There is something about December in this family.
Yesterday marks the two-year anniversary of Scout’s bone crushing fall from a swing that put him in a body cast.
So I thought December 10th was the big day in December that would mark our lives forever.
But today, December 11th gave December 10th a run for its money.
This morning Pippi had her blood drawn to see if she would head back into the hospital for another blood transfusion.
-
Then a bit later, I discovered this:
Only a bone growing directly out of Scout’s gums.
Apparently, when he got his tooth knocked out a sharp little remnant stayed in there, and is now working its way out.
After I saw it, I told Micah he needed to check it out, because it was kind “Ripley’s Believe it or Notish”.
But before Micah had a chance to see it, I saw Scout feeling it with his tongue.
Then he said….”Whoa Mom!!! I got the bone out with my tongue!”
“Whoa…whoa…WHOA! I just swallowed my bone!”
-
Not much later, I had a little girl as sad as can be on the couch.
Sweet thing didn’t follow directions to play in the cul-de-sac.
Instead she went with Seth, Cade and Scout to the community gate.
Unfortunately, that community gate was too strong for her little fingers to take.
With a good gash on her pinky, three fingers pretty crushed and some crazy swelling, I felt so badly for her.
But if you know my kids….they are tough.
And Pippi will thrive.
Scout will flourish.
And Navy will prevail.
-
Good thing Dash wasn’t hurt today…because I was out of synonyms!
Navy decided that she didn’t want bangs this morning.
Whenever she decides that, I ignore the request, and give her really cute bangs.
Too bad my mom obliged.
I’m not really interested in my kids getting big, and I think the bangs keep her looking like my baby.
Unfortunately, she now knows the way around me that will let her grow up.
Stinking Nonnie!
-
Sidenote: AS soon as her hair was fixed, I saw her lloking in the mirror as if she was the most beautiful girl in the whole world. When she saw me looking, she turned and said, “Mom, do you think that we could go and show Seth and Cade? They are just going to love it!”
As we are watching Pippi’s hemoglobin, I woke up to my baby who slept 10 hours and was crazy pale.
I told her it was off to the doctor for a heel prick.
Clearly, she was not happy about this.
As I had suspected, her hemoglobin was down to a 9.0.
Due to the really low number, Carruthy had to draw blood to check her retic (future hemoglobin) count.
It was slightly traumatic for my little 2 month old.
But she was all smiles after, cause Carruthy got her vein on the first try.
He even got a glimpse of one of her cutest features of all….her dimple.

Meanwhile…
These two made balloon hands in the corner.
Ryder never knew that carpool could be so fun!
When I was going through some of Scout’s schoolwork, I saw this Thankful Wheel. I initially stopped to comment on the horrific penmanship. Then I was touched to see that Mrs. K., Food, family and the world all made his list. But when I read “bowfroom” on his wheel, I snapped out of being touched, and right back to the penmanship issue.
Sidenote: I couldn’t even get mad at him for the horrible Mandarin penmanship on the right, because who knows what that is supposed to look like!
One of the byproducts to Tristen’s obsession of Dash is tons and tons of pictures.
I’m definitely not complaining!
Look how stinking cute this kid is!
And my personal favorite….
I think I am one of the last moms in the world who still sends her kid with a paper lunch sack.
I can’t organize my life enough to get it and clean it every night or to keep the ice pack cold.
So even when Scout says, “Mom, do you think we could go to the store and buy me a real lunch pail?”, tell him I don’t think it is in the cards.
So to soothe his pain, I suggested that we decorate his bags until Christmas Break.
He was all in.
He made some really cool ones.
I made a few that might have been considered a bit girly.
And Micah made a few rad ones.
Guess who isn’t complaining about his lunch bags now!
Or should I say complaining less.
Martha,
We had some good times. You brought a lot of laughter into our home. Thank you for sticking around long enough to become part of the family. Everyone is sad to see you go.
Everyone that is….but me.
Good riddance.

This boy has been serving a lot of time lately.
It is unfortunate, because he is literally the happiest little guy in town.
But like most convicts, he has a vice.
To some it is the thrill of stealing.
Others have a drug of choice.
His is pens.
This boys vice is always in his face, and going to be a tough one to overcome.
But the warden in the house is going to make sure of a full recovery.
If not…this boy is going to get a life sentence!
This boy has a lot of talents.
Crossing his eyes is one of his best.
And I am always a fan of honing your talents.
So some mothers would say, “don’t do that…your eyes will cross forever.”
But I say, “Nice work Scout…you are getting better and better!”
Micah is a major nostalgia lover.
Anything that reminds him of his childhood makes him excited to repeat it.
So the other day I walked into the kitchen to Micah and the kids making Chex Mix.
Apparently, when he was young, he was at a buddies and they were doing a huge puzzle while eating Chex Mix, and he thought it was the coolest thing ever.
I’m wondering if our three kids begging to pour in the ingredients, while eating half of it away satisfied his nostalgia?
