I was reading when Pippi came in and plopped next to me and started making some sort of loud sound.  It was some sort of slurping, clicking, munching noise.  After a bit of this, I finally turned to ask her what on earth was she doing.  She said, “I’m drinking and eating like Scout.”
I started rolling!
Then I grabbed my camera out to document it.
It is true — Scout has been eating like a total pig lately, and he has become quite the loud eater.  It is out of control.  I have encouraged him to stop (more like threatened), but he doesn’t seem to care that I notice.  Maybe when he sees this video, he will realize that I am not the only one who is noticing the problem!

(Update: I showed him the video.  He laughed as hard as I did.  He has vowed….to NOT change!)

Navy’s Work

img_7535-2019-05-21-at-15-56-52.jpg
When Navy brings home her work from school, it is such a pleasure to look at.  It almost always comes with spectacular grades, and it is always a surprise to me because I helped zero percent!  I love to see her writing this year, because she is really creative.  This journal entry from “Tristen” her gold rush name featured all sorts of our family members names and details.  I really can’t believe how much Navy has blossomed this year.  She went from little kid, to big kid — almost young lady in just a matter of months!

Phonetics

img_7529-2019-05-21-at-13-31-17.jpg
Pippi brought this to me and said…”here mom…I typed in the name and password.”  I asked her what exactly she “typed”, and she said, “Princess Toy Review”.
Who knows what the email is, but I can certainly make out “Princess Toy Review” under the name section.
Pretty good on the sounding out Pips.
But you are still not getting on my phone to watch some weirdo adult review a child’s princess doll.

A Con

img_7522-2019-05-21-at-07-19-48.jpg
You see this face?
It is the face of a con.
This girl woke up and was “feeling sick”.  So sick, I almost let her stay home.  She was pretty convincing.
But then I found the note.
img_e7518-2019-05-20-at-23-44-36.jpg
The note to remind her to “pretend to make my tummy hurt so I can hang out with Ka.”
Ka got home from college last night, and all of my kids were trying to get me to let them stay home.  It was only Navy, who almost got me.  Too bad she hasn’t learned to burn all evidence.
Too, too bad.

Anatomy of a Thank You Letter

img_7509-2019-05-20-at-20-16-00.jpg
For family night, I taught my kids how to write a proper thank you letter.
img_7515-2019-05-20-at-20-59-23.jpg
I put the diagram up for them to see, and for us to talk about.
We talked about being specific, about being personal, and about making the receiver feel good about themselves.  The kids took to it, and were excited to write a thank you letter when I passed out cards.
Scout chose Thompson — a fried who had gotten him a recent birthday gift.
Navy chose her teacher — who had made her a shell necklace.
Dash chose Elodie — for being a nice friend. (Although his sibling were making girlfriend jokes, so his letter took a little more convincing.)
Pippi chose Bishop Daly — for being so great each Sunday.
Micah chose Navy — for accompanying him to the dance.

I was so impressed by their letters.  They were awesome.
After we finished up, and Micah was heading out for soccer, the sister missionaries came over to give us a quick thought on kindness.

They loved the thank you note, and incorporated that into their message.  But the best part came after the missionaries left …
img_7516-2019-05-20-at-21-00-05.jpg
Navy wrote the sweetest thank you note to the missionaries for coming over.
I hope this thank you note thing sticks…because to see my kids be kind and grateful makes me about as happy as I can get!

Yanking

img_7507-2019-05-20-at-16-20-35.jpg
This girl has been yanking at the same tooth all day long.  I’m assuming it is a bit closer to coming out…but based on my observation…not close enough.
So in the meantime, we are just watching the cutest girl try to get a bit “older”, as she has a bloody paper towel hanging out of her mouth all day.

Pizza Again

img_7495-2019-05-19-at-16-34-13.jpg
We are loving our new pizza BBQ.  It produces deliciousness in a matter of minutes. And Micah has worked out most of the learning-curve kinks.

These two have gotten a taste of pesto pizza, Thai pizza, BBQ chicken pizza, and burata pizza today.
No wonder the kids beg for pizza on the daily!

Daddy/Daughter Sock Hop

It is that time of year….where Micah takes Navy on a pretty cool date.  This year’s daddy/daughter date was 50’s themed — and was an official sock hop.  Navy was pumped because she has a poodle skirt from Ka, and after much consideration….Micah went 50’s preppy.

Each year, they say the party is fantastic.  Between the diner with root-bear floats and cotton candy, the 50’s dancing demonstration, the photo ops, and bazillion friends she met up with…she said it was a blast. She actually said it might have been her favorite year yet.  She only gets one more year, but she is already prepping Pippi for all of the future fun.
When I was putting Navy to bed later that night, she said, “Mom…I wish I could go to that every night!”
Pretty cute for a girl and her dad.

Bizarre

img_7393-2019-05-18-at-12-31-30.jpg
We have had a lot of costume get ups come out of our costume cupboard — but I think this tops them all for “most bizarre”.  And even more “bizarre”…he wore it for a few hours, outside and all!

Piano Recital ‘19

img_7423-2019-05-18-at-15-58-45.jpg
Mr. Holt has become a staple in our home each Thursday.  There are many days our kids groan and complain about piano…but whenever someone comes for a visit, we go to someone’s home with a piano, or it is recital time….Scout and Navy tickle those ivories with a vengeance.
img_7411-2019-05-18-at-14-59-52.jpg
img_7415-2019-05-18-at-15-30-06.jpg
At this year’s recital, with the exception of two older kids, Scout and Navy did the best!  They were confident, they knew their pieces backward and forward, and they performed perfectly.  Micah and I were so proud of them.
But the best part came at their next lesson, when Mr. Holt said the same thing.  He thought they were at the very top of the list of the pianists at the recital…and he said how proud he was when they each finished their pieces.
Dash starts next year…and for the first time in a while, we are going to know who is at the piano.  Because this past year, Navy has excelled so much, that without knowing which piece Scout or Navy has…we can’t tell a difference.  And that is pretty impressive on Navy’s behalf.
Nice work kids.
