And nothing makes me happier.

The Day Of the Mother

While I spent the day honoring my mother — by getting her “The Giving Tree” by Ryan Ure…I mean Shel Silverstein — Tristen had other ideas.

Like taping my mom’s mouth shut while she did her lashes.
Happy Mother’s Day Mom.

Our 103 and 101ers

Scout and Navy have become quite the sickies lately.  It started with Icka on Thursday morning who woke up with a slight fever.  It didn’t seem like a huge deal, and we headed down to Jakey’s last track meet.  Scout was in great spirits until the end of the day, when his fever came on and even his cousins couldn’t make him happy.  The next four days were feverlicious!  Scout had a constant 103 temperature unless his medicine broke it for a few hours.  Navy was constantly at 101 unless her meds kicked in.  There aren’t any other nasty things going on — thank goodness.

The good part was how sweet my kids turned when they were sick.  Scout must have asked, “Mom, will you please hold me” 50 times every day.  He wanted life to be like it normally is, and wanted to ride bikes, go swimming, eat food — including Denny’s.  So we would attempt everything, but after one bite or pedal, he was tapped out.  Icka was sweet, she even let me hold her at times.  But the real miracle was when she would get in her car seat and only “tell” me she wanted out a few times.  It was a far cry from her mind-numbing, constant screaming.

Scout did a lot of sleeping.  He also did a lot of breathing out of his mouth, and his breath smelled REALLY bad.  I definitely earned my Mother’s Day when I slept with him through the night and he kept saying, “turn this way”.

Here’s my girl…doing what she does best.

p1080371.jpg

He had this glazed over look the entire time.

But who am I kidding, I am acting like we are out of the woods.  Going into day 5, Scout woke up feverless, but my bet is that it’s lurking.  And Icka….well she is just drooling like crazy and getting her final teeth — the vampire teeth.  You know the ones.  The ones that hurt teething babies the most.  SWEET!

Siblings

Is catching on to her:

A few nights ago, Scout was having his night terrors and came into bed with Micah and me.  He cuddled right up, and went fast asleep.  After a few hours of snoozing, I was awakened abruptly by Scout sitting up and shouting….”ICKA!!!!”  He then laid back down and slept soundly.
How sad is it that Icka is a source of his night terrors.  And it somewhat manifests itself when Icka tries to kiss Scout every morning when she wakes up.  He used to happily take the kiss, but he now tries to refuse them.  (Don’t worry…I force the issue.)  I wonder if this stems back to the fight they were in during his dreams?!  Poor Icka — guilty by imaginated association.

Puzzles

Scout is really loving puzzles lately.  B got him into them, and he has gotten pretty good.  He finished this one completely by himself.  The only catch is that we have to do them when nobody named Sissy or Icka or Navy is around.  The little monster likes to see the pieces in her hand more than in a completed project.

Thanks to the Tackys for this little gem.
Also to the Silvesters for some sweet animal tattoos that he is sporting.

Matchers

I have found it nearly impossible to match my two kids.  So when any opportunity arises for one of my kids to match anyone, I take it.

Here Icka and I are in our matching silver sparkly Toms.

And I couldn’t resist these two guys in matching stripes.

Sleep Rituals With My Boy

Ever since Scout was a baby, I would put my hand on his cheek until he would fall asleep.  I still do this today if I happen to be next to him while he is falling asleep.  But nothing is better than when I happen to be falling asleep with him, and he returns the favor.  He puts his little hand on my cheek (and mine is on his), and we fall asleep together.  It has some sort of soothing effect, because we both are in La La Land in no time.

And then when he runs down to my bed after he gets up, he has his own way of waking me up.  He starts kissing me all over my face (or my back if I am turned) really fast until I open my eyes.  I usually wait a little longer than I should because I am in love with those kisses.

But if we are playing around, and I “pretend” to be asleep, he has a different way of waking me up.  He yells “Honk Honk”, and it is an unspoken rule that I have to immediately open my eyes.  I once tried to “stay asleep”, but I got in trouble because I wasn’t following the rules.  This little boy of mine is all time.  He is the sweetest and cutest and nicest 3 year old boy I know.  (But –I cringe to admit– I think Icka is influencing him to be naughtier.  Not because he is reacting to her.  Because when she is so stinky, I usually laugh at her — so he is going for the laughs.)

Pathetic

From what I have always known…being with my family is the safest place to be.  So when I left my adorable, perfectly complected, little one year old girl with my three sisters (two of which are mothers) and my mom, I thought my girl was in good hands.

Look at that sweet thing roaming in the bottom of the picture.
About ten minutes later, I found out I was wrong about them.  Lazy pieces of junk!
Especially you in those heinous glasses on the right.

My poor girl with the perfect skin now has three ugly raspberries across the right side of her face.

No wonder that when I was a Costco and my girl had a full blown tantrum as I held her and pushed the cart around with my other hand, that nobody helped.  They were probably secretly dialing Child Protective Services because of her bashed up face.

A Love Affair

dsc_173.jpg

Last night, Trilby was trying to explain how “Nonnie” was Scout’s grandma.  He doesn’t understand that “Grandma” and “Nonnie” are synonymous.  After a few minutes of explaining.  Scout finally wanted to set the record straight.  He interrupted B and said, “No B — Nonnie is not my grandma…..Nonnie is my girlfriend!”

An Athlete?

Ickity Dickity Dock had her first Mom & Me Gymnastics class and loved it.  Royal and Britni came along which made it extra fun.  She was decent at following directions, and above decent at all of the activities.  It was a nonstop class — perfect for Icka, and I was a sweaty mess by the end.
p1080192.jpg
Belly came to watch, and pitched in so I could take pictures.  Icka loved the beam.
p1080188.jpg
She loved racing Royal on the tumble tracks.
But out of everything….she loved the pull up bar the most.  All of the kids were practicing holding on and dropped off after a few seconds or so.  Icka — the youngest in the class — held on to that bar for
5 seconds…..
p1080193.jpg
10 seconds…..
20 seconds…..
p1080195.jpg
30 seconds…..
40 seconds…..
p1080194.jpg
We were dying!  She might have the world record for a 15 month old!  She held on, without even a struggle for about 40 seconds.  At that point I told Tristen to take her down, because she was two feet off the ground, and I didn’t want her to fall and get hurt.
I think this might be her calling.
I also think that all of this energy that oozes from her pores each day might translate into athleticism.
I pray that it translates into something!
