Summer Concert Series

cimg0659.jpg

Summer is officially here!  Last summer, Micah and I discovered the Dana Point Summer Concert Series, and had a blast at them.  Each Sunday afternoon, Micah head down to the Dana Point Harbor to have a picnic and listen to some fun music.  There is a serious turn out with hundreds -maybe even thousand- of people there.  They have a different theme each week such as rock and roll, reggae, classic rock or cover songs.

This year Micah found out that there are summer concerts in a lot of cities.  So he put together a calendar of where each was, and what genre the music was.  A little overboard -I Know!  But because of his calendar, we hit up the “Music Under the Stars” in San Juan Capistrano wednesday night.  My mom, Tristen, Calin, Skylar and most importantly…Scout joined in on the fun. (He hung out in Belly’s pirate holder -see picture)  Beyond the music, there were local vendors, and local restaurants like the Sundried Tomato, and Cedar Creek Inn had food available.

All of the girls but my mom got up and danced most of the time.  And Micah went around and collected everything he could read from the vendors and hung out on the blanket.  My mom also hung out on the blanket and watched and laughed as Tristen would dance behind people who didn’t know she was there.  But the classic of the night was when we all got back to the blanket, and my mom saw a handfull of older people (50’s - 60’s) near us dancing in a group.  My mom leaned over like she had a secret, but instead she innocently and quietly asked, “Is that a mosh pit?”  Tristen and I cracked up!

Lindsey the Homemaker!

I figured it was about time to get my rear in gear.  The baby is 7 weeks old, I am no longer working, and it is time to be the homemaker.  I have commited to cooking dinner Monday - Thursday (Friday is date night, Saturday is a free for all, and my mom cooks on Sunday)!  I wouldn’t call myself a culinary genious, but I certainly have a good mentor in my mom.  I started out with homemade BBQ’d hamburgers with all of the fixings and fresh fruit.  They were to die for, and I even added special touches - I stuffed Micah’s with bleu cheese (his favorite) and I buttered and toasted the buns.  BUT I had a plan B.  In case they didn’t turn out the way they were supposed to, I had a sidetracking plan in play.  Micah has said he has been needing some casual business clothes, and a few summer things.  So I went shopping the same day and had a stack of presents ready for him to open.  The beauty of it all is that he loved the burgers AND the clothes!

Time for Charity

Micah, Tristen, my Mom, Trilby and I went to a My Ocean charity event last night.  It was very fun, with fabulous food, a Chris Isaak Concert, freebies, a silent auction and a live auction.  As Micah and I walked around the silent auction, I saw about twenty things I wanted to bid on.  Most consisted of extravagant vacations in exotic places, but when they announced 30 seconds left, we were at the cheapest of the four tables.  This is where the local venues, (Orange County Philharmonic Society, Opera houses, Sports stadiums, etc.) put things up to auction on.  When they announced 5 seconds, I saw the paper with “Medievil Times” on it.  The next bid was for $75.00, and I have always wanted to go, so I slapped my pre-registered sticker on it, and they called TIME!  I was the lucky recipient of two tickets, to a place I get to eat with my hands and enjoy the show! Micah was just glad that at the five second mark I wasn’t near the three night stay at the Montage, or any of the first class trips!

After the silent auction and dinner, they had their live auction.  Two fun things transpired.  I bid on a seven night stay at a first class resort in Fiji -including airfare, butler service and about everything else- but was outbid by about $20,000 in the end.  Micah just laughed, but my mom was about to have a heart attack.  The other cool thing that transpired was Hadi, Trilby’s boss, made the largest bid on a single item in the history of Orange County.  He is now the proud owner of a Rolls Royce Phantom with every bell and whistle for a measly $310,000.

We always have a great time at the charity events.  But nothing topped last year when Kenny Loggins put on the concert, and he publicly dedicated a song to “Lindsey Denison” and then leaned down and kissed me right on the lips!  I wasn’t all that thrilled, but every middle aged woman around me was so jealous, that I did take a little pride in the whole thing!

My Mom…the Encourager! Part II

So in this week’s People that my mom tossed my way, there is an article named, “Bikini Body - After Baby”.  It features Brooke Burke five months after she had her baby.  My reply is this:

1. I am only 1.5 months out, so I will see you in five months!

2. I am more of a “tank-ini” type of girl!

3. I know, I know!  Which is why I signed up for a 12K on September 1st, 2007.  It equates to just over 7 miles, and looks pretty fun.  I have gotten a few people to run it with me for moral support, but anyone else interested is welcome.  Micah put together a training schedule for me, and I got clearance from my doctor just this morning to get going on the jogging.  I am excited, and my first small jog today went well.  I didn’t have to stop at all!  But I won’t write down how slow I went or how short a run it was!

