Dear Heavenly Father…..(by this time he is completely sprawled out on the ground because kneeling and folding is too hard)…Thank you for this day….and my mommy….and daddy….and baby Icka….and mommy….and BKaNayNay…..and daddy….(he is at this point totally rolling around, and pausing as he thinks really hard about what to say, even though he just says the same thing over and over)…..and baby Icka…..and Nonnie…..(he now is looking around the room)…and this remote….and this pillow….and this toy…(I try to regroup and say “in the name”)…and then he just shouts Amen!
Reverent — not so much. Cute — very!
Scout finished his dinner last night and stood up on his chair and asked, “mommy, will you please get me down?” I told him, “Scout, I am so happy….you were such a good boy at dinner tonight. And thank you for asking nicely to get down.” Then I gave him a big kiss and got him down. As I was holding him to get him down he said, “Did you get tears in your eyes cause you’re so happy?” I hadn’t, but after that comment I did.
On a different note, Scout has recently been known to throw a tantrum or two. I am SO not into them and really wanted a way to curb them. I tried time outs, ignoring them and a few others….all to no avail. But then a stroke of genius came over me, and I have figured out a pretty decent trick. As soon as Scout turns on the tantrum, I put my fingers in my ears so he sees me, and all but once, he has calmed down and then said, “Mommy, will you please take the teeny tiny microscopic fleck of pepper off of my food that is grossing me out.” Maybe that is more detail than he says, but he does ask nicely with a please and thank you. Glad I have this on up my sleeve.
The best part of this playgroup is that on Sunday he exclaimed, “YEAH….I get to go to nursery!” Why wasn’t he in this playgroup a year ago?
After I did this to Scout:

Covey Lovey wanted the same thing…

Too bad his older brothers can read, and told him the bad news.
This kid is a total charmer. Definitely in the sense of him saying things that are cute and charming. But what I am really talking about is the kind of “charm” that is on the sly. Already at 2 years old, you know this kid is going to know how to work his magic to get things in life. Like last night, BKaNayNay were leaving. As they drove off, he was calling out, “bye” as he waved. When they got to the end of the cul-de-sac and turned around, they rolled down their windows to say goodbye one last time. Scout lifted his arms in the air like an evangelist and said, “goodbye….have a bootiful day!” They were dying.
I remember in a letter that Micah wrote me years ago, he told me I was charming, and I took it as one of my favorite compliments ever. I am glad to pass the compliment on to my boy who definitely inherited the gene.

Sidenote: If things ever go south for him, he could definitely have a career with snakes.
It is really unbelievable that my little Icka is already 8 months. It is also unbelievable how different my two children were at this age. Scout was my little lump on a log who wasn’t even crawling at this point. Icka is completely opposite. She has been crawling for what seems like forever. She is constantly standing up against anything, and then lets go and stands for a bit. I caught her half way up Scout’s slide yesterday, and when she saw me, she balanced her three limbs and waved at me with the last. I made an announcement in Relief Society yesterday that she has no interest in sitting on my lap, and only wants to crawl everywhere, so for everyone to guard their purses. She is also a really happy baby with constant smiles. Unlike Scout who at the same age thought everyone around his was an idiot. She has really turned into a nice and happy little baby. Her spitting up is basically nonexistent anymore, and she is my little sidekick. She is adored by everyone, and she is in absolute love with Trilby, Scout and her mother. Lucky me!

Here is the little terror half way out of her sleepcoat in the morning.
Scout said his very first real prayer by himself. In the past, he just says, “Dear Heavenly Father…Jesus Christ….Amen” about three times fast. I keep trying to explain that there is a whole in between part, and I guess he finally grasped the concept. So last night it was more like, “Heavenly Father….thank you for my famiwy….and my blessings….and Icka….and my famiwy….and Icka…..Jesus Christ…Amen.” As he finished up, he looked at me and I showed him that I had tears in my eyes. He asked “why you have tears?” I told him it was because I was so happy. Then I went on to say our family prayer, and he could barely sit still until the amen. As soon as I was finished, he looked right in my eyes and said, “you got tears dis time cuz you happy?” Pretty cute!
I was doing a favor for Tristen yesterday morning, so I had her watch Icka and Scout. It went a little like this….Icka was up first, so I took her to where Belly was sleeping. (Mind you it was about 7:30.) I checked up on them five minutes later, and I found Belly snoozing while Icka was in her highchair next to the bed with tons of cheerios everywhere. It only got worse, as she brought both kids into the computer I was working on (FOR HER!) and she started to fall asleep on the chair. After I reminded her that she was in charge, she retrieved the cheerios again. This time she let Scout have the whole bag and told him to feed Icka one at a time. Too bad that the joke was on her.

Scout eating them like a dog.

Icka joined in.

And the classic Tristen….here she is saying “don’t take a picture of me”, and the kicker….. (a direct quote), “good thing the cleaners come today.” Is she kidding?!
(I will note that all but about 10 were picked up soon after.)
Icka has the cutest trick ever. Unlike most babies who wave by opening and closing their hands over and over, Icka waves like the Queen. She has an open hand, and rotates her wrist ever so slightly. I am not exactly sure where she picked it up, but she does it nonstop. Especially to her current favorite….Trilby.

(Blurry, but the best pic I could get.)
