Scout’s favorite thing to do is go and buy things with money by himself. Like if he has earned enough money to get himself a churro at Costco, I have to wait pretty far back so he can do it all by himself. So yesterday, he waited in the Costco line for about ten minutes. It was so long because he had to keep moving lines because they wouldn’t see him and close that line or he waited in the pick-up line. I was dying and wanted to go and help him, but I just let him do it by himself. When he finally came back with a “churro split in half with two napkins please”, he announced to me that “everyone over there loves me.” I cracked up and asked him how he knew that. And then he told me that “everyone kept telling me how cute I was and they just loved me!”
Independent — yes.
Cute — yes.
Humble — far from it.
