50’s Style!

straight-from-the-50s.jpg

Every so often I get the total itch to do something fun.  So this time around, I planned a 50’s drive-in party!  We had a handful of couples over for BBQ’d burgers, milkshakes, hula hooping, music and a drive-in movie.  I kind of put it together at the last minute, but it turned out to be a blast.

We had all of the cars back up to the movie screen, and Scummy Tacky and my sister Tristen were roller-skating waitresses.  But in the end, Tristen’s stint on skates was short lived because she took two major falls within the first minute.  It was hilarious. - especially the part where she was on the ground, face down, begging B. Tacky to get her skates off because she broke her tailbone! Her limp throughout the night had everyone feeling bad, but I kept cracking up everytime I saw it, and told her she better invest in one of those donuts you sit on for a broker tailbone.  On the other hand, Scummy proved to be awesome at the whole 50’s thing.  She did great on the skates, dominated the hula hoop, and even won a $100 bet that will go unnamed.

The burgers were fabulous.  I must say Micah and I are a great team on the grill.  Britni made the shakes that were some of the best I have ever had.  We then all sat back in the trunks of our cars and watched American Graffiti. I didn’t die over the movie, so I just socialized while Micah and Scout hung out watching the flick!

When it was all over, Micah broke out the DDR, and we have some new people hooked.  Namely Andrew Lark who was very impressive, Doug Jolley who picked it up quickly (see the picture of Doug and Micah, and notice Micah squatting like a russian dancer - I think he was either taunting Doug or showing off!), and Mary Jolley who wants to follow in my footsteps and go into labor from DDR.

We had such a fun time, and can’t wait to do more things throughout the summer! And most importantly…PLEASE NOTE….my hair was in a beehive!  It looks more along the lines of “the bride of Frankenstein”,  but it is supposed to be the ever classic 50’s beehive!

Happy 2 Months Baby Scout!

cimg0793.jpg cimg0778.jpg

He is already 2 months old - hence the 2 on the sleave of  his outfit - and I can’t believe it!  Time really does fly!  We celebrated by playing patty cake, which he loves! We then went for a fun dinner at my latest favorite hot spot…Gelson’s market’s salad bar.  And we ended the night with a present from Nonnie.  A darling Splendid outfit from Fairytales in my favorite color on him…baby blue.  Happy birthday you handsome little devil! (my photography is horrible…I know.  But I wanted one of pattycake and him smiling on his B-day).

Time for Shots!

The poor little guy had his two month appointment.  We found out that he is exactly in the 50th percentile, is 23 inches, and now weighs in at 12 lbs.  The sad part is that he had to get his vaccinations today that made him pretty sad! Four of them were by shot, and one was oral.  He was really good with Dr. Carruth’s sidekick Dr. Dyson, until his shots.  He only cried for a few seconds afterward, but notice how red his face is in the picture…obviously they weren’t his favorite!  Stinks for him that he has to go back for more at 4 and 6 months.

Family Night

cimg0094.JPG
Last summer we were indoctrinated into the San Onofre summer family nights.  This past monday night was our first trip down this year.  We met up with our friends -Megan and Nathan Harris, the Storys, the Smiths, and the good old Goodsells who put it on.  Sometimes we bring dogs, and all of the stuff to make S’mores.  And it wasn’t until last year that I learned to like S’mores - thanks to Micah’s impeccable touch with the marshmallows. Last year, Micah and I would ride our bikes down (about 25 miles) for exercise, and Trilby and her girls would be waiting there with food and a car for our ride back.  This year -so far- Micah rides down and I meet him with the car and the baby.  This was Scout’s first official bonfire.  He slept most of the time, and next time I need to remember a blanket instead of a towel, but he loved it!  I think he thought the fire was especially cool, because I caught him staring at it a few times.

Dana Point Concert

cimg0693.jpg cimg0697.jpg

Sunday was the first Dana Point Concert in the park.  It was a great reggae band that did a lot of familiar songs.  The music was great, and our little social butterfly Scout loves these shindigs.  Last year we saw a whole bunch of great mini picnic tables and couldn’t find one.  But this year I snatched one up at Crate and Barrel, and it is great.  We put our food up there, and everyone just serves themselves.  We brought sandwiches, watermelon, cherries and my mom made delicious homemade potato salad.

Classic Micah!

cimg0687.jpg

Micah was watching Scout last night, and he was a bit fussy.  Knowing how settled and good he is in my baby carrier, he found it and wrapped Scout up in it.  I will admit that the wrap is a little tricky to put on, and Micah couldn’t figure it out, so he reinvented the wheel!  When I came in and saw the little guy’s arm and foot sticking out I started to crack up.  I asked if he had fallen asleep like he normally does, but Micah said he was wide awake and he must love the “new way”.  I think it was more along the lines of he was amazed that his daddy really thought he could get all of his work done while I was in this funky position AND why didn’t mom teach him the RIGHT way?!

Buddies!

cimg0691.jpg

Trey is in town for “Bella’s Bootcamp” and has become total buddies with Scout.  He always says, “Your baby is so good, he never cries. And he is SO cute!”  I didn’t really have close cousins growing up, so it is fun for my boy to have so many that adore him!

Scout’s Timing

cimg0681.jpg

I think I am a pretty good mom, but there is one thing I can improve on.  Every time I feed the little guy and have a burp cloth - nothing happens.  Every time I don’t have something for protection - he knows it and takes advantage.  I guess I should be more careful or I guess I would learn, but I actually think it is funny every time it happens.  I am convinced this guy knows exactly when the funniest moments are to spit up, explode in his diaper, and aim and go potty.  It might be coincidence or timing, but I bet it’s not!

Calin and Skylar’s grad party

cimg0679.jpg cimg0678.jpg

For Calin and Skylar’s end of year party, they wanted to have a movie night.  Micah and I set up the outdoor theater with a concession stand.  They both invited a group of people…and the big news is they both had boys on the list –Scary!  The funny part is that Trilby said they could both have about ten people, and Calin did just that.  On the other hand, Skylar’s friends just kept coming and coming.  I think she had about 25 people in total.  We had a great time, and the kids all loved it.

Summer Concert Series

cimg0659.jpg

Summer is officially here!  Last summer, Micah and I discovered the Dana Point Summer Concert Series, and had a blast at them.  Each Sunday afternoon, Micah head down to the Dana Point Harbor to have a picnic and listen to some fun music.  There is a serious turn out with hundreds -maybe even thousand- of people there.  They have a different theme each week such as rock and roll, reggae, classic rock or cover songs.

cimg0662.jpg

This year Micah found out that there are summer concerts in a lot of cities.  So he put together a calendar of where each was, and what genre the music was.  A little overboard -I Know!  But because of his calendar, we hit up the “Music Under the Stars” in San Juan Capistrano wednesday night.  My mom, Tristen, Calin, Skylar and most importantly…Scout joined in on the fun. (He hung out in Belly’s pirate holder -see picture)  Beyond the music, there were local vendors, and local restaurants like the Sundried Tomato, and Cedar Creek Inn had food available.

cimg0661.jpg  cimg0660.jpg

All of the girls but my mom got up and danced most of the time.  And Micah went around and collected everything he could read from the vendors and hung out on the blanket.  My mom also hung out on the blanket and watched and laughed as Tristen would dance behind people who didn’t know she was there.  But the classic of the night was when we all got back to the blanket, and my mom saw a handfull of older people (50’s - 60’s) near us dancing in a group.  My mom leaned over like she had a secret, but instead she innocently and quietly asked, “Is that a mosh pit?”  Tristen and I cracked up!
