Walking Group

When it rains, the “walking group” gets rides from the moms.  I don’t drive often, but when I do, we always have time for a quick donut stop.  The kids love my car because of that perk.  I’m just not so sure that my true-blue riders will keep picking my car, with the crushing five year old who always tackles and wrestles them.  Poor Mack today, who is too chivalrous to fight back, but who took quite the beating!

Dash’s creation, using every last magnet.
Yesterday, it was a farm, tomorrow it’ll be something else that takes his imagination on a ride.

Count ‘em…11 kids with two adults.
Mario is a saint every single Wednesday.
And Britni and I are the thing above saint!

At this point, Navy has mastered every braid I know to teach.
I’m setting you free like a little bird Navy…to now learn from people who know what the heck they are talking about!

Avoidance

Dash and Scout’s room is almost complete.  I told the boys how it is a hard fast rule that the room is spotless each morning before school — which obviously includes making the bed.  Well, guess who is solving his own problem of having to make the bed each morning!  Dash has slept on the ground for a week now, and says he loves it down there.  I obviously know it is to avoid making his bed in the morning…but here is my dirty little secret…I did the same thing when I was little.  And truth be told…when I bought my first house, and had my first king bed — I pulled up the coverlet on the end of the bed, and slept there each night, to avoid redoing my many pillows the next morning!
I like your move Dash.  But spotless also means no unruly blankets on the ground in the morning before school!

100%

Scout tested in to 7th grade accelerated math for the year.  He is very good at math, but this year has been quite the adjustment.  First of all, math taught in Chinese is opposite than English math.  For example, if there is a fraction that is 1/4 — we call it one fourth.  Well, in Chinese, it is called four ones.  There have been a lot of things he has had to unlearn from Chinese…but he finally tackled all of that.  Then there is Moby Max — the computer program from you know where!  Scout has a whole lot of homework on it every night — and the assignments never stop coming!  He had to adjust to lots of math homework every night…and he is getting that down.  Then there is the “show your work” rule.  This has been Scout’s hardest adjustment, because he is constantly getting half or no credit because he can do the math in his head.  We keep telling him rules are rules, and math will soon be too difficult to do in his head…but this still causes problems.  And finally, there is the math itself.  He skipped from fifth grade math to seventh grade — accelerated math.  that too has been a challenge…but he is getting there.

So after all of these bumps in Scout’s math road…when he came home with this 100% on his latest math test…we were all freaking out!  He knew all of the math, he showed his work, he didn’t make rushed mistakes….and he DOMINATED!!!
Nice work Scout!
We are all really proud.
And the best part…is that he is really proud of himself!

Ready to tackle the day.

Gift Bags

Pippi had the urge to get rid of some of her stuffed animals as gifts to Sterdy and Goldi.  Well, I knew Britni wouldn’t hear of taking them home, so we made the plan fool proof.

Pippi and I made gift bags for each of them, and their love for their stuff would most certainly get their loot home.

Pippi worked hard getting just the right stuff, and writing on the back.
When the kids came…our plan worked like magic!
The kids were excited to get gift bags — as was Britni.  Then they opened their loot, and they were even more excited at Pippi’s kindness (who gave Sterdy our Elf on the Shelf).  Meanwhile, Britni gave me the eye, and the “no no” nod.  I just kept pumping the kids up on their stuff…and I am happy to report, that our stuffed animal basket is shy eight crappy items!
Boo Yeah!

Date Night

For Christmas, I gave Micah some date nights.
Tonight, we are headed to the symphony to hear my favorite — Chopin.
But first thing is first.
What to wear?

Micah turned to the best stylist we’ve got, and was soon wearing a blue windowpane dress shirt, with grey slacks.
He looked might fine!

And after delicious kim chee fried rice across the street, we headed to our nosebleed seats, where Chopin transcended.
In the end…we will return for the fried rice, we will return to Segerstrom, we will return to the nosebleeds for the view and privacy, and we will return to date nights….which are highly underrated for married couples…but in our eyes…a must!

Kook Slam

I had just put the kids all to bed, and was finalizing my night in front of the TV.  All of a sudden, I heard a cry come from Navy, that is the kind of cry you need to check out.  We met in the hall, and I asked what on earth had happened in the 25 seconds since I had left her room.
She said that she had to get up and tell me one last thing before bed, and ran right into the wall.  I asked her if it was the same wall that has been there for the last 11 years we have lived here.
Yep.
I turned on the light, and she was holding her mouth…specifically her tooth.
Her tooth seemed fine, but had a little…DRYWALL?????
img_5288-2019-01-09-at-20-58-47.jpg
HOLY COW!
She actually ran into the wall, leading with her tooth, and took a chunk right out of it!
img_5286-2019-01-09-at-20-57-51.jpg
And we will have the damage to prove that story for the many years to come!
