Best of the Bunch

Stinkpot got a hold of my camera, and was snapping away.  I got a whole lot of pictures of ceiling lights, walls, his nostrils etc.  But this one of his leg really shows his artistic touch and could be worth millions one day.  So yes, I have copyrighted this photo. Oh…..you ask how a two year old got access to my camera?  All I know is that Micah was in the room at the time of snatching.  So he was either oblivious.  Or more likely — my expensive camera was used as the latest diversion technique.

Pops de Dops

I have a secret hunch that Scout will be athletic. Micah has some athleticism to offer…..but on my side, I offer Papa!  My dad played semi-pro football in Canada when he was younger, and ran track for BYU.  All I have to say is that Scout is definitely lucky to have my genes! And if not for the athleticism…..then for the looks!

A Navy First

p1030728.jpg
Navy went on her first bike ride this past weekend.  We made it a family affair with both kids behind Micah, and I was on my own ride.  Although she looks a little bitter to be all bundled, she loved it and was sound asleep by end of the first mile.  I love how Scout insists on wearing Micah’s sweatband on the ride.  And how he was perfectly concentrated on holding the pop rocks Belly gave him for his birthday until the end when he got to indulge.

Lizard Hunting

p1030724.jpg

One of my favorite places to take Scout –and now Navy– are the Dana Point gardens.  You can sign up to have a plot and grow your own garden, and I have been on the waiting list for over a year.  When I checked up on where I was on the list, they said I have at least another year of waiting.  Anyway — Scout loves going along to see all of the plants and crops, play in the dirt, and especially chase the lizards.  We took Micah along last time to test his lizard hunting skills.  Although I had to bully him into trying (because according to him he just “doesn’t like touching lizards”), he finally pulled his sweatshirt over his hand and started “stalking” them.  I told him to forget about stalking, and just catch one!  He finally scored a good sized lizard, but I will say that he made me actually hold the thing.  (And I didn’t see it with my own eyes, but I am SURE that he came home and disinfected his sweatshirt at least three times.)  Scout and I made “Ronny” a home with lettuce and water in a cardboard box.  Our (or Scout’s) plan was to keep him forever, but when it started sprinkling outside I thought it was too cruel and let him go be with his lizard friends.  Poor little Scout has been talking about his lizard non stop, and makes B go outside with him to find them every afternoon since.

Buttered Popcorn

Everyone in my family used to think I was crazy because I loved the smell of my baby’s dirty diaper. (Disclaimer — only during the nursing stage of their life.) They thought I was particularly disgusting when I would say, “if I could bottle this up and sell it, this would be the most popular perfume on the market.”   I kid you not…..my babies diapers smelled like buttered popcorn.  You know….the same smell you get when you walk into a movie theater on a hopping night.  I would constantly tell them to smell for themselves, and they would shun me like I had a disease.  I finally got one brave soul, Skills, to take the challenge, and she said, “it really does smell like buttered popcorn!!!”  I am not sure why it took Skylar to convince everyone, but then everyone timidly took a smell, and everyone was amazed.  I was a lone soul in love with Scout’s diaper, and now Navy has everyone on board.  And in case anybody thinks this is totally disgusting, I offer you the challenge.  About twice a day, anyone is welcome to see for themselves.  And I have to be honest…..you too will be a fan.
(Side note:  remember when you were in preschool and got to shake the little baby food jar full of cream for hours and it made butter?  I guess I produce some serious cream!)

New Discovery

At three months, Navy has found her hands.  She just stares and stares.  My favorite is when she is wrapped in a crocheted blanket and gets her little fingers through the holes and just stares in utter amazement.  Talk about sweet.

Don’t mind the plug that reads “precious”.  It is the only plug that she can partially keep in her mouth because it is totally mini.  And I will take hideous over crying.

Our 12 Hour–er

I proudly announce that I put Navy down last night at 6:30pm.  It wasn’t until 6:30am that she made a peep.  My new favorite number is 12!

And then we took a bath.

A Perfect 2nd Birthday

Today consisted of the perfect day according to what I though Scout would think.

Micah, Navy and I woke him up with the birthday song and explained to him he was two.

He got presents from Nonnie, and was really gracious and excited to get “another present peease!”

He opened his birthday outfit.  Part from Nonnie, and part from mom and dad.

p1030655.jpg

He got picked up from Grandma and Grandpa to go down to the harbor for some fun.

p1030657.jpg

He had his love/hate buddy Ezra come over to swim.

p1030659.jpg

Belly came over and showered him with gifts.

p1030683.jpg

Belly and Scout then went swimming.

We headed to sushi with BKaNayNay, Belly, Nonnie and Grandma, for his favorite meal of rice soup topped off with green tea ice cream…his other favorite.

p1030710.jpg

We went home for brownie caramel sundaes and official present time.

Scout went swimming again…this time with Belly and his dad.

The night was finished with books, and “more books”, lots of calls from family with birthday greetings including a serious rendition of happy birthday from the Brockbanks,  and me telling Scout the story about when he was born.  He listened with a smile on his face the whole time.  What a perfect day….only wish it would have been longer.

2 Years Ago Right Now…..

I keep playing the “2 years ago” game.  I keep announcing to everyone that two years ago right now, I was playing dance dance revolution….two years ago right now, I was heading to the hospital….two years ago right now, I was watching my contractions on the monitor…..two years ago right now, I was seeing my baby for the first time….two years ago right now, the room was filled with excitement while I was getting stitched up.  I don’t know why this year I am so nostalgic about Scout’s actual day of birth, but I totally am.  I can’t believe that he has been in our family for two years.  I can’t remember what life was like without him.  I am amazed at the happiness he has brought into the lives of so many people….especially Micah and me. (and Nonnie, and Belly, and BKaNayNay — because they would be mad I didn’t mention them!)  He has turned into personality plus, and the kindest and sweetest little guy.  He is a darling older brother, and a good little boy.  But of all the things he is, the very best is his latest craze……..a mama’s boy.  Not always, but a lot lately….and I love it!  My mom always told me that boys love their mothers, and she was right!

I literally can’t understand how this….

turned into this….

Happy Birthday Scout!

Disneyland Part 2

Our first time to Disneyland was a bust.  This time was much improved, although I still will never be getting a season pass.  Scout was way more into it, and was so excited about the pirate ride we had been talking up to him for weeks.  Too bad it was shut down for the day.  Regardless, we had a great time.  He was perfect, Navy was perfect minus a blowout.  The best part was when we took him on the haunted mansion.  He just kept announcing that everything and everyone was “nice”.  When Trilby asked me if he was scared on the ride, I answered with, “no way…..he has himself convinced that everything and everyone is ‘nice” and we cracked up.  It really is only funny when you are with him and hear him say “nice” 100 times an hour.  Good times made possible by Walt.
