Navy was at Auggie’s house, and was sitting in a timeout in the bathroom for being mean to Trey. When Scout walked by the bathroom and saw the entire bathroom toilet papered, he exclaimed, “Oh no! She has trashed the house!” When everyone came to look, he then apologetically confessed, “Yeah…she learned it from me.”
-
Quite honestly, I would claim Scout as being one of the biggest non-mess making kids on earth. However, I do remember the time when he did go a little crazy with toilet paper with Icka. Apparently, I now know who the culprit was at that time. Unfortunately, my educated guess is that Icka took the brunt of that one.
While I was making baby food, Dash got a little unruly during his nap.
So Ka took charge and got him back to bed in the best way possible.
Look at his freshly sucked fingers that just fell from his mouth.
My camera stirred him a bit, and he turned right into Ka, and got those fingers back in his mouth.
Is this heaven or what?
I was completely jealous of having his little baby breath that close to me.
So while Micah is away, I think I will take that sweet little boy and coozie with him in my bed tonight.
Because quite honestly, sleeping with him is heaven.
But waking up with him grinning from ear to ear when he sees me, might even be better.
After gardening for a few hours this morning - and coming home with some beautiful summer squash, I decided to make Dash some baby food.
I had peaches and apricots on hand. So I baked them up along with a few bananas and some squash.
Then I felt like it could use a little power boost of kale in it, so I added some of that.
The results:
About 20 feedings of apricot/peach/banana/squash/kale-homemade deliciousness.
Here is most of it cooling down.
The other was sitting in limbo, waiting for Dash to wake up for lunch.
Once it was cool, it went into the freezer — right where his last homemade baby food sat.
(Remember the Julien applesauce I made?)
Dash’s take on it:
He ate more of that food than he has ever eaten. I usually give him around 4 ounces of food each meal. This time, he ate about 8 ounces, and screamed when it was done.

I think he was trying to tell me, “my compliments to the chef”.
Chloe and Trey were over today.
On top of my kids being thrilled to be with their cousins, they picked up some sweet new moves in the pool.
Chloe taught Navy how to dive to bottom of our deep end. I think it is around 8 feet, and Navy was retrieving things over and over again. It was amazing. She is three and swims like a stinking fish! So here is the toy, at the bottom of the pool.
Here is Icka swimming down. It is hilarious, because she swims in a corkscrew all the way down. She does three times the work, and is wiped when she gets up. It is awesome.
But even with the heavy workload, look what Icka got!
She jumped right out to show it to me.
I was so proud of my little girl who can dive down to get bombs off the bottom of our pool!
What happened to good old rings?
-
After Icka’s deep diving, Scout showed off another fete that Trey and Chloe helped teach.
My boy can dive.
(I have to laugh, because when he was about three, he could do the most amazingly beautiful swan dives and flips off the side of the pool. But he didn’t know he was doing them, and then when he tried to do them — it was a series of belly flops.)
Look at that form!
And that glide into the water!
And not to be outdone — Icka tried diving next.
Maybe she’ll master that next time!
-
Chloe and Trey — you guys are insane!
Thanks for teaching them in one afternoon what I have been trying to for a few months!
Have you ever seen a cuter sitting shark in all your life?
And just to think — the side view might even be cuter.

Although Dash is crawling like a mad man, he hasn’t been a very good sitter. But I would like to officially state that he is now pretty decent at this skill. The skill that most babies have down before 5 months. Hey — what are you going to do? The baby held his head up from the day he was born. But when you are held so much, you don’t practice these things. So at 8 months….my boy is a full-blown sitter! A little backwards from crawling to sitting, but you know what they say, “Kids that crawl before they sit are Mensa-level geniuses.”
I am determined to make this summer count. Scout is off to kindergarten next year, and life as we have known it will never be the same. How sad is that. But in the meantime, we are partying it up! So our day went a little like this:
-We start all of our summer days out with some jobs. Usually make their beds, clean various rooms, tidy up the backyard, etc.
-Then we do “preschool”. You know a little learning action.
-Then we spiritually edify ourselves with a little scripture reading. My little Icka is really grasping them finally.
-Then, this morning, we headed to the Kaleidoscope for a magic show. It was thoroughly entertaining. “Dave the Magician” was very funny and very skilled. Scout and Navy were glued to his show for the whole hour!
-The we met up with Skills who pays my bills.
And we told her about the exciting thing we pulled from our jar the day before. (You know, the day we were supposed to go bombed because we went to Ka’s house on a special mission instead.)
So we got the kids ready, and before heading out, we attempted to get a family pic. But they were way too into each other to look my way.
Scout and Navy have become lovers of the beach! And this one without a wave in sight was pretty great. (But not as great as Abalone!)
Dash is a beach fan also! This is just the beginning of his sand stache. By the end (after I had put the camera away), he had a full goatee. And that is only what landed on his face. You should have seen what he got into his mouth! I think he might have eaten a cup or two of sand. And he loved every bite.
I attempted another family shot, but Dash wanted to crawl and eat some more sand, while Icka sneezed away.
The candid shots were working better, as they all played away in the sand.
(It literally amazes me how intriguing the sand is to children for hours on end.)

