Scout is obsessed with the apricots this year.
These 11 seeds are from one breakfast sitting.
Navy opted for the regular Cheerios.
After his bottle, my teething baby gnawed on a crusty french baguette.
And by the time I finished with the other two, Scout had finished another 5 apricots.
-
I bet you aren’t surprised that he immediately used the facilities after breakfast.
Navy has been blowing kisses in slow motion lately. It really is funny to see. Here she is…mid 30 second kiss. I kind of love it, because when she blows on my way, I think she is trying to emphasize the kiss. So when I get one, I take it as she really, really loves me — instead of just one really. ANd I savor them each time. Because although I get a few, it is Dash who gets most of these.
Whenever my kids are sick, I make them a sick bed on the couch. So when Dash woke up sick with a fever (about 103 degrees), Scout reminded me that he needed a sick bed. I agreed as long as Scout and Navy were there to make sure he didn’t roll off.
Obviously they were game because along with a sick bed goes Sesame Street.

I originally thought Dash’s fever was due to teething because his gums are really sore. But it turns out that he had Rosiola — which starts out with a high fever and then turns into a rash on his trunk a few days later. Thanks to Dr. Scummy who diagnosed it. Nonnie thought she was crazy, but Carruthy confirmed that she was right on the money just a day later. Now Nonnie owes Scummy a shopping spree! (Although Nonnie says she will only pay up with a family dinner!)
One of the reasons NYC is so fun — on our sissy trips — is because we spend money on things that we wouldn’t usually spend it on. Like when I saw this real tiara for Navy, my mom was game.
And just look at that smile on her face — obviously it was money well spent!
Between me — whom my classmates called “Butt White” in junior high, and Micah….we have the spectrum of white to olive skin covered. So when we were going to have kids, it was anyone’s guess to see what the combo would produce. From the get go, I wanted my kids to have “my personality and Micah’s skin”. Not necessarily because I love his skin type so much more — but mostly because I absolute hated sunblock -my own personal prison- growing up.
So the results are in….
Scout gets a beautiful warm tan in the summer. But has the most darling freckles across his nose. I die over his skin and his army green eyes.
Icka has beautiful skin that gets a little darker tan than Scout. She doesn’t have my freckles, but has a couple of to-die-for beauty marks on her face. my favorite is the one on the lower rim of her left eye. I call her my chocolate chip cookie with her little random beauties and chocolate brown eyes.
The jury is still out, but my guess is that Dash will be more along the likes of Navy. His eyes are more like hers. Either way, I will love it. And as far as his eyes go — I originally thought they were slate grey, but they are turning. I haven’t officially named them yet, because I am not sure where they will settle.
-
So in the end, my kids did get olive skin! Hooray for them that they don’t have to live in the sun block prison. But I guess I need to retract that statement, because I have never met anyone who is more adamant on putting sunblock on everywhere, every day than Micah is. So I guess it is straight back to sun block prison we all go!
(Props to him — because it’s better than skin cancer.)
Is it just my kids — or do all kids lay perpendicular to the way I sleep — and kick me in the process?
Notice that she is where I am supposed to be laying comfortably.
She made up for my lack of sleep when I saw her wake up and then start combing through Micah’s hair the way I do.
She is literally the sweetest little girl when she wants to be.
And she is always the most caring little girl.
Whether it is Dash, Scout, Micah or me (or anyone else for that matter), she is always mothering someone who is hurt or just needs a little extra TLC.
One of my favorite purchases from NYC were these bud vases from ABC Home.
They are in clear, a pale blue and a pale green.
By the way — that might be the best store in New York.
I die over it!
-
I am the homemaking leader, so I pulled out my vases in an effort to spruce up the house for the meeting.
After school. Scout and I drove around to pick some wild flowers.
When we got home, we trimmed them and color coordinated them.
The kids loved the activity.
They loved filling the vases with water.
They loved putting the flowers in at different heights and colors.
And then they helped me put them around the house.
This was a completely joint effort, and I will have to admit that they did a WAY better job than I even expected.
Nice work kids!
While I was out getting my hair done, Calin babysat Dash and Micah started up quite the pool party.
Look at that girl waiting for her money.
Too bad my money comes in the form of setting up a movie night for her friends the night before!
Across the yard, there was some BBQing by Nate.
An amazing spread of hummus via DJ.
And kids galore!
Meanwhile, I was getting our table set for a shindig later that night.
-
The pool party/BBQ was a hit — as usual.
Right after they left, we had some different house guests.
And the shindig turned out perfectly.

Just a crammed Saturday.
But it’s the way I like it.
Being gone in NYC created quite the bonding experience for Icka and Micah.
Obviously he is as smitten as ever.
But a few days have past, and she has come back to where her bread is really buttered.
But if I am being honest — neither of us can lay claim.
That girl works every situation to her benefit.
I don’t quite remember, but I bet that immediately after this photo, Icka batted her eyelashes and asked her “daddy” for the Barbie Convertible!
If I have the kids in the car in the evening, we will usually say their prayers and the family prayer before we head into the house. Last night, the kids were exhausted and I knew it would be mayhem before bed, so I parked in the driveway, and we said our prayers.
-
Usually we have some themes on prayer time. Whomever is asked to go first will start immediately, and then the other child starts to complain that he/she “didn’t get to go first last night!!!” (Hence, the starting immediately.) After a bit of that, we start over. Scout’s prayers are amazing. He sounds a little evangelical in them, and Micah and I have looked at each other many a times with huge smiles on our faces. He is so thoughtful and sweet.
Icka says the funniest little prayers. Usually she opens her eyes and goes around the room and says, “I love mama, I love Dada, I love Dashy, I love Scout” and then she includes about anyone else she can think of. After that, she blesses the food. (I have repeatedly told her that you only bless the food before we eat. But you know by me telling her that, just gave her more reason to bless the food at night.) Her prayers usually sound alike, and are pretty cute.
-
Last night as we were in our car, after Scout’s prayer, Icka said hers with the sweetest little voice from the back seat. I expected to hear that she loves a lot of people, but this time it was more thought out. After saying a few things, she paused for a moment and then said, “And please help Skylar to be weally weally weally weally good, so dat B will be poud of her.” I died.
-
Who knows if B is proud of Skylar today (she had a little tiff with NayNay last night), but little Icka has a proud mother!
