Cinderella

Nothing beats a family bed on a Sunday evening.  Tonight, we viewed the recent Cinderella that came out, and it was awesome!  I love the simplicity and purity of being with my little family…all warm and cozy and cuddled up.

Doo Dah

Nicknames come naturally to me.  They evolve over time, and I have one for almost everyone I know.
In the evolution of Pippi’s name…I have unintentionally come to “Doo Dah”.  In part, the story goes like this:
When I was young, my dad used to wake us up every Saturday morning to do our work, by whistling or singing “Zippity Doo Dah”. Because of that, I have always liked the song, and have in turn, started singing it to my kids (I can’t whistle).  But as I started to sing it one day, I started singing “Pippity Doo Dah…..Pippity A…”
And now, as nicknames go, I have abbreviated the whole thing to call my little girl Doo Dah.
And the rest is history.

The Real Pippi

I have never seen a smile as big as the one on Pippi’s face, as when she got a real Pippi Longstocking doll from her cousin Gabe!
He was traveling when he saw it, and bought it for her.
Talk about a rad cousin!
Talk about an even radder gift!
The Bonus: It came with a Mr. Nilson doll also!!!!
This girl is in Pippi Heaven!

Baker’s Helpers

Like bees are attracted to honey….my four little chitlins are attracted to cinnamon rolls.
Raw or baked…it doesn’t matter!

What started out as Scout sitting on the counter while Nonnie baked, has turned into Scout, Navy, Dash and the Pips all sitting there.
They are eager to help by pouring, cutting, sprinkling…..

….and of course, taste testing.

BYU v. UCLA

Seth called up to see if we wanted to go to the BYU v. UCLA game.
So Scout and I signed up.
At first, he was considering wearing his UCLA jersey in honor of his dad.
But when he asked if I would do some face paint on him, I told him I only know how to make really good “Y”s.

We had the best time, as I tried to teach him play by play how football is played.
I was surprised by how much I knew — and how little I knew at the same time!

By the end of the game — with BYU in the lead the whole game, UCLA came back for the win.
But poor Scout missed the whole thing, because he ended up falling asleep on the bench in front of us at about 10:45.

Oh yeah — Scout wasn’t the only one who wanted face paint.
Navy and Dash even personalized theirs to say what they wanted.
(I like Dash’s the best!)

Wet Clothes

You’ve got to love when your daughter comes home for her friend’s house — and is completely wet, clothes and all.
Not because she spilled on herself — or even ran through the sprinklers.
But because she wanted to go swimming.
And obviously coming home one whole block, was WAY TOO inconvenient!

Lego Morning

img_8513-2015-09-19-at-09-23-37.jpg
I love a Lego morning.
But mostly for the shopping and lunch with the Seastrands that follow.
The kids love the Lego morning.

But mostly for the shenanigans where they are dodging the Mall Cop!

Prevention Bust

Notice the strips of fabric sewed between Pippi’s pajama legs?
-
Where I went right:
I am trying to prevent her from getting out of her bed 10 times a night.
I am trying to do it in the most kind way.
-
Where I went wrong:
I sewed it on too loose of pajamas.
I gave her too much slack.
-
Where I went really wrong:
I underestimated Pippi’s determination, persistence and stinkiness!!!

Thacker Fun

You have to love a household where your kids feel as comfortable as they do in their own home.
Just check out Pips cruising with an open thing of cookies at the Thackers.
-
You also have to love when that same family feels as comfortable in your home.
Or car.

Navy and August both got 10 “I will keep my seatbelt on” sentences.
And of course Navy got an additional 10 “I will talk like a lady”.

Tantrum of the Titan

I thought the time-out stand off I had with Navy in France, was the most stubborn thing I might ever witness.
Meet Pippi.
The self-appointed Titan.
I am working with her at this point — trying to communicate with her, trying to understand why she has to kick and scream uncontrollably while riding in the stroller.
But her time is limited.
Because Titans don’t like what I have up my sleeve.
Just ask my now-sweet Navy.
