My husband kept trying to convince me that I should pick my beautiful watermelon that was growing in my garden. Because he is the gardening KIA (that is an acronym for Know-It-All that I use more times than I would like), he told me that it was a mini watermelon, and was probably ruined by now because I have waited so long to pick it. So I reluctantly picked, because the guy is so stinking convincing…..and low and behold…….I picked too early! All of my precious months of gardening and waiting patiently….gone to waste! I do give him a bit of credit though. He was kind of basing it off of my corn all going bad because I waited too long….AND it was only early by a week or two. Still somewhat edible - but not great. But the beauty of the whole episode is that we made a deal. If it wasn’t good because of a premature picking, he had to eat the whole thing. Meanwhile, it is cut in half and sitting in our fridge to cool down, because the watermelon KIA knows exactly how to prepare the perfectly delicious watermelon.
Side note: Look at the “fruit” of my labors…….how cute is the mini red bell pepper!
