Navy “joined the movement” today to be kind. When she filled in her pledge, I love that she is going to smile at everyone she sees — even if she doesn’t know them. I love it…LOVE IT! I love anyone and everyone who is teaching my kids to be kinder.
Kind Pledge
Pippi and Mom Date
Pippi and I went on a special date today. After breakfast at the Ramos House, Pippi and I headed to the harbor to scooter and jog. It amazes me that doing ordinary things — like eating and cruising the harbor — under the name “special date”, can make my kids feel like a million bucks. My day to day life is so busy, that I sometimes forget how important these dates are. But today reminded me…and I plan to do a whole lot more of these with my kids.
Coach Scout
Scout took about 30 minutes to teach Pippi some tennis today while the others were in lessons. Pippi took a bit of time to catch on, but then she started doing kind of good. Scout…you are a good and patient coach. Pippi…you are an attentive listener. Nice work you two.
Bubble Run
Pippi has been talking about the “Bubble Run” for the last month! She asks every single day if the bubble run is that day. So today was the day I finally told her YES!!!!
Here is Pippi — lining up to run her hardest!
Notice her nemesis three people in front of her — who also wore fur to the run.
Pippi ran her little heart out….and made sure to always be in front of Karina.
Her favorite part was running through the bubble gun her dad pointed at her each lap.
After…her dad and I went up to tell her how great she ran. And she did! She didn’t stop and walk one time for 20 minutes straight! She impressed both of us so much.
Afterward, she told me…”Mom…I totally beat everyone in my class. Even Karina!”
I laughed so hard. Karina is a sweet little girl who is new to Pippi’s class. But according to the teacher, both girls have strong personalities…and both girls think they are as cool as it gets. Well Pippi….welcome to life. And nice work and lapping Karina.
(Just kidding.)
Pancake Fail
Scout got up really early (5 am) to surprise the kids with pancakes before scriptures. I was so impressed, and the Navy and Dash were thrilled. He said he added some cinnamon and sugar to the mix to make them extra special!
Then I looked over at the griddle to see the biggest pancake fail ever! He didn’t butter the griddle, and the sugar stuck!
But surprisingly to me (not to confident Scout) the kids said they!
Nice work big brother! Now go clean that griddle!

(Update: There just wasn’t enough time to clean the griddle…so I inherited the job.)
Sunny Saturday
We haven’t had a sunny Saturday in months.
So today…we took full advantage.
We started off with walking/jogging block party, where the green about knocked you off your feet.
Dash frolicked in the hills from Niguel to Ocean Ranch. He picked wildflowers, and just ran freely through the hills like he was Huckleberry Finn.
-
Then we geared up and headed down to Doheny.
There is a ton of driftwood on the beach right now, so the kids made forts and had a really fun few hours getting beat down on by the sun’s rays.
Welcome back sun!
Please stay for a while!
Campout
I got this picture of these three knuckleheads on a Scout Campout. I am not sure why Scout isn’t oozing happiness. Maybe because he stayed up until 2:45am. Or maybe because he is posing under the rainbow of a Joshua tree. HA!
Compassion
Navy never skips a beat. If someone is sad, scared or upset, Navy springs into action. Tonight Pippi was a bit sad about something, and within moments, Navy had Pippi wrapped in her arms while letting Pippi pick a show to watch. Every single time someone is needed, Navy is there. She is going to make one amazing Mama and wife in her future…but in the meantime, she is making one amazing sister and daughter.
Yes, I have been the recipient of her compassion on many occasions.
Lucky all of us!
Lost Paper Airplane
Dash flew his airplane up too high, and it landed on our roof. Like our family motto says, he solved his own problem by climbing onto the roof. When he got told on, I went out and told him that he is NEVER to climb onto the roof. His answer back, “Why mom? I do it all the time!” Apparently I need to add, “unless it is dangerous” to our family motto.
Essay
Dash had an assignment to type an essay for his teacher.
I literally thought I was ready Scout’s essay, when it said, “When I have free time I like to count my money”! But apparently, it runs in our kid’s DNA.
And yes Dash…I want to be your friend. Because who doesn’t love a rich friend!
