(Here is Navy helping me with Pips as I took a bath.)
I picked Navy up from school, and Ms. Leah came right over and asked if Navy was a really good helper at home. I said that she was, and that she is the best cleaner I’ve got. And then her teacher told me that she is constantly helping at school. When an art project is finished, and all of the other kids run off to play, Navy sticks around to get everything nice and tidy. And if there is ever an opportunity to hang the art projects up or organize a shelf, Navy is first to volunteer. That makes me happy.
And this comes as no surprise to me. That little girl has been my best helper since Pippi has come home. Navy has been the first to pick up her little “Pipsqueak’s” diapers and throw them away outside in the garbage. She is the first to help burp her and feed her. She sings to her, and “babysits” for me when I go into the next room. Basically she is keeping her safe from the Big Bad Wolf named Dash.
And she doesn’t stop there. She is my “water girl”. Each night, she takes my hospital mug downstairs to fill with water and ice for my night of pumping and nursing. (You know the times when thirst comes on like a raging bull.) Like last night before she went to bed, she came over to get my mug. She went downstairs and filled it up with “13 pieces of ice and water”. And it was “really really cold” because she even stirred it. And then Scout came up with a smirky smile on his face as I was about to take my first outwardly refreshing sip. But luckily before my oohs and aahs came, I saw that he was holding an old and tattered toothbrush that came from the toy drawer. And then with a huge grin, he announced, “Mom, Navy stirred your water with this toothbrush!”
Needless to say, my oohs and aahs came that night without even trying the finished product. And when she walked off to bed as my proud water girl, I looked at Micah and made the fake finger-in-the-mouth throw up sign as we both laughed.
