Polie is my family’s angel.
Scout just gave a talk on Polie that tells the story…here it is:
“Let me tell you the story of a lady named Polie.  Navy and I go to a school where you only speak Mandarin Chinese, and sometimes it is hard.  And when it is hard, my mom can’t help me, nor can my dad help me.  But one of my friend’s grandma — Polie, offered to help tutor us in Mandarin.  She is awesome.  She helps us three times a week.  And whenever my mom tried to pay her, she refuses to accept anything.  And do you know that when she comes to tutor us, she knows I love goldfish crackers, and brings us each a bag of them.  She also brings us apple pears that she peels and cuts up for us.  And if you think that is nice, get this!  When she recently heard Navy likes pomegranate seeds, Polie spends her television time at night picking out the seeds of a pomegranate one by one for Navy.  She is awesome!
Polie’s kindness reminds me of the scripture that says, “For behold I tell you these things, that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn that when you are in the service of your fellow beings, you are only in the service of your God.”
I hope to always be kind like Polie.
Because I know that when I do kind things for others, I am also doing something kind for my Heavely Father.
And that is why I love this woman as if she is my own grandmother.
And the best part…
She has my kids call he “Po Po”.  The same name her grandkids call her.  Because she says, “Scout and Navy are like my very own grandkids.”  She loves them so much, and the feeling is mutual on our side.
