Each and every night, Dash runs into Nonnie’s room to swipe one of her little water bottles.
Then he takes a few sips before bed.
And when he wakes in the middle of the night, he takes his DayDay and that water bottle with him, to his final resting place.
Last night, it was right between me and Micah.
So when I woke up, I felt the littlest warm body next to me, alongside a knobby dayday, and half-full, crinkled water bottle.
This morning, I tried every trick in the book to get some oatmeal into my starving Pippi.
But the stubborn child would flail and fling until the oatmeal would end up on the walls, down the front of her, or on the floor.
Cue music…..of a superhero flying in to save the day.
Scout grabbed the exact same spoon.
Then spooned some of the exact same oatmeal towards her.
Her response?
A big, open-wide mouth!
Scout just has those baby-whispering genes.
If someone else gets the Pips out of bed, I get this little head peeking over, while her little hand is trying to rock me awake…as soon as she tracks me down.
From farmhouse to victorian mansion.
From humble to grand.
From understated to overstated.
Micah and I couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw our old house’s evolution.
These three are thick as thieves.
They play together so well….and get in trouble together so well.
Like about three minutes before this picture, when the property owner yelled at them for making a bike track down her hill.
My kids have grown to love “The Old Grandma” (named Alex).
We collect all of our bottles until we see her collecting them, and then give ours to her. Then my kids always add in a bit of their own money (or mine if they don’t have any — but they usually do).
So today, as we were driving, we saw her.
Navy was so excited, so we U-Turned to catch her at the next driveway.
But we were a bit far, so my kids insisted on walking.
Navy and Dash grabbed all of our bottles, and started towards her.
She gets so excited to see them, and always says, “God Bless, God Bless….you are beautiful!”
Then I went out to talk to her for a minute.
I asked her how she was, and told her my kids call her “Grandma”.
Then I asked about her own kids and grandkids — all of which are in Columbia.
She said she is lonely without them, but thinks of my own kids as her grandkids.
And as she said it, she got big tears in her eyes, and so did I.

As we got in the car and went to pick up Scout, I told them all the story, and we decided that the next time we see Alex, we want to invite her to dinner.
And you better believe that each time we are in the car, my kids are searching for the Old Grandma.
Scout was awarded with “Most Improved” by his Basketball coaches last night!
We were all super excited, and in agreement.
He came along way in one season.
And we have this guy to thank.
Nice work Nate.
I thought Scout was going to be the clown in the family — and he is.
But I think Dash is coming in at a close second.
Even though it totally hurt him, because he was getting laughs, he put this chip clip on his nose over and over.
I’m not sure if this whole comedian thing is in the genes…or a case of “monkey see, monkey do”.
After a five minute tantrum from the Pips, I looked over at Dash, and he was telling me how much he loves me.
My mom always tells me how lucky I am to have the “sweetest child ever created”, but it is times like this that reiterate her words.
This girl uses her size to her advantage.
She is able to weasel her way out of a ton of stuff because she is little enough to twist and maneuver.
Most days, I see her handiwork when I get her out of her bed — when she is without clothes.
But today, under her 5-point harness, she somehow was in the process of getting undressed.
Impressive.
