Scout the Escort

img_1304-2014-01-22-at-15-43-19.jpg
Micah works really close to Scout’s school, so if there are times when I have a few minutes to waste, I stop in for a surprise visit.
But now that Scout is older and more responsible, I let him escort Dash or Navy in.
They love to pop in and get treats, and Micah loves seeing them, and I love a few minutes of peace while Pippi sleeps in the back seat.
It was a win win for all involved.
Until I learned from a coworker named Wade Decker that he heard the microwave door open and close a bunch one day.  After wondering what it was, he got up to check it out.  Apparently it was my kids trying to pop their own popcorn.  When he asked if he could help, they agreed because “[their] dad isn’t in his office”.  And when he commented that he was impressed they found the place, Scout explained that it took them a really long time and a few offices before they did.  Upon investigating, I found out that he went to the right place at first, but then left and looked around because Micah wasn’t there so they must have gotten it wrong.  When they came down with a bag of burnt popcorn, I didn’t think much about it except that Micah had blown the popcorn.  Then Scummy called me with “the funniest story from Wade Decker”.  Oh crap!  Looks like I will need to call Micah to make sure he isn’t away at a meeting the next time I let my little guy escort anyone to Daddy’s office!

Dance & Song

img_1301-2014-01-22-at-15-23-43.jpg
I signed Navy up for “Dance and Song”, and she could not have been enrolled in a more fitting class!
They are currently working on a routine where they do a choreographed dance and then sing a bit to “Let it Go” from Frozen.
Did I say Frozen?
Enough said!
This girl is in Heaven!

Snot String

img_1300-2014-01-21-at-11-07-18.jpg
This boy is even smiling when he has the nastiest nose on earth!
I am not sure if I am blinded my a mother’s love, because I still find him as cute as ever with the world’s longest snot string.
But so did Bella, so either we are both blind, or we are both his mother.

Navy’s Birthday at School

ON our way to school the day after Navy’s birthday, we made sure to gussy her up.
We didn’t want anyone to mistake this day for just another day.
img_3332-2014-01-21-at-09-50-46.jpg
So she wore a bright pink crown.
img_1296-2014-01-21-at-09-29-34.jpg
And made sure to buckle up Panda — her new backpack Auggie bought her from the zoo.
Because it was pretty important that Panda, who was carrying all of the blow pop suckers she was going to hand out to her classmates, was really safe!

Navy is Five!

It is absolutely unreal that Navy turned five today.  How this girl is growing so quickly kind of makes me sick!  But we had quite the day (especially after an entire day of sickies) where we celebrated until late into the night.
img_1256-2014-01-20-at-05-13-51.jpg
It all started off at 4:30 am when I surprised Navy in the “middle of the night” for a mommy and me date to donuts.
img_1258-2014-01-20-at-05-27-37.jpg
All of my kids love a night time donut run, and she has been asking for one for a long time — so jumped right up when I woke her.
After she picked out a donut for herself and everyone at home, she and I sat in the car as I told her about the day, five years before, when she came into my life as “the cleanest baby ever”!
Then I told her my five favorite things about her, and then we both went into the warm house and went back to bed.
img_3169-2014-01-20-at-15-12-52.jpg
Then this girl wanted to spend the day with cousins at the zoo.
So we met up with the Brockbanks and had a super fun day!
img_3129-2014-01-20-at-14-11-08.jpg
Foot massages.

Shoulder Rides.

Cousins!

Checking out who knows what?

Hanging with the hippos — the best attraction of the day for the second zoo visit in a row.

The hummingbird whose life I saved.
A group of Chinese tourists actually applauded me when I finally got this bird to safety.

These besties.

This tired little one as the day wore on.

Nothing a stroller ride couldn’t cure.
Apparently this was one great stroller ride because Dash conked out!
img_1286-2014-01-20-at-17-23-05.jpg
And the icing on Navy’s cake today was when Auggie told her she got to pick something from the gift shop.
I poo poo’d this backpack, but she loved it and Auggie ignored me!

After a long day of walking around, we headed to Bluewater for a yummy dinner with everyone.
Let’s just say it did not disappoint.
-
And then it was time to head home where Micah had a surprise waiting….

…with a homemade cake made by him (with purple “Frozen” cake)…
img_1290-2014-01-20-at-20-19-12.jpg
…that was dug into immediately!
-
I don’t think that anything we could have done that day would have beat out a day with cousins at the zoo, except possibly Frozen with the cousins.
-
Happy Birthday to the spiciest/sweetest little 5-year-old girl in town!

