After a really long week, I put Dash to bed last night. When I did, I realized that I had pulled out the two pink DayDay’s. (All of my kids have the exact same blanket….a blue each for the boys, and a pink each for the girls.) All four DayDay’s were in the car from the road trip, and it was dark when I grabbed them out. As I tucked him in, and put his DayDay’s around him, he said, “Hey….dese are not mine! Dese da pink ones.” My exhaustion level took over, and I told him that I was going to wash his, but the pink ones were clean. He is so sweet that he went right to bed.

This morning, I heard little feet coming my way. I was surprised that they never quite made it, because I was guessing it was Dash’s footsteps, and wanted to see if I was right. I waited a few more seconds, and then I heard the sound the dryer makes when the door is opened. My heart kind of melted….he was looking for his clean DayDays. I ran out and asked him what he was doing. He said, “Mama…..where my cwean DayDays?” I told him they were still in the car, and that I was going to wash them today. Then he said, “Maybe we could go and get dem so I could have dem before they get washed.”
So I grabbed my keys, and we went out to get his dirty DayDay’s for him to snuggle with.
Our last stop on our road trip was Auggie’s house.
Obviously my kids were in heaven when I told them!
Some highlights….
Sleepovers with cousins.
Doggy kisses.
(Anything but a highlight in my book!)
Tired mom saggy diapers.
Swimming and more swimming and more.
And Pippi’s first licorice from a mystery guest with very recognizable hands.
….you just got to go!
I woke up Monday morning, found a good hotel in Palm Springs, packed my kids up…and we were off.
It was four days full of fun.
Roadtrips, outlets, hotel, ducks, lazy river, sand toys, movies, searching for golf balls, restaurants, trams, hiking and Auggie’s house.
It was packed in.
But the true test of it being worth it was passed.
As we were packing up to leave….my kids were going crazy that we should stay just “one more day!”
And Dash used his favorite number seven while he begged for “Peeease….just seven more days!”
The morning duck feed.
Pool Time.
Arts and Crafts.
Navy spent 45 minutes drawing her masterpiece, “My Family Love Navy”.
Searching for golf balls — they ended up with 18!
The intense 110 degrees!
The movie break from the heat.
The Palm Springs Tram.
The seating arrangement that finally worked for Dash.

And last but not least….
The perfect traveler.
Even a sandy face didn’t get this girl down!
The kid’s quiet time was particularly quiet. Quiet enough that I had to check up on them. And when I did, I realized that they got into my sticker cupboard and had all of them out and were going to town. At first, I was so annoyed. But quickly realized that the reason I have those stickers is for my kids to have fun. So I told them to enjoy, and then to clean every last bit of it up.
And they did!
It only took me three times of checking it for them to get it right….but they did.
When you see Navy in her undies and the Pips in a fancy outfit….there is only one explanation.
They just came home from church.
And clearly, Navy must have learned something about being sweet while in primary.
But to be fair….she is always sweet to her Sissy.
It’s those boys that bring out the stink in her.
This morning, we checked off 24 scriptures, read for 30 minutes, cleaned out the baking cupboard, cleaned the house, did a bit of art, and now it was time to exercise.
We incorporated our exercise into our “play hard” portion of the day, and “hiked” to Britni’s house.
We parked on PCH, got out our scooters, loaded the stroller, and headed off on our 4 mile “hike”.
My view for most of the day.
Scout is my treasure/trash collector.
From far away, I could see he had found something and was totally excited about it.
I really thought he found a dollar on the ground, but as I got closer, he was stoked to show me, “a ball AND the ball’s skin!”
We kept it for a bit, but I told him I thought bugs might be living in it, so we got to chuck it.
After four miles, we walked a bit past Brit’s house to Ellie’s Table for cookies for the crew.
We found a huge and shady grass area and had a picnic of cookies and kale salad.
Then it was off to Brits.
The kids stripped down and got in the water with Grey for half an hour.
We loaded up on more snacks, and then headed back for another four miler.
I was decently wiped by the end because I chose the short cut strolling through the sand for a mile.
But it was a great adventure.
And the silver lining to it all…the penny we put on the train tracks that got smashed!
(Shown: the real penny, and the other ‘penny’ that Navy tried to convince us was hers.)

I’m liking these Work Hard/Play Hard days.
Guess who is sleeping in the same pink curlers I slept in as a little girl.
And guess who is setting her hair each night. Hint: it’s not me!
And yes….the licking method is still going strong!
Dash has been on fire lately with naughty words.
His favorite word — by a long shot — is poop!
Everything is poop.
Just this morning, I had a conversation with him.
He said, “I’m going to frow poop on you.”
I told him that isn’t a word we say.
Then he said, “Den I frow potty on you.”
Again, not something we say.
Then he told me, “Den I gunna burp on you!”
Nope.
Finally, “Mama…I gunna frow dese fings on you, and den scare you yike a monster.”
I told him if he did, or kept talking like that, I was going to “frow” him in time out.
Then he said, “No Mama, I be nice. Cuz you are bootiful and gorgeous.”
And then he coyly grinned ear to ear.
Day three of summer, and my list is still intact.
Thirty minutes of reading time….check.
When I walked in and noticed the light was good, reading time became an impromptu photo shoot.
Poor little Pips has been teething for four months — or so I always think.
Basically “teething” has been the catch all for anytime she has a fussy day.
But so far….no teeth.
But I would way rather blame this grumpy face on some new teeth.
It’s much better than accepting that on some days, she is just a grump.
