Costco Matchers

img_0506-2016-01-09-at-17-36-13.jpg
When my kids are matching at Costco, our shopping trip takes twice as long.  Because every little old man or lady that sees them, comments and wants to ask them a few questions.  I love it!  But what I don’t love, is when my boys are happy and willing to engage, while my girls play coy and shy.
It is these Costco trips that give me a few teaching moments.
Because if there is one thing I do not like, it’s when kids don’t know how to act in front of adults.

Homework @ Pickup

img_0504-2016-01-08-at-14-11-06.jpg
Every once in a while, when I go pick up Scout at school, he is sitting on the ground working on his homework.
He forgoes playing “backpack bumpers” with Noah, he doesn’t chase any girls, and he doesn’t try to do tricks on the swings — he just sits and works.
There are two reasons he can be found working….
1 — he wants to do something after school, and knows that homework is to be done first.
-OR-
2 — He is on a kick where he is trying to be the perfect child. He does this quite often, and makes me sooooo proud as a mother to know that when he wants to, he really does know how to be awesome!

Fruit Lover #2

img_0500-2016-01-08-at-13-45-21.jpg
I don’t know if anyone will pass up Scout in the fruit-loving department.
But Dash is giving a valiant effort.
He is loving the Cara Cara Oranges we have been getting from Costco, and I have been loving that he is begging for fruit.
(And Cool Ranch Doritos.)

Ice Fishing

I have talked about going ice fishing, ever since my coworker from Utah told me how awesome it is.  So when Bryan and Kelsi told us they were going to go in Minnesota (Bryan’s stomping grounds) Micah was in!  (What a rip that he was invading my wish to go.  But when another spot opened up — I got the bed!
My coworker didn’t downplay the adventure at all!
It was an absolute blast.

Here is our home away from home.
There were four beds per unit, a small kitchen area w/ a stove, and 7 oggered holes around the perimeter of the open space, to fish all day and night.

The weather was a dream — low 30’s, so we fished outside as well.

Bryan created the raddest trip — and I think Karma was in his favor, because he caught tons of rad fish.
Actually, we all did!
There was a max amount of fish we could pull up each day, and we were actually picking and choosing which fish to keep, because we were catching so many.

At day’s end, we would grab our fish, drive to the shore, and filet the fish.
Then the guys in the kitchen would fry them up.
It may be the best fish I have ever tasted.  It was mainly Walleye, and was so fresh, that after filleting and handling the fish, there was no fishy smell on your hands.
One night we ate the fish just as it came.
But another night, Kelsi made all the fixins for fish tacos, and they were insane!
The best part, was that everyone was looking at us, wondering what we were doing.  Most had never heard of a fish taco — and certainly never tasted one!
Because our bounty was so large, we started passing out fish tacos to everyone, and they were all sold!

My contribution to the trip was a box of Snickers.
We stuck them in the snow to freeze, and like the advertising says….they really did satisfy!

One of the craziest things while we were on the lake, was the ice expanding.
We would hear these crazy loud cracks, and Bryan assured us we weren’t going under.
Apparently, when the ice freezes and expands, it pushes huge ice formations above and below the water line.
It kind of reminded me of a scene out of Superman.

It was the funnest trip.
It was warm, we caught tons of fish, we ate well, and we loved hanging sans kids.
And to top it off — we hit up Mall of America!
Talk about a great time!
Thanks Kelsi and Bryan.

Hiking With Auntie Gail???

I have these cute pictures of my four kids on a hike.
I know only two things about these pics:
#1 — I was not with them.
#2 — I have no idea who was?!
Based on the pictures, I can tell it was in the Bear Brand area…and based on that, I vaguely remember Auntie Gail taking the four weasels on a hike.

So Auntie Gail,
If this was you — which I am guessing it was….thank you!
I am sure my kids had a blast!

New Year’s Narc

img_0411-2016-01-01-at-12-33-41.jpg
Navy is my little note writer.
They are usually little love notes to different members of the family, and are the cutest things in the world.
But every once in a while, she uses them for narcing.

