Scout’s Hero Stories

dash-and-electronics-1.jpg
I have spent almost two years telling Scout hero stories.  Times where someone made a good decision which in turn made that person a hero.  They range from tiny things like including someone that looks left out, all the way to big things like not stealing from a store.  Each morning he tries to guess who the hero is, and it’s our little game we play on the way to school.  As he leaves, I always tell him goodbye, and “go and be a hero today”.
Quite often, he comes home with something that he did that day that made him a hero.  But lately, he has come home every day and told me something.  It literally makes my day, knowing that he seeks out to try and be a hero.
Yesterday, he came home and told me that there was a little girl who was “counting” on a boy on a swing.  When she got to twenty, he was supposed to get off but he didn’t.  So she counted again, and he did the same thing.  So then Scout “saw them and just said to her that she could just have my swing instead”.  I was so proud of him, and I know that when he told me the story, he felt pretty proud too.
Then today, Scout came home and told me that there was a new boy in class who didn’t know anyone.  So he told him at recess to come and play with him.
I absolutely adore my little hero, and am so proud of him when he tries to go beyond a little boy’s comfort zone to be kind to others.
Hopefully one day I will be just like him.

Sorry

Navy was a stinker in the car.  But she made it up to me when she wrote the following note:
“Mom, I love you.  Will you forgive me?  I am sorry for being mean to you in the car.  Navy.”
We are all back to normal.
Good thing, because I wouldn’t have wanted to miss out on this little photobooth session!

Sea World Field Trip w/ Icka

Navy’s preschool wen ton their annual field trip to Sea World.  It is awesome because we kind of hang out and then do anything else we want.  It is leisurely and easy.  My kind of field trip!

As soon as we got there, Navy ran over to join RoRo and Grey.  It was like a little reunion, and they were all excited to see each other.

Our first stop at the penguins had Navy and Dash so intrigued.
sea-world-field-trip-13.jpg
Amazingly enough, we were able to get a class picture with everyone.
sea-world-field-trip-15.jpg
Here is Dash Oohing at everything he sees.  He was so darling the whole time.  He literally oohed at EVERYTHING!

The sea stars are always a hit.  But I had the nazi in Navy who wouldn’t let me take one out of the water for even a split second.
sea-world-field-trip-29.jpg
So on the sly, I attempted to get my traditional Sea World shot — the sea star on the head shot.  Too bad, Navy made me nervous, and the only shot I got was the one where the Sea Star was falling off of Dashy’s head.

RoRo and Navy love Miss Dianne, and walked with her for a bit - hand-in-hand.

While we were admiring sea life, Bella took a seat to rest for a while.
And then little Monkey-Do walked right over to where she was, and took himself a seat.
I love that little copy cat.

Navy was brave enough to touch the Sea Anemone.

Merrick shared his popcorn during the Sea Otter show, which made him a friend for life.

After a long day, our little Al Bundy was begging for a nap.
Good thing we made it to the car just in the nick of time!

Tantrum Boy

sea-world-field-trip-28957.jpg
Dash is priceless.  He is the sweetest boy on earth.  But lately, he has been throwing these tantrums that should be featured on television they are so hilarious — and dramatic!  (Maybe he got the DraMICAH gene.)
The usual thing to set him off is when he wants to hold something by himself and I won’t let him.  Or if I take something away from him he isn’t supposed to have.
As soon as he gets ticked off:
he falls to the floor
then covers his mouth with one hand to cry into it
he then falls forward into a ball to cry it out
then flings back into the laying position, arches his back and starts scooting himself with his feet
after scooting on the ground for a few minutes, he then gets up and runs in the opposite direction
It is ridiculous!
And hilarious.
And most of the time, he is still holding his hand to his mouth for effect.
I literally get excited when I see a tantrum coming on because I think they are so funny.
And my counter-attack????
When I see it, I laugh out loud, and get everyone around me to do the same.
And 100% of the time, he ends up laughing with us.
And when the transition from crying to laughing takes place, I melt.
It is kind of to die for.

Four

navy-is-four-28912.jpg
Guess who turned four years old?
Only the cutest, sweetest, sassiest and most delicious girl in the world.
Her birthday landed on a Sunday, so we opened presents before church.

Scout did the wrapping, and was pretty proud (and a little too cool).

Amongst princess dresses, art supplies and other goodies, her uncle sent her a dozen beautiful “princess roses”.

And Scout got her a magnifying glass they are excited to look at bugs with.

And in true Navy fashion, she didn’t like the attention, so headed off to play with the IPad smack dab in the middle of present time.  This was only a minor stop off because I am getting her past this awkward stage immediately.  So back to presents it was.

And afterwards, she took her baby brother for a ride down the hall.

He was holding on for dear life.
navy-is-four-26.jpg
But had many successful round-trips.

And later that night — it was dinner with friends and dessert with a birthday candle in it for our big, clearly-tired four year old!

Dash Dashing

navy-is-four-28916.jpg
This boy loves all things with wheels.  But lately, the scooter takes the cake.  He can manage it kind of well for his age, and I am expecting him to be right there scootering with Scout and Navy in no time.

Brittney

Leaving her kids behind, Brittney was in town.  So when she sat down to play Go Fish with my kids, I was in awe.  This was her vacation!  Too bad my kids were a little obsessed!

Dr. Sepulveda

Scout and I had the nightmare experience at the dentist.  Scout was sitting in the chair for two hours while I felt like I was in the middle of a con job.  So before any work was done, I pulled him out of there, and found another dentist for the next morning.  Because Scout needs work from hurting his teeth when he fell off the swing, we needed to find someone good and cheap.  Enter Dr. Sepulveda — Skilly’s favorite dentist ever who doesn’t speak english!
It was worth a try.
img_9338.jpg
Here is Scout pre work.
He said as we were walking into the room, “Mom, I am SO excited.  I know Dr. Sepulveda is going to be the best!”
I knew shots were coming, so I just cringed inside as I watched my boy walking in clueless.
img_9339.jpg
Here is the shot — being masked with water.
img_9343.jpg
Dr. Sepulveda (who does speak English with a heavy Columbian accent), left eht room to let him numb up, when Scout asked, “Mom, when do I get my shot?”
I told him he already had it, and Scout exclaimed, “Holy cow! I didn’t even feel a pinch!”
Nice work doctor!
img_9342.jpg
Look at this awesome doctor who wanted me to stay in the room, and literally watch the entire thing.  And knowing that I wanted to snap a few shots, he gave me great photo opps like this one above.
Dr. Sepulveda — looks like you are a really good find!

Primping

img_9334.jpg
Poor teething, drooling, snot-nosed from a cold, bruised-up Dash.
Navy was set on doing Dash’s hair.
img_9333.jpg
So when he tried to escape downstairs to his little train, she pinned him and made room for two.
img_9336.jpg
So then he got smart and found a scooter for one.

Skateboarding 101

Scout has been dabbling on his skateboard lately.  So I signed him up for a class through the city.  They met at the skate park, and geared up for an exciting day.
img_9305.jpg
RoRo was in class also.
img_9309.jpg
Navy, the “spectator” hopped in the group and was showing off her skills.
img_9330.jpg
Scout had several attempts at the ramps.
img_9318.jpg
Navy preferred the flat with her cohort MaiMai.
img_9325.jpg
Poor RoRo was  having a hard time staying in line, so I posed them for a picture to distract them.
img_9321.jpg
Meanwhile Navy was giving pointers to her buddy.
img_9328.jpg
In the end, I thought the class was a waste, but Scout thought it was really fun.
Here he is after class — showing off some skills.
Too bad they are the same skills he brought to the class.
