Roller Races

Weekend mornings are the best.

Especially when Scout traded his bike for a pair of Seth or Cade’s rollerblades for one week, because he organized some morning roller races that kept these three weasels happy for an hour!

This Mini Wheat-covered boy is in love with riding his “cooter”.
Just look at the udder joy on his face.

And look at this boy on skates!
This is his third day, and he is pretty impressive on them!
I think he is better than I ever got.

And of course our little wedgie-picking speed demon, was tough competition during the races.

But Dash wasn’t going to let her win too easily during the scooter race!

The More The Merrier

With the warm weather almost on its way out, Scout and Navy got to have some buddies over for a swim playdate.

I was a little concerned on how to get them all back to our house after the soccer game, but a little double buckling did the trick.

And would they all like the pool for two hours straight?
Obvi!
All 9 kids were loving the math challenges, the fear factor mustard eating challenge, the diving competition, the never-ending stash of gummy crap and clearly the heated “kacoozie”!

Home Grown Fair

img_1542-2013-09-20-at-19-33-19.jpg
Scout and Navy started talking about fair earlier this week.  They spent two day sin quiet time planning all of the details of it — including the guests, the costs, games and food.  It was pretty endearing.  So tonight it all went down.  Unfortunately, some of the invitees were out of town, and couldn’t make it, so it quickly became a family fair.  As soon as Dad came home, the games began.

Amongst several blindfolded games (like when we went into me beyond messy closet - due to their hide and seek game in it earlier in the day, and in the pitch black had to find the hidden frisbee), there was the ball toss.  It was so cute, they had prizes for the winner of each game…and Dad was the winner of the ball toss.
They felt so accomplished at the end of their fair.  And later that night, as Micah and I were talking before bed, Micah said, “You know what is funny….I was looking forward to their fair all day long.”
So was I!

Dr. Scout

Navy got a boo boo on her toe.
When I told her I would take care of it, Dr. Scout said he would do the honors.

Not bad my boy.
But I might have to get you in touch with a good medical tape/Bandaid rep.

School Shoes

img_0048-2013-09-19-at-13-11-27.jpg
As we were rushing out the door to Scout’s insanely early first bell at school, I told him to run up and get his shoes.  Unfortunately, I didn’t second guess him and look at his feet prior to driving off.  Fortunately, his slippers kept him REALLY warm in the 90 degree weather we had today.

The Stinky “No”

img_1541-2013-09-20-at-07-46-21.jpg
This little boy is the most polite boy on earth!  He never gets anything without asking “please”.  And he always remembers his “tank tou”.  But there is another word that has crept into his vocab that is not quite so polite!  This boy exercises his right by telling me “NO” about every time I ask him to do something now days.  His “no” is always accompanied by a little devious smile on his face, because he is trying his hardest to be stinky.
I am working overtime on getting “Sure Mama” into his word repertoire, but somehow, he prefers the stinky “no”.  So there has been a lot of counting down from 5, some time outs, and some gruff voices.  He is starting to associate his “no’s” with getting in trouble, but he is like his sister and Mama.  We would all rather get in a little trouble and think it is funny, than just comply.

Favorite Color…

img_0040-2013-09-17-at-11-01-36.jpg
It is no secret that I love to see my children’s favorites unfold.
I feel like each time I find out one of their favorites, it is like a mystery unfolds itself.
So when Scout declared yellow to be his favorite color, I was thrilled to know he shared my favorite color as a child.
It was like a special bond was created between us.
And when Navy chose pink as hers, I was excited that she went with such a perfectly girly color that suited her just right.
So when Dash recently declared his favorite color, I was crossing my fingers that he didn’t overlap with Scout’s or Navy’s favorite.
And cha-ching…..he chose an original!
But that original has such a special meaning.
It is only the favorite color of one of the greatest boys on earth!
So now I declare to the world….not only does Jake fancy it, but Dash is my orange boy!
I love that he kind of went out on a limb.
He didn’t pick one of the typical boy colors, but instead chose what was really near and dear to his heart!
So orange it is!
And I love it.
-
Disclaimer…he 95% of the time says orange, but has said white a few times.  Either way, I love the originality.  I like him in orange, but you know that white is my current favorite color….so if it be white, I have just gained another special bond with one of my sons! As long as he never says purple, I am pretty much game! (Not because it is Micah’s favorite color….because next to brown, it is about my least favorite color on earth!)

Sleeping Beauties

img_0029-2013-09-14-at-23-00-41.jpg
Lately these two somehow manage to end up in the same bed.
But how can you be annoyed (when you told them to stay in their own beds) when their arms are intertwined with each others.
And the next morning Scout tells me, “Mom I’m sorry I was in Icka’s bed.  But she was really scared and I wanted to make her feel safe, so I went over and cuddled her”.
Hook, line and sinker!

Surprise Surprise

img_0024-2013-09-12-at-18-34-37.jpg
On Scout’s early day, I told them to get in the car and that we were going to surprise the Brockbanks.  Too bad that we were the ones surprised when we found out that they were at the beach for the afternoon.  Whoops.  I guess my impromptu stop offs don’t always work out!  That’s alright though.  We had a fun afternoon in their house/backyard.  And before we left, we left them a few surprises.
A toilet papered staircase.
A fake guy sleeping in Trey’s bed.
A few romantic writings on Cade’s dry erase board.
Some selfies on Chloe’s camera.
A short-sheeted bed for the parents.
We had a good time, and went home happy.  Especially knowing that their house cleaner had made their house spotless just hours before we had arrived.
But nothing made me as happy as when I called Bryan the next day to find out that he was so annoyed with the house cleaner who Megan thought had screwed up on their sheets — but Bryan thought had played a trick on them.  (Maria is a very soft-spoken 65 year old woman, who I am sure isn’t the tricking type!)
But when he started to go into the story and heard my vindictive laugh, he was on to us.
We had a great laugh…but I am pretty sure that guy will be changing his garage code soon!

Navy’s First Day of KR

Navy changed schools this year.  Mostly because the drive could have killed me last year as I went in two different directions four times a day last year.  So this year, school is on the way, and the hours coincide with Scout’s school hours really well.  Before her first day, she and I went and toured the school.  She was loving it, and was really excited to start up.  When we toured KR, she was given “homework” where she had to complete a poster that was all about her.
img_1531.jpg
Clearly we had a blast putting it together, and she was really excited to turn it in.
img_1530.jpg
But I think she might have been just as excited to put on her “first day of school outfit” that she, Nonnie and I went to pick out.
img_1529.jpg
Dash went with me to see her off, and she was not nervous at all.  Even though she didn’t know a single soul in her class, she told me she would make new friends and probably like it a lot!
img_1534.jpg
We used her backpack from last year because we weren’t sure if she would need one.  Good thing we didn’t buy one since the teachers told us no need for backpacks on day one!
img_1535.jpg
The teachers talked her through the morning ritual.
She needed to put her lunch in her cubby — which she is standing next to here.
img_1536.jpg
And then she needed to sign in to let the teachers know she was there.
img_1537.jpg
And finally, take a seat with the other kids and get going on the school day.
-
The verdict once I picked her up.
She really likes her new school, and wants to go back “the next day”.
