My Easy-Going Sidekick

After I got her dressed for the day, Pippi wound up in the car to pick up the kids in her pajamas.
We must have been a sight to see, when my friend came to my window to talk to me, and Pippi was sporting PJ’s, a plumber’s crack, and a sucker for lunch.

Fall Leaves

Dash learned a song about fall leaves in school, and has become obsessed.  He and I point out all of the brightly colored leaves all over town.  He was telling me about how his teacher has a relative who lives by really pretty leaves, and that relative sent them to his teacher to show the kids.  So now, I have a fall leaf trip on the books for next year!

In the meantime, he will settle for the leaves in front of his school.
He asks me every day, “Mom, can you wait a little longer, so I can pick up some of the colorful leaves?”
I tell him yes.
And when he looks for a bag to collect them in…

We settle for a McDonald’s Happy Meal box.
I love seeing life through little kid’s eyes…and Dash’s eyes might be the best yet!

These Two

Each morning, before school, Dash gets coaxed into playing Little Critters, magnets, or pattern blocks.
And each morning, they giggle and adore each other.
And when it’s time to take Dashy to school, Pippi insists on going, and calling out goodbye about 40 times.  And Dash returns her gesture each and every time, by a wave or a blown kiss.
These two should be the model for a happily married couple.
If only every wife and husband acted the way they act to each other.

Happy 78th Nonnie!!!!

Seventy Eight years ago, the greatest thing in all of history happened!
And now, 78 years later, we celebrate!

The morning got started off right, when Micah realized the “Happy Birthday” sign wasn’t up for our beloved, so he got it up quickly before Nonnie showed up.

Then it was a girl’s day, where we started off by heading to the voting booths to vote for our next president of the United States.
(Lots of big things happen on this day in history!)
Afterwards, we went to L.A. and shopped all over the town.  Of course my mom said that as her birthday present, she wanted to get everyone else a treat.  I scored the coolest fur bomber jacket.  Thanks Mom!

We ended our night at Fogo De Chao, with a humongous and delicious dinner!

And of everything Nonnie got, nothing was more special than this handwritten story — copied from a rented book from the library — painstakingly copied by Navy for hours.
From one sweet little girl to the Queen of sweet.
We all love you Mom!
We are all so glad you are healthy!
Here’s to 78 more great years!!!

Homework Helper

I don’t think Navy knows how lucky she is to have a homework helper in her own household, who can write/speak/understand Chinese.
But even if she doesn’t know how lucky she is, I do!

Unruly Family Night

Sometimes impromptu stuff is the best stuff.
Kind of like this Family Night, where Micah played with the kids for 45 minutes on our bed.
They might remember some of our lessons, but my guess is that the “Earthquakes” and “Baby Boo” will be remembered more vividly.

Drama

img_5824-2016-11-07-at-17-00-53.jpg
Poor Navy.  I only know this, because I dealt with the exact same thing when Scout turned 8, but she is getting her first little surge of hormones — and WE ALL KNOW IT!  This girl cries at the drop of a dime.  She whines more now, than she ever has.  She is also extremely dramatic over everything.  For a tough girl like Navy, I wasn’t sure that hormones would ever get the best of her…but they have.
But now that we have talked about the teeny, tiny amount of hormones she is getting, she has actually tried to manage it a bit better.  I told her, that as soon as she realizes that it is her hormones doing the crying, to just sort things out in her head.  So just the other morning, as she tripped, she started to bawl.  (Keep in mind that this girl has never cried over pain.) Then I saw her realize that she wasn’t in any sort of pain, and then get up and brush herself off.  And that is when I knew that she heard what I was saying, and together we can see a tiny light at the end of this tunnel.

Outnumbered

Babe — you are officially outnumbered during these nighttime shenanigans.

Battlebot

img_5526-2016-11-06-at-07-15-51.jpg
Long after Scout should have been in his bed asleep, I heard tinkering.  When I finally went in to see what was going on, (because I wanted to go to bed myself), he was so stoked to show me his creation — his “battlebot”.  I said three things.  First, “Very nice work.”  Second, “Put it where nobody can reach it.”  And last, “Get to bed before I beat you.”

Hidden Hoarders

You’ll never guess which two of my kids were supposed to be cleaning, but instead were hiding with some Halloween candy.
I have one word….confiscated.
(Just like Scout’s last week!)