Home From Vegas

cutie.jpg

Scout and I had a great time in Vegas!  We hung out by the pool, went on walks to the park, went to fun restaurants, played with the boys, etc.  On our ride home, Scout was a bit fussy on and off.  I think he had a bit of a bad tummy, but we made it alright and the silver lining is….that night he slept from 8:30 pm to 5:00 am the next morning!

Everyone was SO excited to see him.  He was literally mauled the second he got in the door.  We had a great time, but are glad to be back!

Happy 2nd Anniversary!

Micah and I are going on our 2nd year anniversary!  So to surprise him, I planned a weekend away with the two us and the babe.  We headed out to Lake Las Vegas and spent the weekend at the Ritz Carlton.  We had an absolute blast, and everything was perfect.  We basically relaxed all weekend long.  Some of the highlights were — Lounging by the pool ordering virgin Pina Coladas and yummy food,  Going to the local jazz concert on the lake where we got take-out from a restaurant and hung out on the grass hill, staying in our room with Scout and ordering a good movie, and finally having the Seth and Brett clan come out and meet up with us at the lagoon for a few fun hours!

It has been a while since Micah and I went away together, so it was extra fun.  But the cherry on top was having a little baby with us who was perfect the entire time!  I think this is what life is all about!

Micah had to get to work so he took a flight home Sunday night, and I am staying in Vegas with Seth and Brett for a few days for a little more relaxation.  If you call 6 boys under the age of 7 relaxing. But so far we have had a good time that has involved a lot of swimming and sun!

D-E-N-I-S-O-N!!!

It is official….I am finally a Denison!  It only took me almost two years, but I finally made my way down to the Social Security office and changed my name from Ure to Denison.  Woops!  It isn’t that I wasn’t going to do it, I just knew it was going to be a HUGE hassle - and it was!

Since I have been married, it never really was an issue until I was in the hospital having our baby.  But when they were wheeling around “Baby Ure” as versus “Baby Denison”, I figured it was about time to get the ball rolling.  Micah—I am glad to finally be on the same page as you!  XOXO

How Rude!

cimg0564-2.jpg

(Sorry it is blurry - it was too close, and I don’t claim to be a photographer!)

Ever since I was a little girl, my family has told me my singing voice is horrible.  It didn’t hit home until I was rocking Scout and he was perfectly happy.  I started to sing to him, and about 1 second into the song, he would get this sour look on his face and start to cry.  I then would stop, and he instantly became happy once again.  Tristen and Calin were by us, and made me start singing over and over.  And like Pavlov’s dog….as soon as I would open my mouth in song, Scout’s tears started rolling. American Idol…I think NOT!

My First Mother’s Day!

mothers-day.jpg

I have been looking forward to “officially” celebrating Mother’s day for a long time!  This year I made it just in time…thanks to the little guy!

I woke up to breakfast in bed thanks to Calin and Micah!  We then went to Sacrament Meeting for the first time with Scout, and enjoyed a great Mother’s Day program my mom was in charge of.  It turned out great - with a special poem to me “the first time mom” by Skylar.  It was also fun to have everyone see our new addition!  Micah and I then went over to his parent’s house for a brunch that his dad and sister prepared.  It was delicious, and fun to hang out with the Denison’s.  Afterward, my family headed down to the Brockbank’s house in San Diego for a great afternoon which was topped off with Micah and Bryan cooking dinner.  Filet mignon, rosemary potatoes, fresh fruit salad, a green salad, fresh corn on the cob and pie for dessert!  My mom said it was the best meal she has had in years!  It really was fabulous, and they even cleaned up after dinner!  What a perfect day! BUT….the most perfect part of my day was when I woke up with Scout early in the morning before anyone was up.  I was looking at him and he looked back at me and gave me the biggest smile.  I am sure it was a little gas smile, but it was the perfect treat for me on my first mother’s day.

Spring Break with the Girls

Shakes at Johnny Rockets

Sunbathing Beauties

Calin and Skylar had spring break this last week, so one day we headed down to Main Beach in Laguna Beach.  We stopped at Johnny Rockets for shakes, and then set up a blanket and hung out for a couple of hours.  The weather was perfect, and the waves were the biggest they have been in years.  They were so big, there was not even one person in the water.  We had a great time!
