Micah relayed the following story to me this morning:
After several years of Scout trying to shortcut his way out of everything, and many discussions over it, Micah decided to try to encourage him last night to try better, by telling him some of the rewards he could look forward to. He talked to Scout about the fact that if he really tried hard right now, and made the most out of everything he could right now, he would be happy about it later. Then he told him that if he would start saving his money now, work really hard in school at this young age, try to create some money-generating things, meanwhile creating good credit for himself…that by the time he was 21, he could buy himself a house.
Scout thought about it for a minute, and then replied, “Dad, you know that most people would say that their house is their biggest asset. I’m here to tell you that it is actually their biggest liability.”
And then he dropped the mic, and walked off.
