New Year’s Eve ‘16

Tonight is our Polar Plunge, to ring in the New Year!
But first…the countdown.
img_2924-2016-12-31-at-21-49-23.jpg
Every 10 minutes before the clock struck (New York’s) midnight, the kids got to pop a confetti-filled balloon.
img_2923-2016-12-31-at-21-40-44.jpg
Pippi just sat and soaked everything in.
She was mesmerized.
img_2930-2016-12-31-at-22-16-22.jpg
And when the clock struck, it was confetti and glitter everywhere!
img_2936-2016-12-31-at-22-20-05.jpg
After hoots and hollers, the kids all ran to the freezing pool, and the brave ones took the plunge.
img_2939-2016-12-31-at-22-20-21.jpg
And the not-so-brave ones plunged into the hot tub.
Happy New Year!
May 2017 bring in some great blessings and fun times.

Chess

img_2921-2016-12-31-at-21-38-15.jpg
A good game of chess between these two buds, warmed my heart.
There is something about one of my kid’s using their brains that does the trick!

Beauty Bath

img_6585-2016-12-30-at-19-32-08.jpg
Just some Biore strips, bath foam and good shampoo/conditioner, to make three girls feel and look like a million bucks.

Navy Sews

img_6566-2016-12-29-at-12-45-20.jpg
Navy is trying her new sewing machine out.
I taught her how to thread it, work it, and now she is trying to sew straight lines with different stitches.
When I checked her work, I’d say she is pretty good for a 7 year old.
Next stop — her very own homemade PJ’s.

Old Fashioned Fun

img_6559-2016-12-28-at-15-48-40.jpg
It isn’t often that we get to go to the movies as a family, but when we do, it is always a hit.
And the kids especially love it when Dad goes, because he thinks it’s a crime to not have popcorn and drinks at a movie.

Christmas Hangover

img_6552-2016-12-27-at-12-55-15.jpg
After Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, The Day After (which had a stack of unopened presents), and Two Days After (the day we all worked like dogs to get the house cleaned up), this boy has a Christmas Hangover.
As do I.
Let’s all nap until the New Year!

Break Time

img_6553-2016-12-27-at-14-04-56.jpg
During Christmas clean up, the kids took a few breaks to try out a favorite present — the Bumpers!
So far, we haven’t had injuries.
But it’s only been two days!

Christmas 2016

Christmas is always great — but I’ll admit that this year it was a little different.  This year, Christmas fell on a Sunday, which is cool because you get to really celebrate the real-deal Christmas on the actual day.  But because of church, everything got pushed back a bit.  And on top of that, we usually celebrate the Denison’s Christmas on the 24th, which is awesome.  But this year it didn’t work out, so we went over to the Denisons for a few hours too.  That being said, it was different, but it was still awesome!
img_2831-2016-12-25-at-08-21-00.jpg
The kids woke up in their jammies, and were so excited to see the goods that Santa left.
img_2834-2016-12-25-at-08-27-34.jpg
They had just enough time to open their stockings before church.
Pippi was mesmerized this year — and opened everything she got out of her stocking right away.
Let’s just say that by church, she was on a major sugar high!
img_6534-2016-12-25-at-09-26-00.jpg
The kids sang a few songs during Sacrament meeting, and I had goosebumps from my nose to my toes.
Following church, we went to Grandma and Grandpa’s house, where the kids got perfect presents.  Mermaid blankets for the girls (they loved them), a race track for Dash, and a drone for Scout.  We spent a few hours hanging out, had some food, and the kids all played with their toys.
When we got home, the we all just sat back and relaxed, as everyone lazily opened presents.
It was a perfect pace after a long month.
img_2838-2016-12-25-at-13-45-35.jpg
Dash got “Red Thunder”!
He went straight out and rode it for 30 minutes — he was SO excited to finally have a big boy bike!
img_2847-2016-12-25-at-20-09-44.jpg
Scout got a ukulele, to support all of his singing lately.
We heard that thing being strummed off-tune, all afternoon!
I loved it.
img_6542-2016-12-25-at-12-47-27.jpg
Navy opened up a whole new wardrobe, and a sewing machine!!!
img_2888-2016-12-26-at-12-38-30.jpg
Pippi added more animals and friends to her stuffed family.
img_2846-2016-12-25-at-20-07-30.jpg
And all of the kids score on some new walkie-talkies, that kept them entertained for hours.
I love Christmas — it is literally my favorite day of the year.  And it isn’t the presents that make it for me.  It is the whole family together, laughing and oohing and aahing for everyone else.  I love giving treats to others, and I especially love watching my kids give gifts to others.  It is a lot of work, but worth it every time!
But the second everyone finally gets to bed, after the whole day — Operation Clean-Up Christmas gets going….and it might be the most under-the-radar-fun of the season!
A big thank you to Chloe and crew for making OCUC a reality!
And an even bigger thank you to those establishments around town, who keep empty dumpsters waiting for us.

Christmas Eve ‘16

I love Christmas Eve.  I love the hustle and bustle that precedes it, and I love the chaos that follows my spiritual message.  This year, I passed up the starfish story and the X-Mas story for “Footprints”.  It was a hit!  Afterwards, we did the family present exchange, which included everyone this year.
img_2765-2016-12-24-at-19-38-54.jpg

img_2773-2016-12-24-at-19-41-28.jpg
All of my kids scored rad presents, and loved giving their gifts even more than getting anything.
img_2789-2016-12-24-at-20-13-27.jpg
My dad had me, and wrapped in his classic way!
img_2794-2016-12-24-at-20-42-46.jpg
So I returned the favor, because I had him!
His season tickets to BYU volleyball games were a nice surprise — out of this UPS envelope they came in!
My favorite part of the night, was when I got to give the PJ’s to the family.
I was so excited about them.
img_2811-2016-12-24-at-21-06-37.jpg
I figured that since my kids almost always end up in one of Daddy’s T-shirts, why not create a family T shirt for their PJ’s.
img_2814-2016-12-24-at-21-06-59.jpg
So I included camping, fishing, CTRing, saving, Chinese, traveling, water sports, piano, shells, hammocking, a picture of each of us doing something we love, a home with Nonnie’s big heart, and even a little baby’s footprint for our little Skip-Doc.
Sweet Dreams…
img_6527-2016-12-24-at-22-00-35.jpg
Then the boys headed for milkshakes, and the girls and I created this masterpiece.
Santa was really sneaky, but luckily we snapped a photo of him to show the kids in the morning.
img_6523-2016-12-24-at-21-45-44.jpg
This year, we named the tree appropriately.
img_2820-2016-12-24-at-23-10-18.jpg
And Megan did not disappoint with the stocking stuffers.  When she saw our stockings, she almost keeled over at how huge they were.  I told her she should just stuff the whole bottom with paper, but she assured me that she had plenty to fill them.  And did you notice….there is now a stocking for Blush!
Meegs — you are insane!

Two Greats

img_6515-2016-12-23-at-12-51-17.jpg
What a scene - one of the mini greats sits in one of the greatest great’s lap.
Lucky her.
