My eyes opened up to this boy who “dressed himself” for church!
How stinking cute is this kid regardless of his belt being too big, and his shirt buttons off by one.
I looked up at him, and said, “Dash, you have never looked so good!”
He was so proud of himself!
What do you do, when all of your best friend’s cousins are in town, and we are stuck at home without them?
You create a secret scavenger hunt for them to all do together.
My kids and I had this idea, and we spent all night making it.
The next morning, the kids and I drove all over their neighborhood to hide the clues.
Then, we delivered our first clue on their doorstep. Their hunt led them all over the place, and the last clue had a filled pinata for them to enjoy.
When we were first creating the scavenger hunt, my kids were so bummed they didn’t get to do it with them, but by the end…it was so cool to see how their views shifted. In the end, each of my kids was way more excited to be doing something nice for someone else, over doing something fun themselves. What started out as a fun idea, turned out to be quite the life lesson for my little family. We all realized that doing things for others, is way more fulfilling than getting something for ourselves. And the best part — my kids were the ones who pointed this little nugget of wisdom!
After bonking into a drawer, Pippi got her first fat lip.
Although the blood scared her half to death, she was really brave and melancholy while getting it all wiped up.
I was sad about the lip — but happy about the 20 minutes of cuddling I got afterward.
Pippi explained to me this morning, that she wants to be the girl who puts the sunblock on everybody.
Because that is a job I am happy to lose — I gave her the block, and walked away.
Scout said it took waaay too long waiting for Pippi!
Our kumquats have been plentiful this year. But little by little they keep disappearing. I questioned the kids a few weeks ago…and apparently they have been good “bombs”. I told them to stop, but they are still missing one by one. So then I asked again.
Take a closer look at this photo for a clue…
Do you see it?
Have you figured it out?
My little Pippi seems to have taken a liking to kumquats, and she has been eating one each time she passes the tree!
I was fine with eating them — just not bombing them!
When I was little, I took a sewing camp. This many years later…the daughters of the girl I took from, are now teaching the same camp. I enrolled Navy, and she could not be more excited to be in it! She and I went to pick out fabrics for her projects….and I have never seen her more in her element. I think she loves the discipline, but also creating at the same time!
The other kids wanted to go a little early to see what she was up to. I told them they could watch, but to stand back to not distract.
But Pippi couldn’t contain herself.
She was way too fascinated!
Dash expressed an interest in baseball this morning, so Scout made it happen. Scout gave Dash his old uniform, and even his gear. After getting all geared up, Scout took Dash to Thein Park to play ball! They tried a little catch, and even a little batting. Dash came home on top of the world. And as of today…he is going to be a professional ball player!
Our family has been frequenting Doheny lately. Scout has taken up a love of surfing, and with some shade — I love to watch my three others play. Navy is my best beach player — she can search for treasures in the sand and rocks for hours. But today…I think she may have been contemplating a new adventure. I don’t give it much time, before she is out there in the water with Scout.
After Dash got out of the pool — with his busted chin that was superglued, I was telling him how much I love all of his boy beauty marks. I told him that beyond freckles, like Scout and I have, there is an upgrade — beauty marks! I told him that he has about six, and that might be a record in the state of California for a boy.
Then he reminded me of the one in his ear!
SEVEN!
That is definitely a record!
Nonnie always wanted a girl who loved dolls. It was never me, and Navy was my style. But Pippi…oh Pippi! Not only does Pippi love dolls…she has become the best little Mama to these dolls! And if her interaction with her dolls is any indication of how she will be as a real mom…she is going to be the best Mama out there.
