I have a sister in law, who makes her boys sit when they use the toilet. I thought that was a bit overkill until recently. My boys have great aim — or great cleaning skills…not sure which.
That is, until the last few weeks.
When I happened upon this scene, I think I figured out the problem.
I am literally living in the “good ‘ol days”.
Today’s weather was glorious, so naturally, we headed down to Doheny with surfboards.
Life is really great right now, because every kid enjoys the beach, and they can all carry their own stuff!
Game Changer!
It was about the lowest tide I have seen in a long time.
So my kids took turns surfing and treasure hunting.
My kids caught everything — starfish, octopus, and even a fish!
Oh yeah — and the world’s largest sea slug I have ever seen!
A month or so ago, Bergeson made a rule that there would not be anymore Pokemon trading during pick up. My kids were furious. I personally thought it was a little ridiculous too–seeing as they spend six straight hours in Mandarin Chinese. But in the end, I told my kids that rules are rules.
You can imagine my surprise, when I went to pick up the kids, and Scout’s back was to me…and I could clearly tell that there was some wheeling and dealing going on.
You guessed it…Pokemon trading.
Scout got himself a pocket-sized Pokemon holder, and her is the full blown ringleader of the after school Pokemon trading.
You don’t say.
Did I get him in trouble, or give him a secret thumbs up???
I plead the fifth.
Scout has been on a reading kick this year, and it has been awesome! In english this year, he was asked to make a game board based on one of his favorite books. He obviously chose Percy Jackson, and caem up with a great game. Clearly, he had me help him draw on the board, but apparently, when they went to school to play each other’s game, his was a hit. I’ll attest to the fact that it was good, because he had the family play it before he turned it in, and it was a well thought out, and creative game!
Scout..you nailed it!
For Family Night tonight, we did something really cool.
Since our kitchen is being remodeled, we decided that before they put the countertops on, we would write words that described the family we want to be.
Some of my favorite words were
Kind
Happy
Daring
Fun
CTR
Fabulous
Nice
Busy
Legit
-
BUT OF EVERYTHING WRITTEN…MY FAVORITE BY FAR WAS
Dash, who sounded out Sacrificing.
It was the sweetest word, and his hard work to figure out how to write it was to die for!
And yes, I hope our family is sacrificing of our time, abilities and talents for those who need it, and especially for one another.
Lastly, we all traced our hand prints.
I tried to tie in “Many hands make light work”, but I had lost them by now!
(And even though I don’t want to mention it, at the beginning of this “art installation” Scout was being totally obnoxious, and was drawing annoying things. (Think booty) We changed them into flowers, but it was NOT a nice start to our Family Night. Good thing he shaped up quickly, and wrote “awesome” and “cool” before I made him write sentences on the top left quadrant!)

Good thing we got our family night in, because first thing this morning….check out what covered it!
After a full afternoon with friends at the Zimmerman’s house, they hosted an insane Easter Egg hunt! I’m talking over a thousand eggs! And not only were there tons…they were full of rad stuff! Lots had raffle tickets for a raffle later, and tons had money. And then there were the final eggs. The ones that had $20 - $50 dollar bills. The whole gang of 50 kids were looking ferociously for those. None of my kids were lucky enough to find them…but there was one final egg. Mike had all of the kids on the other side of the pool. When he said are you ready, unbeknownst to them, he threw it in the pool. All of the kids were in shock as to what to do, except two kids. One was an 11 year old boy, and the other was Dash.
Dash jumped in the pool so fast to get the egg, it was impressive. Unfortunately, the 11 year old boy was a faster swimmer.
I’ve got to be honest, I was so impressed with his quick reflexes. While every other kid was still digesting what had happened, Dash was already half way to the egg.
It was actually awesome.
(But also a bit of insight into why he might be King BooBoo! Acting before thought???!!!)
Recently, Pippi discovered the scooter.
She also discovered that it gives her some new freedom she hasn’t ever experienced before.
So every afternoon after Dash gets out fo School, the first question I get is, “Mom, can Dash and I go out on our scooters?”
Then they pack up a little picnic, and scooter all over our cul de sac, before stopping on our neighbor’s lawn for their after school snack.
They have a blast doing it…they literally giggle and make plans the whole time.
And when it is time for the to get in the car to get the big kids from school, they both grumble and complain that I ruined their fun!
Pippi was going out for the day, and needed to see which glasses I thought would complete her outfit.
She was particularly fond of the flower encrusted sunnies.
But I thought the ethereal gold-rimmed round frames complimented her Tinkerbell costume best.
She ran with her choice.
WOW, does she need to learn a thing or two about style.
Dash’s last front tooth is hanging on by a thread. He wants me to get it so badly, but I told him I am making him keep it in as long as possible. I told him that when his tooth falls out, he is big, and I don’t want him to be big.
He is so cute. He keeps trying to loosen it without me seeing him. He has even asked Navy to help. But I intervene each time…partly because I don’t want it to make him big. But also, because he thinks it is hilarious that I don’t want him to be big, but he wants to be!
In honor of our kids learning the Chinese language, Micah wanted to take the kids to Dim Sum. Each of the kids found something they really liked — even Scout! Scout and Navy both tried out speaking in Chinese, and the waitresses were impressed. Unfortunately, Dash payed the shy card. (Annoying!) Micah obviously loved the food. I was OK with it, until I spotted the spit guards the waitresses were wearing, and then I got so grossed out, I couldn’t manage to eat anything else.
Afterwards, Micah took me to Matteo, where I got some great new bedding for the up and coming new girl’s room.
Then we stopped for ice cream for a treat for the kids.
When we got back to the car…
DISASTER!
Apparently, I had left our “keyless entry” key in the bedding store that was closed for the three day weekend.
THANK GOODNESS I have the nicest sister and mom. As soon as I called, my mom and Trilby were on their way up to LA to bring me my spare key. Can you even imagine how selfless and kind they are!
Meanwhile, our family walked to a pizza store and ate, while the drivers were driving. When they got there, we had a spread of food out for them to enjoy.
Afterwards, we all returned home, and were happy to be at home in our own beds.
Thank Goodness.
