The similarities between Pippi and Nonnie are ridiculous.
They both have bird legs.
They both have a hard time keeping pants above their nonexistent booties.
They both love Shredded Wheat.
They both love a beauty pageant on television.
And they both have pizzazz oozing out of their pores.
I’m glad I could reunite you two twins — 75 years apart.
Pippi woke up this morning and suggested a date with her dad.
I wrote down what she wanted to do with him, and when he got back from working out, she presented it.
It said:
Car wash
The Hive for a coconut popsicle
Park
(later crossed out because she just really wanted the Hive)
Hive again
Hive again
Movie night
Daddy got suckered in, and added a few things.
He added in wrestling with his girl.
Then they washed the car, and went to the Hive.
Then they met up with me and Nonnie at Indian food for a dinner date.
But to be clear — she was hand in hand the whole night with her one and only.
I asked Pippi later about the day.
She said, “It was the best day in the world!”
I’m not sure why Micah is giggling at the Advanced Directive I gave him before my bladder surgery this morning.
It’s simple stuff –
Don’t remarry until the kids are grown.
Take them to church.
Don’t remarry a redhead.
DO NOT PULL THE PLUG!
(I verbally added that I’d like him to come and talk to me every evening as I was in a coma.)
Love my mom.
Simple stuff…right?!?
Although this may look like an ad for Resolve Carpet Cleaner, it is actually Pippi’s favorite Wednesday activity!
The days we come home to the cleaner’s mops and vacuums on our front porch, Pippi squeals out, “YAY! Da cweaners are here!”
Then she walks in, and starts helping out wherever she can.
She especially loves Isabel, and usually opts to work right alongside her.
After a rough morning, Scout was assigned to come home with a list of things he loves about Navy.
I was proud to see his list, as soon as he entered the car from school.
“Nice, guards my backpack, stands up for me, kind, loving, plays with me, DDim (not sure what this is), buttiffle, pretty, helpful.”
All are so true.
I especially love “stands up for me”, because she always tells me that when other kids say his Pokemons are fake and from China, she yells at them.
But I especially question the spelling of beautiful. He definitely knows how to spell it, and I am wondering if that was an under toned jab?!
I’m just gonna have to celebrate what I got, and let that one slide.
After I got her dressed for the day, Pippi wound up in the car to pick up the kids in her pajamas.
We must have been a sight to see, when my friend came to my window to talk to me, and Pippi was sporting PJ’s, a plumber’s crack, and a sucker for lunch.
Dash learned a song about fall leaves in school, and has become obsessed. He and I point out all of the brightly colored leaves all over town. He was telling me about how his teacher has a relative who lives by really pretty leaves, and that relative sent them to his teacher to show the kids. So now, I have a fall leaf trip on the books for next year!
In the meantime, he will settle for the leaves in front of his school.
He asks me every day, “Mom, can you wait a little longer, so I can pick up some of the colorful leaves?”
I tell him yes.
And when he looks for a bag to collect them in…
We settle for a McDonald’s Happy Meal box.
I love seeing life through little kid’s eyes…and Dash’s eyes might be the best yet!
Each morning, before school, Dash gets coaxed into playing Little Critters, magnets, or pattern blocks.
And each morning, they giggle and adore each other.
And when it’s time to take Dashy to school, Pippi insists on going, and calling out goodbye about 40 times. And Dash returns her gesture each and every time, by a wave or a blown kiss.
These two should be the model for a happily married couple.
If only every wife and husband acted the way they act to each other.
Seventy Eight years ago, the greatest thing in all of history happened!
And now, 78 years later, we celebrate!
The morning got started off right, when Micah realized the “Happy Birthday” sign wasn’t up for our beloved, so he got it up quickly before Nonnie showed up.
Then it was a girl’s day, where we started off by heading to the voting booths to vote for our next president of the United States.
(Lots of big things happen on this day in history!)
Afterwards, we went to L.A. and shopped all over the town. Of course my mom said that as her birthday present, she wanted to get everyone else a treat. I scored the coolest fur bomber jacket. Thanks Mom!
We ended our night at Fogo De Chao, with a humongous and delicious dinner!
And of everything Nonnie got, nothing was more special than this handwritten story — copied from a rented book from the library — painstakingly copied by Navy for hours.
From one sweet little girl to the Queen of sweet.
We all love you Mom!
We are all so glad you are healthy!
Here’s to 78 more great years!!!
I don’t think Navy knows how lucky she is to have a homework helper in her own household, who can write/speak/understand Chinese.
But even if she doesn’t know how lucky she is, I do!
