With my big belly in tow, I have had quite the little helper at my side. This day, she carried the very full kid’s laundry basket to the laundry room for me. But she didn’t stop there. She helped me sort, load, soap up, start the machine, and even fold. For a girl at the ripe old age of four, she is a really good cleaner and helper when she wants to be. I am just really glad that lately she has wanted to be!
Laundry Help
After School Treat
Sometimes when Nonnie is in the car for pick up, she decides to treat everyone to lunch.
Because it was Scout’s first day — it was his choice which was predictably sushi.
And of course, it didn’t disappoint.
In fact, I think if it was any of my kid’s choice…they would pick sushi.
Maybe it’s the Japanese in them!
Scout’s First Day of 1st Grade
As tradition goes, Scout picked out his backpack at the BYU bookstore. He went with me to pick out his 1st day of school outfit.
I made his lunch in a white paper bag.
We got up and made a big bowl of cereal - which he ate while wearing his new green backpack!
And he was off.
We lucked out that Ms. Shih (now Mrs. Komine because she got married over the summer) wanted to move up with the class, because she loved Scout! I lucked out that she asked me back to be the room mom, and I accepted to be co-room mom. I told her I would do all of the parties for the class, but that the day to day stuff was going to be a little tough with a new baby in October/November. So thank goodness there was a great mom who wanted to do the day to day, and was stoked I would do the parties! Perfect!
When we got there, he lined up with his class. Weirdly enough, the girl who never gets nervous had knots in her stomach.
But not this boy. He seemed totally excited.
When we did line up, I was crushed to find out one of his closest friends and another decent friend weren’t returning for different reasons. I was crushed for Scout. I maybe went and teared up to Micah a bit. I was on pins and needles the whole day to see how he was.
When it was time to pick him up, I was there really early, and brought Navy and Dash to be excited for him completing his first day.
When I saw him, I stretched out my hands.
He ran my way, gave me a huge hug, and told me “I had a GREAT day at school!”
And then he started to tell Dash and Navy all of the little details about being in first grade!
And my nerves finally subsided.
