You know it is going to be a long night, when your six year old is sound asleep before getting ready to go Trick or Treating.
She finally rallied, and the three youngest were getting all gussied up, when Scout came in and asked where his costume was. What??? He was very clear to me that he wasn’t going to dress up with the family this year. But now — 15 minutes before Trick or Treating — he decided he wanted to. i told him he was out of luck and to go grab something from the costume cupboard. He then locked himself in his room, while he created his costume. Right on the dot of us leaving … he came out as a greaser! I was really impressed! Good job Scout.
Meanwhile, Navy was the BEST devil! Pippi was the sweetest angel. And Dash was the cutest curly-haired cupid!
The night was a success!
As was the candy sorting and trading!
Happy Halloween!
When we have to wait for Scout to get out of school — and we have an hour and a half to kill…we usually grab a bite to eat somewhere we can do homework. Every once in a while, I splurge, and take them to the Nordstrom Cafe. But to be honest — I splurge on the location, not on the meal. Like today, I ordered one kid’s meal for them all to share. It is a cup of soup, a full grilled cheese sandwich, and a bowl of fruit. So they each get 1/3 of the sandwich with some soup to dip it in, and a few grapes. I think that is fine! They did NOT! I kept reminding them that this was a snack, and not a meal. But they just grumbled over and over that they were starving!
The waitress must have felt for them, because she brought out two plates of extra bread sticks for them to munch on!
Oh brother!!! But they were LOVING the waitress! And so was I!
But they still grumbled!
Especially when Nonnie showed up with a plate full of food for herself! Look at Navy!!!
Unbeknownst to Nonnie…the kids were still “starving”!
As soon as she realized what was going on, she handed Navy her credit card and told her to go get more food…all while rolling her eyes at me!
When Navy got the card…all three kids celebrated!
Oh brother!!!
The puzzle game is still going strong in our household. And the ringleader…is always the puzzle master…Dash the Man!
Pippi’s bed head was looking good this morning. It matched her sour expression!
Today was the most beautiful fall day — so we took the babies down to Baby Beach. Navy was in Heaven, while she had the twinners all to herself. They followed her everywhere, and Navy was like the mother duck, with her two little quackers following behind. She taught them how to make sand castles, sit safely in the water, and make a sandball.
Meanwhile, my two littlest quackers…were making “meatballs”. Then they made a meatball jail!

I think my favorite kind of day, is the beautiful sunny day when nobody is at the beach — so we get it all to ourselves. I sit under my umbrella and read, while the kids play so happily. And when I look up, I pause to take in the beautiful scenery…and all of my little ducks…all in a row!
It takes a village…
To raise these two for a month!
Dash turned eight today! Where has the time gone? This boy has turned into the sweetest boy, who still loves to suck his fingers, still loves his blankets — all four of them, begs to sleep each night with Nonnie, is squirly at all times, is always game to be Pippi’s student or Scout’s wrestling mate, loves games, adores his mama and potty talk!
I call him my “Little Apple Dumpling” and he HATES it!
But I secretly think My Little Apple Dumpling loves it!
When he was getting his presents today, Scout surprised him with something. Scout has been planning this surprise for a long time, and paid for it 100% with his own money. THat is saying something, because Scout doesn’t spend his money on anything!
Dash was pretty excited!
Especially when Scout bought him something he has wanted for a long time!!!
But I honestly don’t know who is more excited — Dash to get it, or Scout to give it. Whomever it was — it was a sweet moment!

Dash is so excited to turn eight! But I kind of wish I could turn back time, and celebrate number eight in a few years! Time is going way too fast!
Happy Birthday my little Dumpling.
We weren’t expecting to have the twins for Halloween festivities, so today was all about running around town to get costumes for the twins and my kids.
There was only one request — Dash wanted to be Bruce Lee in the yellow outfit.
I am usually very resourceful, but figuring out the “yellow outfit” was impossible. I tried to dissect other costumes, create something out of plain yellow clothes — honestly, I tried everything, and it just wasn’t working.
Plan B.
After hours of looking for yellow, with an hour left, I decided to use some angel wings I had at home for the twins — and they were going to be cherubs. My other angel wings could be used by Pippi to be an angel with her white leotard. I grabbed a halo — just in case. And Dash??? I had one more set of angel wings, but knew he wouldn’t want to be an angel….
BUT WOULD HE GO FOR CUPID?
My kids are always rad about being shameless…so I got him a bow and arrow and a white cloth for his “diaper”…and committed to the theme.
These two turned into perfect little cherubs.
Pippi was the perfect angel.
And guess who was totally excited about his outfit — curled hair and all!
Navy found stuff to be a devil — and completed the whole crew! I mean…for last minute…this ain’t bad!
The best part…
When we got to the trunk or treat, Dash saw a bunch of buddies from school. A gourp of four of his classmates dressed up as Transformers and Karate kids went up to him and asked, “Dash…what are you?” while they were kind of laughing at him. He looked at them, and said, “I am cupid…the God of Love! What are YOU!” Then walked off proudly! That’s my boy!
It was a really fun night…
But this crew of kids was beat by about 11:00.
Like usual, our primary program was phenomenal!
Mostly because of the bomb singing leader.
And also because of her star singer — who was singing so loud, multiple people sent me a video of him afterwards…because they couldn’t get over how hilarious Dash was! Did I mention that he DABBED at the end of his talk! Scout kept urging him to do it from our seats…and he did it!!! I was humiliated….but laughing at the same time!
Navy had to fill in for someone at the last minute, and it was a tiny rough…but after learning it in a minute or two, she knocked it out of the water!
And of course — Pippi had a really long part, and stole the show. She was so sinking good, and impressed everyone with how long it was.
It was a great Sunday! Thanks Nonnie.
(Update: This will be Nonnie’s last primary program, because she was released in February after 18 years on and off! Everyone is devastated — especially the parents of young kids, who want their kids to have Nonnie!!!)
When my three oldest went to Time Out, they sat there patiently until they were allowed out. Somehow the rules of Time Out are overlooked by Pippi. She bugs and bugs until she thinks she gets to get out. Do you see her little tongue sticking out, while she repeatedly is knocking on the door? Yep…she doesn’t think the rules apply to her!
Good thing when I moved her to her bed, I couldn’t see the tongue, or hear the knocking.
No problem Pips…if you don’t like the rules…I will just change them up a bit and relocate Time Out.
