She is finally 12 -the official age to babysit- and I can’t believe it! It is amazing how fast time flies. We went to Ichibiri’s to celebrate and finished the night off with her favorite — strawberry cheesecake! Happy Birthday, and for your gift…I offer you a beautiful baby to babysit anytime I need you to! You are a pretty lucky girl.
Happy B-Day Calin!
Best Friends
Skylar and Scout have become fast best friends. The second she gets home from school -or anywhere for that matter- she immediately asks, “Where’s the baby?” Then she HAS to hold him no matter who else has him, if he is sleeping, if he is eating, etc. The few times she can’t hold him because others are, or he is sleeping….she just looks me straight in the eyes and says, “I thought about him ALL day. Can’t I just give him a hug?” I say a “small hug”, and next thing I know she is walking around with him, rocking him, singing to him, playing school with him, etc. I love that she adores him so much, and am glad to have a great little helper!
Happy 2nd Anniversary!
Micah and I are going on our 2nd year anniversary! So to surprise him, I planned a weekend away with the two us and the babe. We headed out to Lake Las Vegas and spent the weekend at the Ritz Carlton. We had an absolute blast, and everything was perfect. We basically relaxed all weekend long. Some of the highlights were — Lounging by the pool ordering virgin Pina Coladas and yummy food, Going to the local jazz concert on the lake where we got take-out from a restaurant and hung out on the grass hill, staying in our room with Scout and ordering a good movie, and finally having the Seth and Brett clan come out and meet up with us at the lagoon for a few fun hours!
It has been a while since Micah and I went away together, so it was extra fun. But the cherry on top was having a little baby with us who was perfect the entire time! I think this is what life is all about!
Micah had to get to work so he took a flight home Sunday night, and I am staying in Vegas with Seth and Brett for a few days for a little more relaxation. If you call 6 boys under the age of 7 relaxing. But so far we have had a good time that has involved a lot of swimming and sun!
Belly’s Fancy Belly!
Tristen wanted me to name this post “Mom #2″ but then Skylar and Nonnie would have some problems with that! Tristen ordered the cutest and most comfortable baby carrier for Scout. And to say that he LOVES it is the biggest understatement! He will sleep for 6 hours straight in it. I think it is similar to being in my tummy! Because he loves it so much, and I am not always with Tristen, I just ordered one myself. But the deal is that when she is with us, she gets him and I don’t get to use mine. Sounds good to me!
My Mom…the Encourager!
So I was chatting with my mom this morning and she handed me the People magazine turned to a page. Just by the gesture I could tell that she wanted me to read whatever it was on that page. Little did I know it would be titled, “How She Lost 100 LBS!” When I saw it I looked back at her and she said, “If she can do it….so can you!” Then she told me if I did…she would give me a shout out. Who knows what that means, so I asked for $1,000 dollars instead! She told me to dream on!
I reminded her that I had a baby 1 month ago. She reminded me that she had a 22 inch waist in college — “the size of your (Lindsey’s) current lower calf”. I then asked her what has happened to her waist since then?
Good old mom! **And for the record…I don’t have to lose 100. Just something between 1 and 100!**
He does adore Belly!
I am sure it is obvious, but I just realized why I shouldn’t leave my computer unattended. Read below to find out. But I am also going to clear something up. Tristen renamed herself “Bella” after our trip to Europe about six years ago. When she came home, she insisted on every niece and nephew to call her Bella, or she literally did not answer. She has done a pretty good job so far, but I always told her that my kids wouldn’t succumb to the ridiculous request. Instead…they would call her BellY! At first she wasn’t a fan, but when I started to get every one of our nieces and nephews to call her Belly….we negotiated. She said as long as I would stop telling all of ther other kids to call her Belly…..she would accept the name from my kids. So Belly it is…..feel free to call her it anytime!
Dance Dance Revolution!
If anyone has ever gone to the arcade’s, there is always some nerdy little guy hanging out on the Dance Dance Revolution machine. I am always baffled by how sweaty they get, and how addicted they seem as they insert quarter after quarter. Well, to my surprise…..Micah got us Dance Dance Revolution, and it is so fun! He has the total set up and it is projected on one of our walls.
So far, Skylar and Calin battle it out, Micah is getting pretty good (even though he does look like Sammy Davis Jr. doing a full tap routine with the big arms and all!) and Tristen and I had three battles the day before I had the baby! I totally think DDR (you can abbreviate when get good) is what started my contractions! Anyway, Tristen and I are going to DDR every night for an hour so I can lose my post baby weight!
Family Night
For family night last night, we took a little adventure to Paris, France. Micah took the reigns and taught Skylar (his little sidekick) how to make crepes. It was the cutest thing you have ever seen. Micah was there making the crepes in the large pan, and had brought out a mini pan for Skylar. She was SO excited! She helped make the batter (she even took the gigi’s out of the eggs (that is a Ure term for the umbilical cord)), then cooked the crepes and finally got them all fixed up and helped serve them.
Skylar thinks Micah is the greatest thing that ever happened to her! Even the other day, we were at Ciara Lindahl’s baby shower and they announced they were going to start a game, and Skylar’s response was, “Uuugghhh! I need my Micah if we are going to play a game!” They even have code names for eachother. (Calin too) Micah is Me-Lo, Calin is C-Lo, and Skylar is either Ski-Lo or “Skills to pay the Bills.”
When Micah and I were first married, we would have competitions and Calin and I would challenge Micah and Skylar. We had a song creating contest, a Christmas Tree decorating challenge (we both decorated one half of our tree) and a Halloween cake decorating contest. If I remember correctly, we are in the lead with 2 wins, but Micah remembers it that he and Skylar are in the lead with 2 wins. Anyway, I love that both Calin and Skylar adore Micah, but I do sometimes wonder if Micah likes them more than he likes me. And I don’t even question the fact that both girls would take Micah over me ANY day!
Spring Break with the Girls
Calin and Skylar had spring break this last week, so one day we headed down to Main Beach in Laguna Beach. We stopped at Johnny Rockets for shakes, and then set up a blanket and hung out for a couple of hours. The weather was perfect, and the waves were the biggest they have been in years. They were so big, there was not even one person in the water. We had a great time!
Easter Eggs!
The other night, we dyed easter eggs. We ended up having a contest to see who dyed the best one, and the entries were from Me, Micah, Calin, Skylar and Bryan Thacker. (He was over watching a movie with Micah and joined in on the fun.)
I had the winning egg with my “golden delight” glitter covered egg at first. Then everyone stole my method, which bumped me to third place. But in the end, Bryan Thacker took first place with his “Endless Summer” egg. It was pretty awesome, but I will take credit for giving him the idea. He dyed the egg, and it looked pretty cool, but certainly was not worth a spot in the competition. Then I casually walked by and mentioned that the colors looked like the background of the Endless Summer poster. Next thing you know, he free handed a surfer on the front and took first prize. Congrats B. Tacky! But the funniest part was when my mom judged the eggs and Tacky got first place, Micah took his last place egg and free handed a surfer on it. He thought it might get him a bump up in the ranks, but he stayed in dead last. You can’t really see it in the picture, but his is the blue egg on the right side AKA last place!
