We all braved the freezing temperatures to see Scout in his last game of the season.
And then we headed to a warm pizza place to see Scout be awarded.
Every coach says the same thing — he is the best at taking directions, and is very respectful.
As a mom….those are two really great things to hear!
Nice work Scout.
Polie is my family’s angel.
—
Scout just gave a talk on Polie that tells the story…here it is:
“Let me tell you the story of a lady named Polie. Navy and I go to a school where you only speak Mandarin Chinese, and sometimes it is hard. And when it is hard, my mom can’t help me, nor can my dad help me. But one of my friend’s grandma — Polie, offered to help tutor us in Mandarin. She is awesome. She helps us three times a week. And whenever my mom tried to pay her, she refuses to accept anything. And do you know that when she comes to tutor us, she knows I love goldfish crackers, and brings us each a bag of them. She also brings us apple pears that she peels and cuts up for us. And if you think that is nice, get this! When she recently heard Navy likes pomegranate seeds, Polie spends her television time at night picking out the seeds of a pomegranate one by one for Navy. She is awesome!
Polie’s kindness reminds me of the scripture that says, “For behold I tell you these things, that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn that when you are in the service of your fellow beings, you are only in the service of your God.”
I hope to always be kind like Polie.
Because I know that when I do kind things for others, I am also doing something kind for my Heavely Father.

And that is why I love this woman as if she is my own grandmother.
And the best part…
She has my kids call he “Po Po”. The same name her grandkids call her. Because she says, “Scout and Navy are like my very own grandkids.” She loves them so much, and the feeling is mutual on our side.
My first words this morning were, “Dash, I’m a lover, not a fighter. Please don’t beat me up.”
And in one sentence, I ruined all of his plans for this morning.
Clearly Pippi, the Spider Monkey, is the most sought-after dance-twirling partner.
She holds on tight, she weighs nothing, and she grins ear-to-ear the whole time.
My favorite sport is back!
My favorite because, there is no sun protection needed, they are fast-paced games, Scout likes it, and every practice/game is 1/2 a mile from me.
Long live basketball!
Not much tops a night full of adventure in my books.
Tonight’s adventure involved sneaking into our high school’s track.
Setting up shop with the Seastrands.
And then laying in the freezing cold to watch a meteor shower.
Meanwhile, the kids proved their toughness by going shirtless.
Scout took the prize of toughest — as he was shirtless and shoeless the whole time.
And it was in the 40’s.
If Dash has to get out of the stroller to try on a hat, then Pips, the copycat, is following his every move.
So it is official, I now have four kids who are each completely impossible to shop with.
Dash is the first of my four kids to have his annual eye appointment.
He was so perfect at it, the doctor and nurse both commented on it.
And because he was so good, his little sissy was good too.
I die over this picture. It reminds me of Grandpa Murchie for some reason. Just a cool guy, doing his thing.
The verdict:
He has a slight astigmatism that may, or may not manifest itself in the future — which would mean glasses.
That isn’t a total bad thing, because look how stinking cute he would be in glasses.
This lady is 77 years young!
And after a week away, and a long day of travel…Nonnie spent her birthday doing what she does best.
Relaxing and Nonnie-ing.
Have I mentioned how much we loved Doey on the trip! She was RAD! She was beyond helpful, funny as can be, an amazing wheelchair driver, always happy, a good sport, and easy going. Micah and I agree that she is welcome on any trip we ever go on. In fact, we just might beg her to go on all of our future trips!
XOXO
And I didn’t even tell you about the time that we were at a gas station, and she and Navy jumped out to do something. It turns out, that she got some of her own money, and took Navy in to buy a Snickers bar, Gatorade and Doritos for the homeless man with a sign. They walked it over together, and I was so proud of the good example that she set for Navy — and all of my children the whole trip.
Doey — you’re the best!
