While the adults were packing up, the kids were doing a little art.
This is Scout’s “picture of Britni”.
And Navy’s “hearts with candy” that she was going to give Bella.
Not bad my little artists.
The beauty of Midway is that there is TONS of stuff to do inside and outside. So no matter the elements, the kids are having fun. Here are just a few things our kids did while we were there:
Navy was the queen of snowballs. She would go out and make them for an hour. She was so content and proud of her work.
Dashy took a particular liking to the drum in the barn. At night, Britni would bang it rhythmically as the kids cleaned. The faster she got, the faster they needed to clean.
The kids played at the neighborhood playground for a few hours one afternoon.
Scout took to jumping in the snow.
While Navy headed down the slide.
Or made snow angels.
Every once in a while, they would all play some game on the IPad while sitting next to the fire.
Surprisingly, one of Navy’s favorite things to do while we were there, was wash and dry the dishes.
She would use dishes just so she could then clean them. It was like finding a little gold mine! I hope she likes it in California as much.
And one afternoon while she was washing/drying, she came up with a “Science Experiment”. There were a bunch of colored cups. So she gathered the boys around and asked them, “If I mix the colors red and blue, what color does it make?” They all had guesses, but then she put the red and blue cups together to show the color purple. They were loving it. In fact, the next day, RoRO grabbed the same cups and gathered everyone for his very own “Science experiment.”

Midway is awesome.
But the fact that there is nonstop fun for the kids is what makes it that way!
It was pretty frigid in Midway, but that didn’t stop the kids from being on their bikes and scooters.
At first they were inside, but I talked them into heading into the outdoors.
Poor Grey’s hands were pretty chilly.
Navy was struggling up the hill.
Dash sat inside all bundled up.
Until I got him outside with the gang.
When the bikes and scooters lost their appeal, the kids took to shoveling the front walk.
Scout loved chucking the snow over the rail.
Navy was fine tuning everything with the ice scraper.
And Dash just watched.
And then it was inside for a yummy lunch.
Midway has this very old-school bowling alley.
One afternoon we headed up there to have a little fun.
And of course, there is not any fun in it — if there isn’t a bet involved.
On the kid’s lane, they were just seeing who would win for fun.
But on the Britni, Micah, Lindsey game, we were seeing who would have to go home and “not lift a finger for the rest of the night”.
Clearly, that was a huge bet to win.
There was still cooking, bathing, putting the kids down, etc.
There were a few timeouts during our bowling because this character kept making his way down the lanes.
After a very intense game, I would like to report that the “L” you see above is attached to Lindsey.
And that night I sat on my rump on the couch and didn’t do one thing.
It was heaven.
Afterwards we got some of the bowling alley food which was yummy.
But poor Micah whose food got tampered with while he went to the bathroom.
But how could you be mad at this little stuffed face?!
It was an excellent time.
Until I thought I was too hot to trot, and wanted to do nothing the following night also.
But too bad for me, Micah finally got his groove back, and took game two.
What a rip!
Just want to make sure we have a picture of Micah’s permanent place in Midway on record!
Why gloves in the house you ask?
Michael Jackson was just moisturizing his hands under there.
It was a late night, and everyone was asleep, so I took the kids for a breakfast date.
Kneaders had pancakes and french toast — perfect!
The kids devoured it all.
And on our way home….after Crazy Dog Alley….I wanted all of the kids to get some of their sugar rush out of them.
So I made them run home.
Scout decided it should be a “Freeze Out” and took his shirt off, and everyone else followed suit.
I think it was about 30 degrees.
But Grey pumped those arms and was plenty warm.
In the meantime, Navy summoned me over so she could hop in the warm car.
The poor girl was panting because of the high altitude.
When the boys got home, they were pretty beat.
But they still managed to find a little energy to show off their muscles.
J took us out on a Ranger Ride while we were in Midway.
We were on a hunt to find 8 different types of animals, and then go pick up pizza.
But we had to gear up in our Daniel Boone hats I found at the Kings earlier that day.
Talk about looking cool!
Dashy had to settle for a cute beenie.
These four were ready to go.
Our favorite spotting was a group of horses that were peeking over their gate.
We stopped for a pet.
One of the horses got a little too close to Scout.
But in return, RoRo might have gotten a little too close for the horse!
-
We did it — we found all 8 animals. And while we were getting Pizza, J took the boys down Crazy Dog Alley, where four dogs were ready to rip the heads off of the children.
You would think they would have been freaked out.
No.
During our stay at Midway, the kids made me return to Crazy Dog Alley about 6 times!
We drove up to Midway to visit the Seastrands.
It was our third annual, and we die over this trip.
It is relaxing, fun and we have the best cohorts in crime - who love food and sitting in front of the television each night - to spend it with.
After the entire first day of doing nothing but eat good food, we decided to head up to Soldier’s Hollow for an afternoon of sledding.
Can you tell that Sweet Thing was excited?
Britni and I sat at the bottom as the guys took the kids up and down.
At one point, Dash wanted to go.
Scout even put him in his tube.
But unfortunately he was too little to go.
All four kids were off and ready to go!
While poor little Dashy watched.
Micah took Scout and Navy down a few times.
And J took RoRo and Grey down.
Then the kids got brave and decided to go themselves.
I was so proud of Scout who organized the kid runs, and helped carry Grey up the hill.
I love this picture of RoRo and Navy where Icka can barely see.
Meanwhile, I took Dash for a few runs on the tiny bunny hill.
He loved it!
And when I stopped taking him, he scooted/sled himself the whole way down on his own.
And then stopped for a refreshing lick of snow.

We loved Soldier’s Hollow.
We love Midway!
Scout and I rushed to Navy’s school after his Valentine party to hers. Luckily we made it in time!
And luckily Nonnie was able to get Navy in a Valentine get up and there on time. It was a hectic morning, but everything turned out perfectly.
Navy had the most darling performance — including my very favorite “If you don’t walk as most people do”.
She is definitely the only girl there, because this girl was a star!
She sang as loud as you can imagine, and made Nonnie and me proud!
Until she decided to sit like a man!
I guess when in Rome!
After the performance, she passed out her Valentines.
This is supposed to be her. I sketched it on Illustrator, and we attached it to some Bubble Tape.
And here is her mailbox where she collected every ones goodies to her.
We skipped out immediately after the party, because we had a long drive to Utah to follow.
The day before Valentine’s Day, Scout and I snapped a few pictures that looked a little crazy.
But they had a purpose….
Which was to create Scout’s Valentine mailbox!
Darling if I don’t say so myself!
We also put together his Valentines to give everyone.
Scout was SO excited to give everyone some Big League Chew.
(I was excited to use my new Illustrator skills!)
I was in charge of the party, so we played Valentine Pictionary while a few kids at a time passed out their Valentines.
Look at Scout’s winning picture of “School”.
Too bad he got DQ’d by me for not following the rules!
It was really fun, but we both had to scram as fast as we could to make Navy’s party, and then head to Utah for winter break!
