…
And already holding his own bottle.
But if you look a little closer — he has a little propping help.
I used to cringe when my dad would put any friend I had over to work. I used to think that anybody that came over must think I had the lamest household where they were always getting jobs. Well, apparently the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree because I have turned into my dad.
Here is one of the many instances. My kids were washing these random mud splatters off our garage door, and Vince the neighbor wanted to hang out. I told him he was welcome, but we had to work hard before we played hard.
Funny thing is, every time that boy sees us working, he makes his way over.
That being said, I think he secretly likes the responsibility.
Good thing, because I certainly like the extra set of hands.
Scout wasn’t feeling his bike. So when I went to Pottery Barn and there was a Balance Bike on the floor sample sale for $20, I bought it. This bike has been the best investment I have ever made for him. He is ALWAYS on the things, and rips it up.
Wish I had bought it WAY sooner.
