Say It Ain’t So

I listened to my messages on my way to pick up Scout from school.
One said, “Hello Mrs. Denison….this is Carol from the nurses office at Scout’s school.  Don’t be alarmed….Scout is okay, but I am just calling to inform you that Scout lost a tooth.  It is a bit bloody, but he seems fine.  I just felt like you needed to be notified because a girl kicked it out at recess.”
Are you kidding me!
Seriously!

When I picked up this boy, he was grinning from ear to ear without his two front teeth.
This time it was a second grader named “Nora”.  I was annoyed he was playing boys vs. girls again, but he told me that he wasn’t!  He was actually just playing chase.  And there was a boys team and a girls team.  (HUH?)  Anyway, Nora was coming down the “twisty thing” and he was at the bottom, and when he tried to tag her, she started kicking.  And when she kicked, he got tagged in the mouth - and his tooth went flying.  And when he went to find it, it was lost in the sand.  I asked him if had learned his lesson by now.  According to him he did, but will still engage in the really fun chasing games at recess.

THat night, he was really concerned about the tooth fairy, because he didn’t have his tooth.
(And he was really upset about the fact that “knocked out teeth” get $6.00 from the Tooth Fairy — A deal she made when she was sure that getting teeth knocked out was a rarity.)
His note said, “”Mrs. Tooth Fairy, I lost my tooth but it fell in the sand.  A girl kicked it out.  I hope you give me money or candy.  Please give me money or candy.”
img_3384-2014-01-29-at-21-44-34.jpg
The next morning, he received $2.00 and this note.
“Dear Scout, I am sorry to hear you got another tooth knocked out by a girl.  I think you need to learn the art of dodging.  I can’t give you $6 for getting a tooth knocked out because I don’t have your tooth for my jewelry line.  Here is $2.  Love, T.F.”

So that is where all of the teeth go.

Before Preschool

Navy, Dash and the Pips have some sweet moments before preschool on the days we aren’t rushing.
img_3363-2014-01-29-at-10-11-15.jpg
This day, Navy made a cake on the IPad with Dash.
img_3381-2014-01-29-at-19-37-47.jpg
And then Dash insisted on holding the Pips and giving her a plug.
-
And then we were all off….

Night Terrors

img_3361-2014-01-28-at-23-24-12.jpg
Shoot me now if Dash is getting night terrors.
But when he mentioned the dog from Sandlot, I felt a bit guilty.
I guess I might be the culprit on this one.
I had absolutely NO recollection of how terrifying he was.
Or how advanced that movie was for my kids.
I broke my own rule of only G’s.
Never again in the near future!

Tagging

img_1333-2014-01-27-at-16-26-12.jpg
Navy has taken up tagging lately.
She was bummed when she had to give Dash back his red scooter, even though “[her] name is on it!”
I told her that possession nor written name are nine tenths the law.
But that in our household, what mom says is ten tenths the law!

Walking to Karate

img_1319-2014-01-27-at-15-31-44.jpg
We had a bit of extra time today, so we decided to take a walk down to karate.
img_1324-2014-01-27-at-15-36-12.jpg
But there were a LOT of diversions.
img_1328-2014-01-27-at-15-40-15.jpg
Like stopping to blow the flowers.
img_1331-2014-01-27-at-15-41-27.jpg
Or scaling a wall.
-
Good thing we allotted more than enough time to walk the mile.
Cause it ended up taking us over 45 minutes.

Student of the Week

img_3354-2014-01-26-at-21-04-45.jpg
I think I get as excited as Scout does when he gets Student of the Week.
I love putting together a poster with him of his favorite things.
After we were finished, I asked, “Does everyone’s look as good as yours?”
His answer….”Well, everyone else just brings in a paper with some things they write on it.”
Whoops…missed the directions on that one.

