It was a perfect day to go on one of Scout’s favorite walks. Icka hasn’t been on this one too many times, but after today….it is a definite favorite of hers too. We started off on some big hills, and Scout always has his gun along so he can shoot at things we walk by. Icka was as content as can be in her side of the stroller — even though she did rip off one of her shoes that I luckily found on our return trip. Then we stopped by one of our favorites — the gardens. We have come to know some of the “farmers”, and like to visit them and their crops every once in a while.
Icka just followed Scout everywhere. She is SO in her element when she isn’t contained. Little does she know that I locked the garden fence when we got there.
When I caught a lizard, Scout stayed cautiously at arms length.
Then there is Ickity Dickity. She wanted to hold him and eat him for dinner.
A lot of times, some of our farmer friends will give the kids some taste testers. Today, Scout and Icka feasted on some huge sugar snap peas. They both loved them. Considering my son, the self-appointed vegetarian, is the pickiest eater on the planet…I was thrilled to see him love such a healthy treat. He also tried mint, and liked it too. I told him it tasted like gum, and he was totally into it!
On our way home, we were excited to see the Honeysuckles in full bloom. I showed them to Scout last year, and he developed his love of the sweet nectar then. So we stopped and picked a few, and found that the nectar was more plentiful than I have ever known, and it was as sweet as anything I have ever tasted.
Look at those little droplets of sweet nectar. Delish!
Scout was sucking every last drop of the goodness. Icka watched carefully and then said, “Pease!!!” And then when it took me four seconds to get another flower, “Pease, Pease, Pease, Pease,!!!”
Poor girl didn’t get the technique totally right as she just bit off the bottom.
Finally we got home, but right before we hit our house, we walk through the “Walk of Roses”. We named it that two year ago when the roses were in full bloom. It was so fragrant, and smelled like Heaven.
Not bad for a morning walk — straight from our house.
The best part — both kids are down for naps! They are both tuckered out from the gardens and the sun. Or maybe those Honeysuckles have a little sleeping agent in them.
