Dash has been getting his vampire teeth lately. Last night he was up most of the night in my arms, so was wiped by the morning. So much so that he pushed Bella’s door open and went in and crawled into bed with her at about 7:30am. She was kept hostage until her bladder couldn’t take it anymore and she finally had to squirm her way out of the bed. But sleeping beauty didn’t even notice because he was so far into dreamland. When she came out to tell me that he was out on her bad, I was dying. That sweet boy needed some serious sleep, and I love that he went to find a spot next to Bella. About two hours later, I heard a familiar cry, and ran up to get him.
Look at this sad little boy who just wanted to be held — and not be the subject of a picture.
When I got him, we headed to pick up Scout from school. And in honor of his obsession with all things with buttons (remotes, phones, IPads) I gave him my phone for him to push away and pretend talk to people.
Dash is just like Scout and LOVES fruit. They pick in front of even candy. So when I found mini pears and apples at Growers Direct, I bought a bunch.
And this kid was in heaven
He stuffed his little cheeks full.
And then handed back the rest of the fruit while he was going to sit with the apple in his mouth for the next hour.
He is like my very own chipmunk that saves his food for a later time.
See why I love the mini fruit.
A lot less wasting is going on now.
When the primary presidency came over to bring Navy a cupcake for her birthday, she was priceless.
She made her usual face as of lately — she bites in her cheeks to dissuade any sort of smile coming across her lips because she doesn’t like attention on her. We’re working overtime on being gracious.
But wasn’t at all embarrassed to start licking off the frosting as soon as she got her hands on it.
And my future little birthday girl was so sweet to let everyone have some licks of the “yummy frosting”.
Dash went in for the kill a little high.
And Bella was brave to take a lick after all three kids and I already took ours. She claims she got a clean spot, but I think she just shared saliva with one or all of us!
I was wondering the other day if Scout would be getting his big teeth soon. I think I will be depressed when I see his baby teeth fall out, but I guess it has got to happen. When i checked to see if his baby teeth were loose at all — which they weren’t — I saw something behind his front left bottom tooth. Apparently, my kid doesn’t do things in order. Because with no loose tooth in sight, his big tooth already made its debut. I kind of like this. Letting the things that must happen - happen, all while preserving as much of his babyhood as possible.
There are some days when these two are like oil and vinegar. But there are more days when they are two peas in a pod. I love when they click. I love when they have their “things”. They are even starting to have inside jokes and routines together.
Lately, I tell them if they are lucky — and really good, we will have a family bed at night. So after a good day, I lay in bed and have Navy on my left snuggled up and Scout on my right snuggled up, and we all fall asleep together. And then I try my hardest to sneak out without stirring them.
When we went to observe the Chinese preschool at Scout’s school, Navy hopped right up and joined in. I think she loved the fact that the carpet is just like the one in Scout’s class, and wanted to be just like her big brother.
When Scout was rude to Nonnie, he had to write an apology note.
Little did I know that his creative juices were flowing, and rather than a plain note, Nonnie got “one of those planes that has the writing behind it”.
That said “I [heart] U SRY”.
I sent out an Evite for Navy’s first official birthday party. I was in a haze when I did it. And the next day when I told my mom I had, she responded with, “THat’s nice. You sent a pumpkin for Dash’s first party, and a custom invite for Scout’s last year, and she got an Evite.” I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! I hate Evites, but it was so blasted easy. So I went that morning to get the supplies to send the real invitation.
I think they turned out pretty cute.
I just stuck some stamps on the tube and sent them in the mail. Mom, I knew you were right. But it wasn’t until I sent these babies off that I knew just how right you were.
When the entire primary saw the picture of me as a youngster, they were freaking out that it looked like Navy. But everyone can’t believe that Dash looks exactly like Micah. I am bad at this stuff. I don’t see it with either. I literally lok at the picture and can only see Micah as a baby, and me as a kid. I can’t do the cross over thing. So I will just have to take others words for it.
I can’t believe this is the only picture I have from my kid’s first time ice skating. I think Bella has some more on her phone though. But it wasn’t like I could take pictures when they both were holding my hands for dear life. They loved it, but I am SO glad that we got there with only an hour of skate time. My intentions were to have the full three hours, but that would have been torture. Especially because I didn’t think to bring gloves, jackets or hats for my kids. Whoops! I am just glad it was cool enough to put long sleeves on them. Lucky them.
We had a great time, and they are already trying to get me to go back. I loved it, but might try to sign them up for a training session before I brave both of them on the ice with me again. Then again — if I happen to be driving by the skating rink during open skate hours, my bet is that I’ll turn in and take them for a few spins around the rink. I’ve always been a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants-type-of-girl, and two kids hanging on me for dear life won’t stop that.
