I have talked about going ice fishing, ever since my coworker from Utah told me how awesome it is.  So when Bryan and Kelsi told us they were going to go in Minnesota (Bryan’s stomping grounds) Micah was in!  (What a rip that he was invading my wish to go.  But when another spot opened up — I got the bed!
My coworker didn’t downplay the adventure at all!
It was an absolute blast.

Here is our home away from home.
There were four beds per unit, a small kitchen area w/ a stove, and 7 oggered holes around the perimeter of the open space, to fish all day and night.

The weather was a dream — low 30’s, so we fished outside as well.

Bryan created the raddest trip — and I think Karma was in his favor, because he caught tons of rad fish.
Actually, we all did!
There was a max amount of fish we could pull up each day, and we were actually picking and choosing which fish to keep, because we were catching so many.

At day’s end, we would grab our fish, drive to the shore, and filet the fish.
Then the guys in the kitchen would fry them up.
It may be the best fish I have ever tasted.  It was mainly Walleye, and was so fresh, that after filleting and handling the fish, there was no fishy smell on your hands.
One night we ate the fish just as it came.
But another night, Kelsi made all the fixins for fish tacos, and they were insane!
The best part, was that everyone was looking at us, wondering what we were doing.  Most had never heard of a fish taco — and certainly never tasted one!
Because our bounty was so large, we started passing out fish tacos to everyone, and they were all sold!

My contribution to the trip was a box of Snickers.
We stuck them in the snow to freeze, and like the advertising says….they really did satisfy!

One of the craziest things while we were on the lake, was the ice expanding.
We would hear these crazy loud cracks, and Bryan assured us we weren’t going under.
Apparently, when the ice freezes and expands, it pushes huge ice formations above and below the water line.
It kind of reminded me of a scene out of Superman.

It was the funnest trip.
It was warm, we caught tons of fish, we ate well, and we loved hanging sans kids.
And to top it off — we hit up Mall of America!
Talk about a great time!
Thanks Kelsi and Bryan.
