Scout might go down in history, as the best scavenger hunt creator! Tomorrow is Christmas, and my list is long, but Scout gathered me and Micah up to send us on a scavenger hunt. I barely had time, but wanted to go humor him. And that is when I realized — I was taking part in the coolest thing I could ever imagine!
We were warned to bring screw drivers, and Micah set out on our adventure!
In Micah’s words…”Scout went next level!” We were taking apart all sorts of stuff to get to the minuscule clues he had hidden around our room and bathroom.
We finally hit our final clue…where we only had to “take off the bottom left drawer”!
This kid is so classic!
When we removed the drawer, we could see our treasure in the back.
It was the cutest picture he made for us!
We were all raving about his creativity and his ingenuity. AND his ability to take things apart and put them back together so perfectly! It was an awesome reprieve to the Christmas mayhem going on in our home right now!
Thanks Scout — and there is a spot next to my side of the bed, where your picture will look perfect!
If there was a contest, where you sent in a picture of what Christmas looks like to you — I would send in this photo, of my dad reading Pippi her baby book next to the roaring fire. The stocking are all hung with great care next to them, the Christmas cards are on the wall behind them, and Pippi is whispering her greatest wishes into Santa’s ear.
But then again – Christmas hymns at church where a 12-eayr-old has his arm around his Nonnie could be a close second.
OUr family’s Christmas exchange has been dubbed — Christmas Eve Eve.
It is a pretty fun night.
This year…everyone was pretty thoughtful.
Dash knew that Navy would love a butterfly net.
Micah knew that Dash would love his own tent.
Navy knew that I would love something nice written down.
She also created something for both me and Micah — that was awesome!
AND THE BEST GIFT…
Pippi KNEW that Scout would love razors, “because he needs them now”!
After a good night of exchanging gifts — Dash slept in his new tent, while Pippi had the horse I got her keeping watch.
My worst nightmare.
The kid’s dreamland!
Dana Point does Christmas right! The lights around the harbor are incredible. Our night walk through them with Nonnie, the Hunts and the Seastrands was really fun — except when the little kids were running, and they were weaving through the old people — we put a quick stop to that.
I bet your hairdresser isn’t 81 like mine is!
And she doesn’t fake her way through it with clippers — everything is done by hand.
Nice work Nonnie.
Have you ever seen a cuter Christmas girl giving a Christmas talk in your life?
I bet not.
This might be our tenth year of being part of this amazing December tradition the Brockbanks do each year! Like usual, the Brockbanks knocked it out of the park this year, as they helped a family who needed it at this time of the year. What I especially love — is that my kids get so excited to participate each year.
Especially Scout and Navy, who both got rave reviews from Bryan about their help.
Brockbanks — you are the best examples to our kids that I have ever seen! Thank you for letting us be part of this awesome tradition.
Navy invited CoCo to do the Chalk Walk with her this year.
We had such a good time!
But the best time, was when we saw the final results.
It turned out so awesome!
Like usual — we didn’t have a plan. But earlier in the day, we found a picture of a cross section of a white Christmas tree that looked easy enough and looked really cool. We changed it up, and made it a green Christmas tree, and the girls drew a million pine needles until we got kicked out of the parking lot.
Meanwhile, some of the walking group grabbed Pippi, to have her help them out on their space.
And when Pippi got bored, she found her own space to draw her own picture.
Right in the middle of the walkways.
She did a few.
(I turned my head and played dumb, when the lady in charge said, “Who on Earth is Pippi — who thought it was okay to write her name everywhere!”)
I was dying — but my nose was so involved in what I was doing, I didn’t notice what Pippi was doing!
Navy and I went the next morning to complete our tree and sign our work! We were very happy with how it turned out.
And the best part — we added twinkle lights onto the “branches” so it was a lit Christmas tree — and it was so stinking cute! I have to be honest — it was a crowd favorite — and we even won the Mayor’s Choice award!
We love the Chalk Walk!
And so did “Pipi Pizzazz”, who actually got her name included on the older girl’s space!
Nobody — including her teachers — know how Navy has never been Student of the Month! But Navy’s theory is…”If someone is really bad, and then tries hard for a month, they get student of the month. Since I am always good, I get overlooked.” I tried to reassure her that her theory wasn’t realistic, when she interrupted me and said, “MOM!! SCOUT was Student of the Month!”
She has a point.
Look at my cute girl, who was surprised this morning when her name was called! She couldn’t believe that in her last year at Bergeson, she finally had the honor.
Then her teacher told me that Navy is literally one of the easiest and kindest students she has ever taught!
I believe it!
Now check out her hand! There is nothing like getting Student of the Month, the morning after you stayed up all night to chalk walk a Christmas scene!