Sunday Fun

I hate being away from my kids — even if it is only for 30 hours.
That being said, I was happy to have a Sunday with them where we spent the whole afternoon hanging out and doing fun things.
So after church, we had a snack and then set up for painting.
img_3336-2014-01-26-at-16-50-28.jpg
Navy got a birdhouse for her birthday, and I happened to have two other mini ones, so we got them painted and out on our front tree.
img_3340-2014-01-26-at-17-02-04.jpg
This girl is detail oriented.
She takes her time, and likes to create masterpieces.
img_3344-2014-01-26-at-17-13-58.jpg
This boy is usually a quick and careless artist.
But this time around, he was pretty meticulous.
I told him if he spent that kind of time on his coloring in his English Journal that I correct every week, he wouldn’t get “Crappy Work” written across his picture.
img_3341-2014-01-26-at-17-12-13.jpg
And this boy is just crazy.
He was like a ticking time bomb.
With paint on his hands and brush, I had to watch him like a hawk to protect everything within a three room radius.
-
After we painted our tree houses and got them on our tree, we decided to make chocolate chip cookies.
img_3346-2014-01-26-at-17-45-47.jpg
This boy decided to make them in all sizes.
img_3345-2014-01-26-at-17-45-39.jpg
This girl made a bunch of minis.
img_3349-2014-01-26-at-17-48-15.jpg
And this stinker — well, he just ate every bit of dough I gave him.
-
Have I ever said that Sunday is the best day of the week?
It’s the best!

Addict

Dash these days is exhausting.
He still charms everyone like crazy, but his flaw has been rearing its ugly head for about three months.
My boy is ADDICTED to all things electronic.
Doesn’t he know the drill?
“Television makes your brain dumb.”
“Why play a game on the screen when you can actually go outside and play for real?!”
I despise seeing kids with their faces buried in screens!
DESPISE!
But I have my work cut out for me.
This boy wakes up from the night or a nap asking for the blue IPad.
When I say no, he asks for the black one.
When I say no, he gets smart and stops asking and swiped someone phone and hides.
Then we get in the car, and he tantrums it up to watch television.
Then he asks anyone who comes over to “watch da puter”.
It is a joke!
img_1282-2014-01-20-at-16-37-57.jpg
Good thing he still has one addiction that trumps all others.
His DayDay and his fingers.
Because after a few of these tantrums he has thrown lately, he really tires himself out!

Snaggle

img_3353-2014-01-26-at-18-03-34.jpg
This boy knows how anti I am about him losing teeth.
But even I am about ready for this hanger to come out.
And if you’ll notice — there is a little peek of Scout’s new tooth where his other was kicked out.
So far so good….I think it looks white and not grey!
Let’s hope.

A Night Away

For Christmas, Trilby and my Mom had Micah and my names.  They collaborated and got us a night away at the Park Hyatt Aviara in San Diego, with all of the kids watched.  There is nothing more we could have loved.  We headed down Friday afternoon and walked into a really nice resort.
img_1306-2014-01-24-at-16-35-58.jpg
Our room was nice and big — and really clean!
img_1312-2014-01-25-at-10-00-29.jpg
And our view was beautiful.
-
but seeing as I am not one to just hang in a hotel room for long, we made arrangements to meet up with Megan and Bryan to head out to a delicious dinner, and then get over to K2 for some racing.
img_1310-2014-01-24-at-19-22-57.jpg
We all went to “Market” and had an amazing three course meal.
My albacore tar tar was amongst my favorites.
-
Then after we were as full as you can imagine, we went to K2 racing.
I was talking so much smack, because I knew I would wipe Micah out.
Unfortunately, the end scores that were posted for all to see made me eat my words.
I seriously don’t understand?
He looked like he was just cruising around, while I was whipping around every corner like a speed demon!
To make it interesting, we put a little wager on the race.
Everyone put in $10, and winner took all.
Congrats B.
-
That night we went home sore and edified.
But right as we were closing our eyes, I had a tooth start to give me problems.
Too bad for me that it was giving me real problems….4 Advil problems.
-
I finally fell asleep, and slept in until 10am.
After we got up and got dressed, we headed down to one of the best sushi lunches I’ve ever had.
It is a tiny shop with an old married couple making the sushi.
The word is that if you don’t get there within an hour or two after they open at 10:30, they sell out and close their doors.
Micah and I sat down to eat some of it, and it was so fresh and delicious.
-
Then we packed up some of it, stopped for a Big Gulp and headed to the movies for a few back to back good ones.
Jack Ryan was great — full of action and a good story line.
Saving Mr. Banks was great, but an emotional roller coaster.
And let’s just say that I am not the only one who had red eyes leaving that film.
-
Finally before we headed home, we stopped at one more place to eat some yummy food - Pamplemousse.
The food was good, but not like the night before.
-
We literally had the funnest time together.
We didn’t have any cares but each other.
It was a blast.
But we were quickly back to reality when we called Dr. J. Packer and he said he would meet us at his office that night for an emergency root canal.
Nothing like a root canal with your husband as the assistant to get a girl out of “carefree” mode!
