Scout has gotten himself in a bit of trouble lately. His disrespect towards me, has been off the charts lately. So in an effort teach him what I do for him every day, and for him to appreciate me…Micah has been making him be “Mom 2″. Basically, he gets all mom responsibilities without any of my authority. To say it has been an uphill battle is an understatement.
Tonight, he had the entire kitchen after Sunday dinner.
Micah patiently outlined everything for him to do. So after he first cleared all of the plates, then Micah told him it was time to rinse them. I kid you not, it took Scout (with Micah’s instructions) 2 1/2 hours to clean the kitchen. A lot of the time, Scout had a really bad attitude and complained the whole time. And then after calm instructions from Micah (his patience was amazing — and well beyond what I would have been able to muster up), Scout turned a corner. His attitude changed, and I heard everything out of the kitchen change — the water was on, the garbage disposal ran, and I could hear things being put away.
Scout got the kitchen totally clean, after a steak dinner was eaten by 9 people.
And the kicker…..
Scout came to me afterwards, and said, “Mom, I finally realize what you do every single day for us. Thank you.”
Then Micah chimed in with, “She does that for you many times every day. And you don’t realize yet, but after the next three weeks of being grounded…you’ll know.”
Mom 2….thank you.
Sweet husband…..thank you even more!
