I was sleeping when I was woken up to some weird rustling in the kitchen. I can always figure out what sounds are…and usually who is making them, but this time I couldn’t crack the code. So out of curiosity alone, I went in to see….
The cutest boy on earth who had pushed a chair over the the Ziplock baggy drawer. Gotten a bag, and then was emptying some peanut butter pretzels from the snack drawer into his baggy. He also had an applesauce with a spoon. When he saw that I was inspecting him, he looked up and smiled, and then said, “Yook Mom….I not even making a mess!”
And he wasn’t.
When I told him what a good job he was doing, he made me follow him to the table where he put a napkin on the chair to protect it (our rule), and then proceeded to eat his breakfast.
(Or “dinner”, as he likes to call every meal.)
We were originally going to go bowling today, but that got vetoed because the kids were acting naughty. So I punished them with shopping instead.
But what really happened…they punished me!
When we got there and I told the kids to put their shoes on, Scout said, “Since we were going to the bowling alley, I knew I only needed socks.”
Luckily Old Navy has $3 Flips.
While I was checking out, Scout and Navy hit up their favorite past time….they search for money.
I have two takes on this….on the one hand I am kind of proud of their commitment. On the other hand, I am a bit embarrassed by their commitment.
Then we were outside, and guess who found fountains where there is money?!
It was decently innocent at first.
I remember doing the same thing when I was a kid….who cares about a wet arm.
But a wet body is a different story!
I was looking on the patio of a restaurant to find my Mom, and guess who had a magnetic attraction to a nearby fountain.
When I turned, Navy was completely in it, and Scout had already dunked his head.
Let’s just say that I wasn’t the only one snapping pictures.
It is a good thing I had a fourth baby.
Maybe I can train this one right, and get a child who behaves with some decency.
And it looks like she is well on her road, as she was giving out free kisses all afternoon.
We hit up the strawberry fields on the last week they are going to be open. It was a bit picked over, but we still scored serious loot. And my kids always love it. Especially Scout. But unfortunately, he decided it was a great day for a special date with Dad. I HATE HATE HATE not having all of my kids with me. It was just a little incomplete today.
But these strawberry pickers didn’t seem to notice the absence.
Dash scored a teeniest strawberry I have ever seen.
He was so stoked on it!
And Navy scored tons of “beauties” as we like to call the really red and juicy ones.
Check out the juiciest strawberry of them all.

After a day picking produce, we decided it was time to relax.
And we also decided that Britni’s house was the perfect place to do that.
These kids were wiped after two hours on the sand, and two back-to-back movies.
I think it is around 10:30 at night when I snapped this picture.
Look at the Pips….hanging with the big kids, and sporting a smile….like usual.
This boy woke up TRASHED this morning.
We are talking … he looks like he got beat up and then ate raspberries.
Good thing I have Navy’s eye drops from when she was a baby, because by noon, they were already looking better.
My kids worked hard this morning, so they played hard this afternoon. Usually, I have a pretty cool afternoon planned, but today, it was a fend for yourself/play hard afternoon. And fend they did.
Between making their own cars, doing laps with the neighbors, sliding down the stairs in Costco boxes, creating forts, playing in the new clubhouse, and about six other things…..they fended.
And when they got thirsty…they fended also.
I caught Scout drinking out of the hose.
But what I didn’t catch in time was Navy guzzling the lasts bit of milk out of the jug.
When I say it was a lazy afternoon….that might be a little synonymous with “white trash” or “hillbilly” or “orphan” afternoon.
Regardless, my hooligans were fully enjoying themselves the whole time.
Before bed last night, I taught Scout and Navy the game Speed.
They loved it!
And so did I!
There is something about when your kids hit the next level…where they can kind of hang with the big kids that I love.
For the record…..the puzzle craze is still in full force around here!
A recent past time….blanket rides.
One pulls, the other rides.
Entertainment had by all.
I can hardly believe it….the Pips has grown so quickly!
I just read through Dash’s 9 month rundown, and there is quite the difference.
For example, he was getting his 8th tooth at this point, and Pippi just keeps tricking us that she might be teething…but has nada.
But let me rundown what she does have…
-The sweetest disposition ever.
-She is happy, happy, happy. (Much more than Scout or Navy, but possibly tied with Dash.)
-Her eyes have turned into a cool and indescribable color at the moment…greenish. But they have definitely left the blue category….stinks for me!
-When there is music on, she sings along.
-She goes crazy in her jumper.
-In the past two weeks, she has gone from the starfish crawl to a real crawl….and she has gotten fast!
-She has taken the stairs plunge…check out that mini bruise on her head.
-She loves to play patty-cake.
-She loves her Nonnie/rescuer from bed.
-She is dragged from kid to kid on a daily basis.
-Because she is dragged around, she is tough.
-She is starting to stand up against things…but gets stuck and scared so cries for me to get her.
-Her dimples have stayed, and I am so excited about them.
-She has crazy long lashes.
-She is going to need major orthodontia…because her smile looks a bit gummy.
-She loves the sand, and plays in it happily.
-She loves her ABC bath toys.
-She does the cutest huffing noise when she wants something.
-She will eat anything, but is still a little sloppy while I spoon it in.
-She is passed around at church because everyone adores her.
-She isn’t anywhere near taking steps.
And the #1 thing about her right now…….
-She is obsessed with her mama.
Happy 4th!
We started our day off with the Patriot Hike to the American flag.
The kids signed in where we did last time.
Then I snapped a few pics — why does Dash crack me up in this picture!
And then snacked on some cherries.
-
Naptime
-
Then we headed to Grandma’s house for a BBQ filled with games and a blow up pool.
Oh yeah….and a Fourth of July Superhero!
Who went around giving people the “power” all afternoon!
-
Then it was fireworks, where Scout and I took a special date to see them better.
And then bed!
