This summer’s theme….
is
Work Hard, Play Hard.
(Work Lazy, Play Lazy.)
So far so good….
It is day one, and I gave them the rundown of things we are going to do each day we are home.
-

(Bed Made, Room Cleaned, Family Night Room Cleaned, Hall Cleaned)
Morning Drill
(Teeth, bath, dressed)
30 Minutes Reading
Organize something
(cupboard, drawer, closet)
Exercise
Educational Activity
(Writing, science, art)
Scriptures
-
Once done…and done well….we will play hard!
—-
After the kids got ready, I had them tidying up their beds and the upstairs as I ran to get a prescription.
When I cam eback, they had already dug into the pajama drawer that we were going to be organizing.
It was amazing what was stuffed in there!
After, we had an entire donation bag, and a fuller than I wanted pajama drawer.
(It is a community drawer, so we did have to keep four kid’s pajamas.)
—
After that, we read, cleaned more, memorized a scripture, picked up, and made our way to part two of the day…
PLAYING HARD!
We stopped off at Yogurtland to meet Britni, and convince her to let us take Grey.
Then it was off to Big Air!
(We were paying off our present to Seth and Cade.)
Talk about playing hard!
Then we went to Krispy Kreme to watch the donuts being made, and they each got to have one.
And in reverse order….
And because Dash asked for a BandAid because his tummy hurt….
(I guess we forgot to eat hard!)
The six crazies and I went to Outback Steakhouse to finish off our night.
-
Summer….I am so so so happy you are here!
As soon as I picked Scout up for the last time this year…I felt a heavy weight lift from my shoulders!
we went home, changed, and headed straight to RoRo’s beach for a day of nothing!
The four oldest played in the waves together for a few hours.
They are so awesome together, and have a blast!
THey would go in the waves, then make sand dogs, then make forts, and head back out to the water again.
All while Dash snoozed for three hours!
(Pippi snoozed also, but downstairs in the dark guest room…where I wasn’t about to let a flash wake her.)
And when the kids were sun drunk, RoRo and Scout came in and played Lego’s for a while before relaxing to a movie.
But where were Navy and Grey you ask???
They stayed back and held hands in the waves.
The never-ending year has finally come to a close!
Hallelujah!
On our way out, I snapped a picture of Scout with his awesome teacher, Mrs. Komine.
We are crossing our fingers that she moves up with the class!
PLEASE!
She was strict, no-nonsense, demanding, and good.
She always had the boy-heavy class completely following the rules.
She loved Scout, but didn’t put up with silliness.
I got an Email one day from a fellow classmate’s mom about how sorry they were that Scout’s paper was ripped up in front of the class because it was sloppy. And was he okay?
I never even heard about the incident, and when I asked Scout about it, he said, “yeah….she thought it was sloppy, so she made me do it over.”
BRAVO!
My favorite part of Mrs. Komine was that I love that she loved Scout.
She was the first person to defend him when he would get in trouble on the playground….”He is just a boy, and plays the way boys do!”
She was the first person to praise him….every time I would pick him up and she was on duty, she would come to the car to tell me how well Scout was doing and that he is SO smart!
She really does love him.
She told me this a few times, but reiterated it on his graduation poster.
“Thank you for being a student I can always show off to our visitors!”
She told me over and over how well Scout was doing in Mandarin, but specifically….that any time a visitor would come to observe the class, she would call on Scout, because she new he would have the right answer each time.
Mrs. Komine….fight like the dickens to move up.
And if you don’t…try to move down to Kindergarten to get Navy!
Carruthy is out of town, so we made a call to Dr. Millard. He checked out a rash on her buns that I diagnosed as Impetigo. Good thing I was wrong, and it is just a rash at her hair follicles that she has spread through scratching. No biggie — a steroid cream was prescribed, and we called it a day.
But not until Navy got to pet his bunny, check out his fish, and hold his bird.
As we left…she said that she really liked Dr. Millard.
And I am guessing that a lot of it had to do with all of his feathered/furry friends.
Scout’s end of year party was for the birds. (I’d like to mention that this is the one party of the year that I don’t put on.) It was supposed to be a huge water party, and the kids were all supposed to come in their bathing suits. The “water” was comprised of 12 wet sponges and 20 water balloons between 60 kids.
Yep…lame.
Just take a look at my kids mid-party!
-
But as we walked away, and Scout was complaining, I used it as a great opportunity to teach him that things are what you make of them.
And even though the party was boring, it was up to him to create the fun.
Then he told me that he did exactly that.
He was climbing trees with Navy, when the other teacher blew her whistle, lectured them about the danger involved and gave them a 5 minute “bench”.
I couldn’t argue with his point, so we walked away and agreed that I should be in charge of that party next year.
Scout and Dash helped Navy clean up a huge paint mess she made.
They were working really cute together, and taking shifts.
Then they spotted me with my telephoto lens.
And got obnoxious.
-
Go back to cleaning!
Navy has been practicing for her play for about two months, and tonight we saw it all come together.
She did a really good job!
She had personality, she was loud enough and she didn’t get stage fright!
She was Little Elsa, and a Lady in Waiting and part of the background.
She was kind of in her element.
Her brothers and sister were having a fun time watching her.
And when Pippi got fussy, Micah calmed her with a Snickers.
She was so proud of herself!
And I was proud of all of these littles she did it with.
Nice work Navy!
Little Elsa came down and presented her sister…Little Anna.
And then she asked for a photo shoot.
I had to go to Trader Joes.
On the way there, I heard Dash announce, “Mommy, I won’t eat those again.”
And then turned to see that he had quietly eaten all of the peanut butter M&M’s we were saving for Papa.
And on the way home he announced, “Mommy, dis is pretty.”
Yeah…pretty messy.
Navy’s writing has come a long way this year.
And so has her sounding out/spelling.
Because it is pretty clear to me that Mom, None, Dad, Scout, Dash and Navy “is HOT”!
(Pippi made the back.)
