I have been teaching Scout lately about how to choose the right.  We have had a family night on it and we have also been trying to reiterate it daily life.  Problem is….it is hard to teach in the heat of the moment.  So we were at Deseret Book the other day, and I saw little stickers that say CTR and Choose The Right on them.  He is really into stickers from his swim teacher, so we bought them to work their magic.  Then at the checkout counter, I saw “Chews The Right” gum, and told him that if he chose the right all day, and was a really good boy, he would get his gum at night.  He was totally into it….until the first episode occured.

I wasn’t finished checking out, and Scout made his way over to a monopoly game.  He wanted to play, and started pulling the plastic cover off.  It was about half way off when I caught him.  I told him that what he did wasn’t choosing the right, but if he apologized to the workers, it would be okay.  (By this time, he already had his sticker on his hand.)  After about six times of telling him that he needed to apologize, and him suddenly becoming a mute, I excused myself from the checkout counter.  We went and talked about his sticker, and the gum for later that night.  We also talked about if someone broke something of his, how it would make him sad.  Something in our “talk” clicked, and he headed right back and looked in the mans eyes and said sorry.  He was a humble little thing…it was so cute.

He was pretty good the rest of the day, and got his gum.  The next day was hilly….it had ups and downs.  Yesterday was awesome.  He would think to do something naughty, and then I would remind him of his sticker, and he would be good.  I proudly presented him with his gum last night.  What a good little boy.
