Talk about a slam dunk Mother’s Day this year! After an incredible breakfast in bed, the kids nailed the Mother’s Day program at church — that my mom put together. It was a win-win all around. Pippi even got the “My part is little…and so am I. All I get to say is Bye-Bye.” She was a wild card up on the stand, but she did an awesome job!
Honestly - have I ever said how lucky we all are to live with my mom!
I’m glad there is one day each year that we get to celebrate her.
Have I ever said how lucky my kids are to live with me?
I have over and over — and I think I’m still trying to convince my weasels.
After church, my mom and Trilby and I all sat on the couch with our feet up.
I can literally say, that out of every view on earth — from the Swiss Alps, to the ocean sunsets…this is my favorite view.
I can see the tips of my feet that are propped on the coffee table, while all of my loved ones are slaving away for me in the distance.
Unfortunately, the Brockbanks were out of town, so Micah was on his own.
Here is Micah’s list of coordinating the most amazing meal EVER!
It was Beef Tenderloin with Bearnaise sauce, roasted rosemary potatoes, artichokes, chocolate covered strawberries, and a homemade peach crumble. (Might I note — these weren’t canned peaches!)
My husband put it all together, as if it was a symphony on it’s grandest day — with NO MISTAKES!
The kids pitched in where they could — (props to the sous chef - Skylar), and created a beautiful table for us!

It was delicious! AMAZING! Happy Mother’s Day to me! And a special thanks to Micah for becoming the Mother’s Day guru!
I bet most mother’s only get one breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day. Not me! I have the cutest little girl, who made this breakfast toast, with scrambled eggs and crispy cheese that was delish! Then it was followed up by Micah’s breakfast in bed, of my traditional favorite — blueberry muffins…straight out of the box! YYUUUUMMMMMM!
Micah and I were invited to a wedding up past Los Angeles. We went back and forth about going. In the end, we decided to brave Saturday traffic. It was our mistake, because it took us almost 5 hours to get there! I was an absolute nightmare! By the time we finally got there, we were so wiped. But the wedding was fun. When we got into the car to go back, we were a little hesitant, but knew the traffic would be gone. We hopped on the freeway, Micah drove fast in the carpool lane. We were chatting, and having a good time…until I hear Micah yell out “Oh Crap!”
Before I knew it, we had plowed into something on the freeway, and it was big. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw something big and white, and Micah told me that out of nowhere a dog was in the lane next to us, and wandered into our lane within a split second. Micah rammed straight into the poor dog. (We think it was an Ikita who fell from the back of a truck???) As sad as it is, I was so glad he was driving, because we had a favorable outcome. We were safe, our car was trashed…but we were safe. I was so glad he didn’t swerve to the left — because we were next to the wall. And to the right — in our blind spot was another car. So heading straight was our only option.
We got off the freeway to assess the damage. It was substantial, but we figured that without leaks — we could still drive. So we slowly drove home from around LAX.
I hate Los Angeles, and it’s freeways — and this just solidified my hatred!
And I teased Micah that this is the third accident he has been driving my car in…to my zero!
That would be amazing in and of itself, but since I drive 95% of the time - it is even more amazing!
Some of my favorite mornings, are the ones that unfold before my eyes. This early Saturday morning, my kids were stalling out before chores. Instead of putting their shoulder to the wheel, they karate chopped Styrofoam, and Dash played “teacher”. Scout’s karate moves had me in tears, and Dash’s personality had Pippi and I both cracking up.
Now go do your chores!
After a church practice, I was looking for the usual suspects — namely Seth, Cade and Scout. From far away, I could see naughtiness going on, so I drove closer to find the three of them on top of the storage shed in the back of the parking lot. And of course the second I pulled out my camera, they were dabbing!
Lucky me. I was invited to be an honorary guest in Dash’s classroom, at the Mother’s Day Tea.
He sang to me, presented me with a flower barrette, served me “tea” AKA water and treats, and hand made me the most darling place mat.
I am not sure about proper etiquette at a tea, but I stuffed that place mat in my bag, because I wanted it forever. When Dash saw that I was stealing it, he said, “Mom…don’t worry. I made that for you to take home with you. You get to keep it forever.” When I audibly rejoiced, his smile couldn’t have been bigger.
Thanks for the invite Dash. And thanks for the pampering.
When I sent out invitations for a summer “favorite things” party, I knew just the man to help me set up.
My partner in crime has the most amazing talent, and we work so beautifully together.
Flowers — check.
Veggies — check.
Fruits and ginger lemonade — check.
G Funk — I am pretty sure we should go into business together. But then we will set it all up, and then watch the wind blow us in another direction. Then we will have a good laugh, in some really great Bella Notte sheets, while watching a great movie in Britni’s garage! Best Friends FOREVER!
For the first time in my life, we have had a real shark problem in our local beaches. Last week, a lady was bitten by a great white. Just yesterday, they had helicopters above the surfline telling people to leave the water “calmly” due to sharks about ten feet from them. HOLY COW! So this morning, I got the kids up extra early. We headed to donuts, and then to the shark-infested waters. We sat and ate, while we searched for dorsal fins. It was crazy to see the warning signs posted everywhere. After about ten minutes of no sightings, the kids went treasure hunting. We were amazed at the loot the overnight tides brought up.
Scout found a horseshoe.
And our best reasure hunter Navy, found sunglasses and an IPhone.

My guess, is that a man riding a horse in the surf last night heard the helicopter warnings — and jammed out of there so fast, he left all of his personal belongings in his dust.
When Pippi realized that she could see herself on the security camera at the brake shop, she spent the next thirty minutes “seeing herself”. In the meantime, she became great friends with Muhammad behind the front desk, because she could see him too.
Everyone who lives around here, knows that Baja Fish taco is one of the best restaurants in town.
Everyone, except Scout. The boy who insists on my credit card to go to the next-door grocery store to get his own meal. It is usually three peaches, or a few boxes of berries. Today…he went fancy on us, and got blackberries and peanuts.
I have always been a fan of “solve your own problems”, so I applaud him in his solving.