After the beach, and some swimming afterwards, Micah heard it was a good fishing day and came to pick us up for the San Clemente Pier.
My kids are always excited for the pier — especially since they brought their bike and scooter along.
But after a while, without catching a thing, they turned to their peanuts. Thank goodness my kids don’t have allergies to these things, because they LOVE them a good bag full of peanuts.
Then Icka kept going over to the sweet guy across the way who kept reeling them in. I told him that he was Icka’s hero. And he must have felt that way because she spent most of her time over at their camp.
But when she heard a few squeals from Dashy, she came back. But yet again, didn’t cooperate for a family photo.
So I focused on this handsome devil instead.
-
When we finally made it home, my kids were wiped! A morning full of stuff, a magic show, a day at the beach, an hour in the pool, an evening at the pier was just right. My kids hit the sack like a ton of bricks. And about an hour later — so did I.
The cutest baby on earth is officially 8 months today.
Although, when he was still 7 months old (two days ago), he went to church in a big boy outfit, and looked SO big.
Here is my attempt at getting a photo.
But Scout came down and helped a girl out.
It makes me excited to see him grow, but bummed to see him silently leave the baby stage.
He has been the sweetest, happiest and cutest addition to this household.
Let me tell of a few things that describe Dash at the moment:
- This boy LOVES his voice and screams all the time — even in restaurants!
- When he isn’t screaming, he loves to talk and talk and talk.
- This boy started crawling a bit ago and has never stopped. His knees are like sandpaper.
- This boy is amazingly good about putting food in his mouth, but not anything else. I constantly clear the room of little objects, but even when he gets to one first, he never puts it into his mouth. But I’ll still clear to be safe.
- This boy smiles at me from across the room. And when someone else has him, he screams until I get him. And if he sees me from across the church, he screams until I hold him. He’s my boy, and it better NEVER change.
- This boy loves to grab my eyelash fakeys.
- This boy is beyond excited when he sees B. Like all of my other kids — he adores her. But for the record, she is busy with some guy named Peter, so Dash isn’t even getting the real deal B.
- This boy loves when Nonnie rocks him and sings to him. He could lay in her arms all day long.
- This boy loves spaghetti noodles — along with every other type of big person food.
- This boy gets mauled by Icka, and he just goes with it every time.
- This boy gets carried all over the house by Scout — even out of his crib, down the stairs to my bed. I know — WHOA!
- This boy has a little golden tan that makes the cutest baby in the world — even cuter.
- This boy literally looks like an angel when he first wakes up. He has the purest face with a beautiful grin from ear to ear.
- This boy is like my secret little treasure. I only want a few others to know about him, because if everyone knew about him — I would be afraid that he would get stolen.
-
Dash — 8 months is a short time.
But it has been long enough for me to fall completely in love with you.
This is a very exciting post to write!
When NayNay was about 12 years old, I made a bet with her and Skilly that if they could make it until 17 years of age without kissing a boy or saying a bad word, that I would pay them $1000.00. Well, NayNay the good girl just turned 17. And lucky for her, she just got $1000.00 richer! It was worth every penny to me, and was certainly worth avoiding a few close calls to her.
-
You are welcome Trilby.
You are welcome Calin.
I wish you luck Skilly.
Thank you Micah!
Navy has officially had her first crush! So when she got the news that Elder Shmitty was being transferred, we had to have him over for dessert one last time. So Micah whipped up crepes while Navy and Scout tormented Shmitty.
This was her “pose”.
And then she gave a wrestling style hug (Scout did also from behind).
And they had to take off, but my kids were completely against that idea.
-
Good thing Elder Jake is sticking around to lessen the blow.
Elder Shmitty — it was fun while we had you!
And Icka will get over it….eventually!
Scout, Icka, Dash and I had picked “Baby Beach” out of the jar. We were all gussied up and ready to go when we called Skylar to come also. When I called, she was really sad on the other end because she was in trouble at home and couldn’t leave until she got some things done. When I went to tell the kids about the dilemma, Scout heard it and replied, “Mom, I think we should go and help Ka to make her happy. Because helping people is always better than playing.” When he finished, I asked Icka what she wanted to do, and she said, “Let’s go help Ka!” So in our bathing suits and already sun-blocked, we headed over to Ka’s house to go to work for a few hours.

I can honestly say that as a mother, I try my hardest to raise good, respectful, nice and thoughtful children. And who ever knows if what I am trying to do is sinking in all the way. But after this little experience, I feel like I might be doing something right. And as a mother, nothing is more gratifying. I was so proud of my kids.
