This boy woke up this morning, and he was a year older! I really can’t believe that he is seven years old already! This year has brought a lot of milestones. A few teeth kicked out by angry girls. He learned how to go cross-eyed. He mastered roller blades. He can whistle with the best of them. His Chinese and math are coming along nicely. He has solidified his “best big brother” role to the Pips. And he has become more and more my best buddy!
Too bad for him that I am in the middle of planning a wedding, so his birthday was a little lame this year.
But breakfast was white donuts — his favorite.
And then he got “crowned” at school.
Then we met up with the Tackys and Seastrands at Yogurtland.
We ended the day at Chuck E Cheeses (his request) with RoRo, Grey, Seth and Cade + cousins.
They had a blast, and I am pretty sure he thought his birthday was anything but lame!
Especially when we came home to this loot from Missy!
(Of course there was a bucket for Navy also — because who wouldn’t get her something on Scout’s birthday!)
-
Happiest Birthday to you Scout!
It makes me sick that I only officially get you for 11 more years.
I always do Navy’s hair, and she always has a bow.
But on those few days where there is a little bit of extra time in the morning, we do fancy hair.
This day might have been the fanciest yet!
Dash comes out of his bed each morning with the biggest smile you have ever seen as he announces, “I here!” But within minutes, that smile usually turns into a grumpy face that groans and moans. It is my cue to feed the starving child. Because after this boy eats, his frown turns upside down, and we are back in business!
These guys “go to bed” at 7:30 each night. But they really go to bed at least an hour later. A lot of times there are injuries, fights, and other annoying things. But most of the time, they are the best of friends. Sometimes I hear Scout teaching Navy math or Chinese. Other times I hear them playing Go Fish. And almost always, I find them cuddled together while in dreamland. This night — with a whole lot of other animals. (My guess…they were playing zoo before bed?)
We made a deal with the kids, that if they memorize 50 scriptures each, we get to go on a cruise!
Lucky for us, they are excited and they are really great at memorizing.
I think Scout is around 20 deep, and Navy is bringing up the rear with 12.
I needed Dash’s head to see if Pippi’s bows were the right size.
And then I fell in love with my pseudo girl with the dirty face.
There is something about this boy that is the most darling and charming thing ever created!
I am SO SAD to report that Navy’s teasing bug has grown exponentially as she has put Dash in the teasing pool. She always has a hay day with Scout, but for a long time the baby was off limits. I think things changed when we got a new baby, and she realized that Dash is becoming big. Because, that poor Dash has quite the bugging big sister at the moment.
-
Now she has biting, hitting and kicking to contend with. Scout knows he isn’t allowed to touch her. But Dash is still a baby who “doesn’t know better”. So I give him a little extra time to take his frustrations out on her. Then I tell her it is karma.
-
And when I finally split them up into timeouts, Dash mumbles “I don’t even wike you Nazy!” while she sits with a defiant, evil smirk.
Looks like these 6-12 months leggings are finally done for.
It’s that time again!
Gretchen was game to teach, and I was game to bring!
Dash was so excited when he first saw Gretchen.
He went right away and held her hand.
Clearly, he had no idea what he was in for.
Then found his buddy Tommy — who had no idea what he was in for either!
He didn’t make a peep, although I think he might have been in shock.
But not bad for the youngest swimmer of four….cause he was the only one who didn’t cry.
(Again - I think it was because he was in shock.)
Because after his lesson, he just sat and stared and stared and stared as he sucked his victory sucker.
I think he may have had a bit of PTSD.
This is the response I get every single time I go in to get the Pips.
I love that she loves me!
Sometimes in the craziness of life….that ear to ear grin is all I need!
