For the fourth year in a row, Micah teamed up with Calin, and Skilly was my teammate for some serious pumpkin carving. Points are awarded for creativity, execution, and also for the story/presentation that goes with our pumpkin. This year we were allotted one hour to clean out, carve and prepare our presentation. Here we see Calin and Micah heading to the Internet for some “original” ideas.
Here you see Skylar eavesdropping on their plans. Nothing like that to give us an edge!
We had all watched the Food Network Pumpkin Carving Challenge the night before to give us unknown tips and tricks, so we were all geared up to go. Micah and Calin had some pretty big shoes to fill, as they were attempting to create a 3D pumpkin like we had seen the night before. Skilly and I were more interested to get a clean and crisp look that immediately got a reaction, instead of needing an entire story to explain the scene.
After about 30 minutes, Micah and Calin finally gave in to what Skylar and I had known the entire time….they bit of WAY more than they could chew. They started to whisper to eachother and you could tell they were scrambling. I had the ultimate trash talker in Skylar as she taunted them during their time of fear. Then all of a sudden Micah started giggling. Then he whispered something in Calin’s ear and the two of them couldn’t stop laughing. I even saw Micah wipe a few tears away. What could be so funny about taking last place????
When the judges arrived, and the presentations were made, Skylar choked and I had to get up and present. All in all, it was a fine presentation with some strong emotional ties to the one and only…Scout…who all of the judges are in love with. Presenting…….”A Mummy and her Boy”…..
Very cute….right! I could tell that the judges were very impressed. I could tell that Scout, one of the new judges this year was very excited about the “baby” pumpkin that he kept clawing for. Then came the other team’s presentation. Micah got up and said (in a pirate’s voice), “This is ‘Where’s my BOOTY’”……(I guess you could kind of tell it was something like a pirate, so I guess it was kind a of a cute-ish pumpkin.
Then Micah turned the pumpkin, started giggling and reverted to the pirate accent to say, “Ahoy! There’s my booty!”
I guess when you are on to plan B in a pumpkin carving contest, you turn straight to potty humor. I am embarassed to say that the judges got a real kick out of the potty humor, and laughed right along with Micah and Calin.
When the voting came out……
Micah and Calin - 4
Me and Skilly - 0
Are you kidding me! Real classy folks…..real classy! The only saving grace was when Tristen did admit that our pumpkin was perfect for Martha Stewart, but their pumpkin was perfect for YouTube…..and she just happens to be more YouTubey. Did anyone ever tell you that YouTube is a synonym for white trash?
