Navy is in la la land.
Scout is giving me his “best” smile?
And Dash just wants to be crawling.
Do you think it got any better after a few yee haws and a mini dance to get them to pay attention and smile?
Not really.
Unless I am putting this picture up for first place in zombie land.
AS tradition goes — we meet up with the Brockbanks and Cliffords each year at the OC Fair. This year was the same old story — minus about half the food. Trying to be good at the fair was quite the challenge!
The only twist on the story this year was adding in a third child who at first thought might seem tough to keep occupied.
But then Trilby handed him an ear of corn, and the rest is history.
As usual — there were tons of rides.
Tons of ghastly prizes.
(And a doomed fish that Navy named “Stupendous”.)
More corn.
My personal favorite — Centennial Farms.
Forbidden treats from aunts like Auggie!
Stinky kids when the naps were left in the dust.
And serious fits when someone thought it was okay to take our baby’s corn.
Give it back!
The first half ear provided over two hours of gnawing satisfaction!
Scout’s favorite thing to do is go and buy things with money by himself. Like if he has earned enough money to get himself a churro at Costco, I have to wait pretty far back so he can do it all by himself. So yesterday, he waited in the Costco line for about ten minutes. It was so long because he had to keep moving lines because they wouldn’t see him and close that line or he waited in the pick-up line. I was dying and wanted to go and help him, but I just let him do it by himself. When he finally came back with a “churro split in half with two napkins please”, he announced to me that “everyone over there loves me.” I cracked up and asked him how he knew that. And then he told me that “everyone kept telling me how cute I was and they just loved me!”
Independent — yes.
Cute — yes.
Humble — far from it.
Unbeknownst to me, Scout came up with the idea of having a picnic with the neighbors. He went and told them, and they were on board. I was finally made aware of the plans when he came in to tell me that he needed for me to get a few things together for him. A Blanket, and food. On his list of food:
Bananas
Edamame (warmed)
Cucumbers (with salt–a new item on his list of food he will eat–YAY!)
Raspberries
–
That was it.
When I asked him if he wanted any sort of sandwich, he replied with, “No mom….I am just really simple in my foods.”
On top of being the cutest baby in the world, this boy has a lot of stuff under his belt for 9 months.
-He is currently getting his 8th tooth
-He crawls the fastest out of my kids (don’t hold me to that….but off memory, I think it might be true?)
-He blows the lid off my other two when it comes to being obsessed with his mom (although they were obsessed also)
-He makes everyone behind us in church crack up as he makes faces/smiles/yells at them
-He crawls to everything (including the open toilet) and climbs up…but then fusses until someone gets him because he is too scared to get down
-He is obsessed with Scout and Navy & vice versa
-He loves B (but what kid of mine hasn’t)
- He sees Nonnie first almost every morning, and they have a special bond (she hears his cries before I do, and I think he see her as his life saver)
-He is really good about going to bed, so when he cries really hard when I put him down, I know he doesn’t want to go
-He communicates with me really well, and lets me know if he wants water or food by looking and screaming for what it is he wants
-He has a little birthmark on his left elbow that I kiss whenever I see it
-He has smaller baby hands than Icka, but about the same size as Scout
-He is always chewing on his lips and making weird faces because he has so many teeth coming in
-I love to put my lips on the side of his neck between his ear and collar bone where it is warm
-When I kiss his ears and dig my chin into him, he belly laughs
-He is a sloppy eater — but not as sloppy as Icka, and not nearly as neat as Scout
-He eats everything I make him, and has a particular fondness for sushi and PB&J’s
-He is the third, and he is definitely my charm!
I could not love any baby more than this sweet boy of mine!
Oh yeah– I forgot.
The Sawdust Festival is the biggest load of junk all in one place.
Micah called it the “place where time stands still.”
Because every time he looked at his watch, and thought maybe 30 minutes had passed — only 2 minutes had really passed.
Not because we were having SO much fun, but because it was THAT boring!
BUT….
through the eyes of a kid, it was really fun.
They went to the kids area and made finger puppets — which were total hit with these two. My kids love art, and they probably spent a good hour cutting, gluing and coloring these things. I finally pulled them, but they would have stayed for another hour if I had let them.
then it was off to watch the glass blowing. They were pretty intrigued, and I love to let me kids see real things as versus — reading about the in a book. And as the lady was making the most heinous glass shell I had ever seen, Navy called out, “That is SO pretty!” and got quite the laugh out of the crowd. It was pretty sweet and unexpected.
Then it was off to watch some hippie throw a pot. Again, my kids were loving it, so when I saw that about 90 minutes later, they could throw their own pot, you know I signed us up. I’ll admit that the wait was painfully long, but it was all worth it when I saw the utter joy my kids got from it.
They both got aprons on, and went at the same time.
It was totally legit, and Scout was really into it.
Navy was into it also, but I think she loved the messy hands part almost as much.
In the end, Scout chose to throw a vase, and Navy chose to throw a bowl. But when Scout heard Navy was transforming her bowl into a heart, he decided upon a star vase.
Both turned out good, and are both currently drying on our kitchen counter as I type.
-
It will be years before I have to head back.
But because my kids had a ball, I am glad I went.
Lately, Navy has been doing the same thing each morning.
She first sets up shop by folding her blanket.
Then she gets her stroller and fills it with snacks.
And then strolls from room to room.
And just when you think things are as cute as can be….
Look who pops out!
And even though he gets pretty manhandled by his “morning mama”, he is a really good sport during chubby cheeks.
During her adding every blanket in the house to his stroller.
And especially during his lotion-to-hair application.
(Or maybe he isn’t such a sport in this one — but maybe he realized that she REALLY overdid it!)
Just look at the happiness in this family portrait!
And look what Scout transforms the stroller into, when he has his chance.
The Bat Mobile.
Look who I found making our bed this morning??!!
And she ended it with a Tah Dah!
But when I exclaimed, “I don’t believe you did this whole thing yourself. You are WAY too little!”, she said, “Yes I did. See…”
And then proceeded to completely take the bed apart and do it all over again!
When we were making our Summer jar of Ideas, Scout made sure to include sneaking into the community pool we drive by each day. He has always wanted to go, and I told him one day we would try to sneak in. So we finally pulled it, and can finally check it off our list.
It was a cooler summer evening, and the kids were pretty cold because they don’t heat it.
But that didn’t put a frown on this happy boy’s face.
-
They swam for about 45 minutes, and then we hopped the fence to go home. I told the kids that if we were heading down, the one rule was that I wasn’t bringing a zillion things — so there were no towels or toys.
Except of course — for the cutest baby on earth.
The run home was adventure filled. Micah was carrying a scooter and bike. The kids were freezing. Navy picked about five flowers along the way. Scout made it into a competition, but nobody raced him.
But all was well when Micah put Navy in his warm sweatshirt, and Scout got to a warm bath first.
“Sneak into that Pool” — check.
Almost daily I get what Scout calls, “[my] favorite picture”. This time he beefed it up with two hearts, gave himself a bit crazier hair, and stayed true with my ponytail that looks like it is some sort of Indian war paint.
See how happy both of us are.
These pictures never get old.
Ever.