Sick Boys

Both of my boys woke up sick this morning.  It started with Dash feeling warm, and being as whiny as ever.  I took his temp, and it was 102.  So back to bed he went.  And then poor little Scout started saying his eyes hurt by the middle of the day.  Soon after he had a 101.2 temp.  Good thing Nurse Navy and Mommy took over.  We took temps, made food, handed over the remote, made sick beds, etc.
At the end of our shift together, we talked about our two patients.
img_3093-2014-01-19-at-15-16-28.jpg
Patient 1 was as good as gold.
He never asked for anything, and just kept staying upbeat through chills and hot flashes.
He would try to be part of what was going on in the household, and before we knew it he was gone.
He kept ending up in different beds throughout the house back asleep.
img_3095-2014-01-19-at-15-21-06.jpg
The few times he could bear to eat, he asked for toast with butter and honey.
He would eat half, go back to bed, and wake up later to finish it off.
His constant rest had him feeling a bit better by nightfall.
And the next morning, he was all better.
So good, that he was up at 6:00am, got himself bathed and dressed, and came to find me to tell me he was ready for the day!
Clearly, he was sick of being cooped up!
img_3096-2014-01-19-at-15-21-51.jpg
Patient 2 left lots of room for improvement.
He drank like a camel all day long, and the second he was finished with his Gatorade, he demanded more.
He whined about EVERYTHING!
He threw a few tantrums, but even when sick, Mama doesn’t do tantrums.
His saving grace was that he went to sleep without a fight.
img_3097-2014-01-19-at-16-21-11.jpg
But when he was up again, he had a torrential tantrum when the “Blue IPad” was out of batteries.
I plugged it in to charge it, and five minutes later, he found it and pulled it out to play with it again.
Then ten minutes later — when the batteries were out again….you guessed it!
Tantrum central.
When night time came, Nurse Navy and I were thrilled to get him to bed.
Good thing he went happily, and slept like a champ throughout the night.

The moral of this story….
Scout is uncommonly good for a sick male.
Dash is right there with the rest of all males.

Family Bed Including Dash

The kids and I (Micah is out of town at a soccer tournament) decided to do a family bed, and for the first time ever, Dash was invited to stay all night.
img_3088-2014-01-17-at-20-04-18.jpg
Luckily he proved he has calmed down from the last time we tried it with him, and it was a success.
img_3090-2014-01-17-at-20-05-19.jpg
We watched a movie, and all of the kids were as perfect as can be.
(Minus the Pips who was put into her bed about 25 minutes in.)
img_3091-2014-01-18-at-00-06-50.jpg
About midnight I felt a bit squished and got up for a bit.
My spot was between Navy and Dash on the bright pink pillow.
img_3092-2014-01-18-at-07-30-00.jpg
Can you imagine how contorted I was by the morning when I heard the Pips crying for her morning appetizer.

Movies With Anna

Grandma always takes the kids on a special date for their birthday.  This year, she and Navy decided on going to see Frozen at the theater.  This would be Navy’s third time seeing it, which had Grandma worried.  But I knew that Navy would love nothing more than to see her favorite movie star of all time — Anna — once again.
When Grandma picked her up, she had a few presents for Navy.
img_3080-2014-01-17-at-13-47-08.jpg
And you can’t imagine how thrilled Navy was to get her very own Anna costume!
Grandma had already asked for her hair to be in braids, so she was all set.
img_3085-2014-01-17-at-13-51-36.jpg
Off they went on their birthday date, and Navy got to do whatever she wanted.
So they:
Went to the park
Went to the movie
Looked at the animals at Zoomars
Painted her nails
Colored
Went to Beach Cities Pizza for breadsticks
Clearly…it was sort of a birthday dream for this almost 5 year old!

Harbor Walks

My view lately:
img_1249-2014-01-17-at-16-47-52.jpg
img_1250-2014-01-17-at-17-04-02.jpg
Not too shabby checking out the water and boats at the harbor while I walk with my two youngest in the double stroller.
img_1251-2014-01-17-at-17-11-00.jpg
But my favorite scenery is the silhouette of Scout against the amazing sunset.

Too Fast

img_3079-2014-01-15-at-19-24-19.jpg
This boy is growing up WAY TOO FAST!
He informed me that eating an apple hurt his teeth because he has another wiggly one on the top, and another on the bottom.
What a joke!
And after inspecting his mouth, he was correct about the two wigglies.
And he has his tooth growing in where it got knocked out.
Before I know it, this kid is going to be in braces, graduating from high school, going on his mission, getting married, making me a grandmother….
And just to think I can remember the day he was born like it was yesterday.
(Whoa….I have turned into my mother!)
