What do you do, when all of your best friend’s cousins are in town, and we are stuck at home without them?
You create a secret scavenger hunt for them to all do together.
My kids and I had this idea, and we spent all night making it.
The next morning, the kids and I drove all over their neighborhood to hide the clues.
Then, we delivered our first clue on their doorstep. Their hunt led them all over the place, and the last clue had a filled pinata for them to enjoy.
When we were first creating the scavenger hunt, my kids were so bummed they didn’t get to do it with them, but by the end…it was so cool to see how their views shifted. In the end, each of my kids was way more excited to be doing something nice for someone else, over doing something fun themselves. What started out as a fun idea, turned out to be quite the life lesson for my little family. We all realized that doing things for others, is way more fulfilling than getting something for ourselves. And the best part — my kids were the ones who pointed this little nugget of wisdom!
