Scout’s Baby Blessing

Scout received the most beautiful baby blessing this morning by Seth.  He was perfect through the whole thing, but at the end Seth forgot to show him like they usually do.  So when he came down from the pulpit, I said, “Seth, you forgot to show him!”  So right there, he showed him, and everyone started laughing because they were all thinking the same thing!  Besides Seth’s family, Brook and Jen, the Brockbanks, the Cliffords, the Denisons, the Janischs, the Nilsons, and the Thackers were all there to support.  Afterwards, they and others came over for a lunch that my mom, Tristen, Micah, Brett and I had all prepared.  However, the man of the hour was pooped, and took a two hour nap on Trilby. For lunch we had chicken croissant sandwiches, pasta salad, green salad, fresh fruit and strawberry shortcake for dessert.  Talk about delicious!  And to burn some of those calories — we had a big Dance Dance Revolution challenge.  My mom broke out the dollar bills and started rewarding the winners.  I think Tristen ended up with the most money because she cheats!  Anyway, the day was really fun, and We loved having everyone there!

First Smile!

img_0471.JPG

I didn’t get it on camera, but Scout -our very stoic and serious boy (see “The Thinker” picture taken by Tristen)- smiled his first real smile today!  Seth and Brett are in town, and we headed down to San Diego to see the Brockbanks.  While there, my mom had Scout on her lap and was talking to him.  Megan was over her shoulder and saw the whole thing as Scout focused in very intently on his Nonnie and finally gave in and cracked a smile at her.

At first I was hesitant to really believe the whole story because my mom has been saying for weeks, “The first person to get a real smile is the winner!”  I thought she was just looking to be the winner, but Megan -my honest and ethical sister- vouched for the entire thing!

Memorial day = I month old!!!

Micah and I had a great time on memorial day.  He woke up and went with some buddies to the park to play ball.  Scout, Skylar and I headed down in support and stayed for a bit.  Afterwards, we headed to the beach.  We met up with the Brockbanks at “Trail 1″ at San Onofre.  While there, I was the judge of the sand castle contest.  Micah and Chloe were a team, and took first prize! The weather was beautiful, and unlike other beaches, it was not crowded at all.  We then topped the day off by heading over to the Samuelian’s house.  Britni and Jason are housesitting.  We ended up having a BBQ — hamburgers– and finished up with a little 1 month birthday celebration for Scout with our new favorite treat….Maggie Moo’s Ice Cream.  Scout  went with my mom and Trilby to South Coast Plaza, and then met up with us at the BBQ.  He was angel for them and also for me!  Happy 1 month….and I can’t believe it has already gone by this fast!!!!

How Rude!

(Sorry it is blurry - it was too close, and I don’t claim to be a photographer!)

Ever since I was a little girl, my family has told me my singing voice is horrible.  It didn’t hit home until I was rocking Scout and he was perfectly happy.  I started to sing to him, and about 1 second into the song, he would get this sour look on his face and start to cry.  I then would stop, and he instantly became happy once again.  Tristen and Calin were by us, and made me start singing over and over.  And like Pavlov’s dog….as soon as I would open my mouth in song, Scout’s tears started rolling. American Idol…I think NOT!

Tristen loves photography, and put a little photo shoot together for Scout the other day.  For three weeks old, Scout took direction really well, and was really good during the whole thing.  She also did a great job, and here are some of the cutest pictures….

The Hungry Hippo!

getting-big.jpg

We went to see Dr. Carruth today.  At this appointment Scout was 3 1/2 weeks old.  At his last appointment about two weeks ago, Scout weighed 7 lbs, 11 ounces.  Today he weighed in at 8 lbs, 14 ounces!  He is a growing boy, and I had a hunch since he is the hungriest guy I know next to his dad!  Like father…..like son!

I Love Daddy!

Scout absolutely adores his dad.  He just looks at him and looks at him.  This morning Micah got Scout up at 7:30 and I fell back asleep.  I don’t like to sleep in, but I guess I was lacking in that department because Micah came and woke me up at 10:30.  In the meantime, Micah had bathed and dressed Scout.  He then took him to the hardware store to get a couple of things done.  And then they just “hung out” and looked at eachother for a bit.  He is a great dad, and Scout is one lucky boy to have him!

His First Caricature!

We went to the new Bloomingdales at South Coast Plaza.  In honor of just opening, they had fun things going on everywhere.  In the kids department they had a balloon artist and a caricaturist.  (They must have been at my wedding!)  Scout sat very patiently for his first sketch ever!  The artist said it was his youngest model ever -19 days old-.  The artist did a good job, but went a little overboard on his hair.  He looks like his dad with a full head of it, as versus the wispy stuff he really has.

Oops….I did it again!

Scout has the ability to time things perfectly.  I think he does it just for me, because it cracks me up every time.  This particular time, my mom was the poor victim.  It was about 6:00 pm, and the little Scoutster had a sick tummy.  My mom was consoling and calming him.  She said she did the trick, and proudly handed him over to me.  I then pointed to the proof that Scout calmed and consoled himself….all over her!  Thank goodness for Spray and Wash!

The Cradle

When my first sister was born, my dad built a cradle for her. Every child in my family -all 12- slept in the same cradle.  Now, 40 years later, little Scout is sleeping in it.  It’s kind of cool to think Scout and I both started out in the same bed!