Today, Dash got sold out.
But I have to be honest — I don’t have eyes everywhere, and if one of my kids is being lazy…I welcome the narc!
And since our phrase about laziness is, “Lazy kids are working kids”, that poor little Dash got a few more jobs to put his elbow grease into!
Navy….mission accomplished.

Paper Cutting

My kids got a case of plain white paper for Christmas from Nonnie.
Partially because she is sick of them swiping her paper, and partially because between paper airplanes and cutting out snowflakes, they go through a ridiculous amount of paper!

I think they clocked about two full hours today.
Not bad for an afternoon of cheap fun!

2016!

img_0400-2016-01-01-at-11-16-00.jpg
This is our attempt at “2 - 0 - 1 - 6″.
At least Scout got his number correct and where we can see it!

STATION IDENTIFICATION!

I have blogged now, for almost 9 years straight.  To be honest, it is a big huge pain a lot of the time.  Mostly because, I either have to get up really early in the morning to write — or stay up into the night when I am so exhausted, I can barely see straight.  Because if I happen to sneak away from my kids during the day, like hunting dogs to their kill, my kids find me…crawl into my lap, and insist on watching family videos.  Hence, the blogging goes down the drain.
There have been times when I think it is a good time to call it a day on the blog, but my nature of keeping things fair for my kids, will not allow me to do that.  I figure that having every single story of Scout and Navy’s lives written down is such a cool thing.  And what a rip it would be to Dash and Pippi to not have their stories.  So I am guessing that I will continue to write….for a very long time!
Today’s real date (although I am backdating this post) is April 23, 2016.
As of now, I don’t have one thing written down on this blog.
But I have kept up with pictures, and will try my hardest to recreate our last four months, with our life’s happenings, as if I was writing the night it happened.
My point being, the posts may be short, and lacking details — but I’ll give it my best shot.
I am behind on the blog, because life is busy.  But there is another reason….that theoretically started the day the Calendar changed to 2016.  I didn’t find out about it until later this month, but I will tell the story from now.
The beginning of January was fun — Micah and I went ice fishing, we had just rung in the new year, and everything was rolling along perfectly.  Skylar had the marathon flu, and about the end of January, I started to get the same thing.  When I say marathon, I mean marathon!  I felt sick for what seemed like weeks — just the way Skylar was.  My mom was visiting Tristen, but kept getting reports about how I was so unlike myself, and started threatening me to get to a doctor.  Yeah right I needed a doctor!  About 3 weeks into me feeling terrible, Micah told me he was coming down with the same thing.  Well, in honor of DraMicah getting well fast, I went to find out what the heck we all had.
Thank goodness for my beloved Dr. Theiny who took a blood panel and called me the next morning.
After we spoke, I FaceTimed Micah, and said, “Well Babe, you definitely don’t have what I have.”
He disagreed with me for a few seconds, and then paused and said, “WHAT?! You’re pregnant?!”
I confirmed, and then the conversation went like this, “How are we that couple?” and “How could we be so irresponsible?”
Needless to say, we weren’t planning on a #5.
It took many days of consistent shock to absorb the information we had received.  We had to try so hard to get our first four babies — with five times the amount of a normal dose of Clomid for 4-6 months each time!  Even Dr. Thein agreed with my statement, “I thought it was impossible for me to get pregnant on my own!”  He said, “Lindsey, I have never known you to ovulate.”
But here we are.
Without a baby crib, infant carrier, baby jumper, etc.
Here we are….preparing for our baby who must really want to be here with us.
I’ll admit that I am still somewhat in shock — but I am having more and more moments of peace and excitement.
My kids are ridiculously happy about the news — although the boys want a boy, and the girls want a girl.
And I am sure that as life unfolds, it will become clearer and clearer that this is our unexpected but perfect surprise.
Did I mention I write this now, because our little surprise was a byproduct of ringing in 2016?!!!
Now on to blogging….
