I’m The Mom….
The Day Of the Mother
Our 103 and 101ers
Scout and Navy have become quite the sickies lately. It started with Icka on Thursday morning who woke up with a slight fever. It didn’t seem like a huge deal, and we headed down to Jakey’s last track meet. Scout was in great spirits until the end of the day, when his fever came on and even his cousins couldn’t make him happy. The next four days were feverlicious! Scout had a constant 103 temperature unless his medicine broke it for a few hours. Navy was constantly at 101 unless her meds kicked in. There aren’t any other nasty things going on — thank goodness.
The good part was how sweet my kids turned when they were sick. Scout must have asked, “Mom, will you please hold me” 50 times every day. He wanted life to be like it normally is, and wanted to ride bikes, go swimming, eat food — including Denny’s. So we would attempt everything, but after one bite or pedal, he was tapped out. Icka was sweet, she even let me hold her at times. But the real miracle was when she would get in her car seat and only “tell” me she wanted out a few times. It was a far cry from her mind-numbing, constant screaming.
Scout did a lot of sleeping. He also did a lot of breathing out of his mouth, and his breath smelled REALLY bad. I definitely earned my Mother’s Day when I slept with him through the night and he kept saying, “turn this way”.
Here’s my girl…doing what she does best.
He had this glazed over look the entire time.
But who am I kidding, I am acting like we are out of the woods. Going into day 5, Scout woke up feverless, but my bet is that it’s lurking. And Icka….well she is just drooling like crazy and getting her final teeth — the vampire teeth. You know the ones. The ones that hurt teething babies the most. SWEET!

Matchers
I have found it nearly impossible to match my two kids. So when any opportunity arises for one of my kids to match anyone, I take it.
Here Icka and I are in our matching silver sparkly Toms.
And I couldn’t resist these two guys in matching stripes.
Sleep Rituals With My Boy
Ever since Scout was a baby, I would put my hand on his cheek until he would fall asleep. I still do this today if I happen to be next to him while he is falling asleep. But nothing is better than when I happen to be falling asleep with him, and he returns the favor. He puts his little hand on my cheek (and mine is on his), and we fall asleep together. It has some sort of soothing effect, because we both are in La La Land in no time.
And then when he runs down to my bed after he gets up, he has his own way of waking me up. He starts kissing me all over my face (or my back if I am turned) really fast until I open my eyes. I usually wait a little longer than I should because I am in love with those kisses.
But if we are playing around, and I “pretend” to be asleep, he has a different way of waking me up. He yells “Honk Honk”, and it is an unspoken rule that I have to immediately open my eyes. I once tried to “stay asleep”, but I got in trouble because I wasn’t following the rules. This little boy of mine is all time. He is the sweetest and cutest and nicest 3 year old boy I know. (But –I cringe to admit– I think Icka is influencing him to be naughtier. Not because he is reacting to her. Because when she is so stinky, I usually laugh at her — so he is going for the laughs.)

A Love Affair
Last night, Trilby was trying to explain how “Nonnie” was Scout’s grandma. He doesn’t understand that “Grandma” and “Nonnie” are synonymous. After a few minutes of explaining. Scout finally wanted to set the record straight. He interrupted B and said, “No B — Nonnie is not my grandma…..Nonnie is my girlfriend!”
